This was the second hiking trail I found in Farmingivlle. This is a trail that you can hike on but I think it's meant more for mountain biking. I didn't have a whole day to complete the ten miles on the whole trail by hiking, I ended up doing about two miles before I found my way back. This trail was beautiful, but I generally give most trails about 5 stars. I love to get lost in the woods and just forget I'm on Long Island and this trail definitely helped me do that. From a hiking perspective I'd say try to get here as early as possible before mountain bikers start coming to use it. When I was on it I didn't see any mountain bikers.

I met the trail master Carey( hope I didn't butcher his name) during my ride and a few other bikers. He led us up the black diamond trail 1000 ft elevation! Unfortunately I couldn't keep up but I plan to conquer it! Back to the blue trail for me and whew! My bow flex stations bike has nothing on Glacier! No pics cause I was to exhausted to worry about a phone! Lol next time. Carey also does gatherings with bbq's and Rockefeller oysters in the parking lot and night rides there. It's well lit at night. I'll definitely be back there more often. The mountain bike community is just a great community of people who always look out for each other.

I completed 4 miles on the blue trail which is much easier than the black diamond trail. But it was a challenge and I had to take some breaks. Still working on that cardio! Lots of vines, roots, and rocks here. On my GPS trail maps, it says this trail has an elevation of 1000ft. Probably true because going downhill was speedy, loopy, and fun. Make sure you have your helmet, safety first! Overton is quite popular and it's also close to the Glacier trail, so do both if you can. Go and enjoy!!

Everything will look the same and there's a lot twists and turns. It has happened to me and I'm pretty well versed in hiking and trails. My swissy loves it here. He's not really a runner, so trails and lots of stuff to sniff and check out are his thing. It's pretty busy in the on season and relatively desolate in the off season, but it's nice either way. If you don't mind bundling up, doing some off season walking and hiking might be for you. It's very beautiful and extremely quiet, almost too quiet. I have always felt safe here. As a lady, it can be off putting to be in a large place alone but I always see rangers here and there even if other people aren't around. Many people bring their dogs to run and hike- most are good but as with any public place there are always some bad eggs. I would deff check this one out if you haven't. I often find that we stop and just watch nature. It's a really great way to get out and do something that feels different each time you go. The park trails need maintenance as there are overgrown trees, and laid over trees across paths. Some of the trail access have planks of wood for soft ground that is rotting away. Trails are not marked and website map is difficult to read. Some of the docks on the water are inaccessible from shore.

There are no bike shops on the North Fork of Long Island. The closest shop (not including Shelter…read moreIsland and the South Fork which includes round trip ferries, and/ or massive traffic) is in Rocky Point. That is a one hour drive - one way! My wife's bike had two flat tires so I needed to bring her bike to a shop. I just didn't have any new inner tubes and I don't believe in patching. So off to Rock Point we went. Traffic was minimal. The shop is a real bike shop not like Target or Walmart. The place is stocked with whatever a biker needs. Whether that need is an energy bar or a new electric bike... RPC has it. They offered to fix the flats and have the bike back to me within an hour. I accepted with pleasure...bike repair is hard for me and I am a bit lazy. Less than thirty minutes later we were out the door with nice hard tires. In fact, my wife is off on a bike ride right now. RPC was fast, professional, and friendly! They were even sympathetic to the fact all the bike shops on the North Fork have closed up and people far out east have to travel an hour to get their bike fixed. Thank you!

I walked in and met John. he sold me the tires, a new seat and a new cycle tire pump. It was all done in about 40 minutes!! I looked around, shared some stories with John and the staff. There is a 2 mile hiking trail and a little house ran by the Farmingville Historical Society. We brought a blanket and some snacks for a quick bite before heading back home.

And I mean, ALL. THE. NOISE. Usually in parks like this, you'll hear birds chirping and singing in the trees everywhere. But this place was absolutely dead silent. You'd stop and strain to hear any sign of life, but there was no noise at all. It was quite disappointing and frankly a little creepy. We were hoping to see deer, turkey and do some birding, but saw no wildlife whatsoever. Just scrub pines as far as the eye could see. Trails are well marked, there were a few garbage cans scattered along the trails which I thought was a nice touch, and there was a port-a-potty at the entrance. Not sure if it was open/useable though due to covid. There are three trails; we chose the shortest and I was glad we did. Off to another park.

Always a good sign. Jonathan was happy to answer any question I had while he worked on the bike. Took a bit longer than I'd expected, but what do I know. I'm very happy with the results. My bike is looking good and running great. And best of all, their prices are great. Can't really go wrong with these guys if you can't bring your bike to an LBS.

Riders Beware! My…read more10 yr old daughter was taking riding lessons here for almost 6 months until her trainer decided to move on from this barn to further her career on a different path. Another trainer who was not training my daughter originally but, who is a trainer & manager of the IEA team @ IHS was very unprofessional towards us. She claims she over sees everything; teaches 40 kids and gives 80 lessons a week there. We were going to weekly lessons there for almost 6 months but, on tues 8/15/23 no scheduled trainer in the book to teach my daughter. This trainer who runs things over there-"so she says"..did not approach, call or contact us to even apologize to explain the mishap and she was at the barn that day too. Another trainer nearby who happen to over hear the lack of professionalism going on offered to step in and help train her. My daughter got a 15 minute lesson instead of her 30 minute lesson that we usually get which we were charged $65.00 for that day. NM was not in the indoor arena for my daughters entire lesson which I can show/prove on video. NM walked into the arena the last 3 minutes of the lesson. My daughter was very upset during and after the lesson. We were very disappointed & dissatisfied with how we were treated and called liars that day since we've been a customer/rider for almost 6 months now. I called the barn manager- left message and got no response. So I called again and I finally got in touch with the barn manager. I explained the entire situation in detail and asked for a make up lesson. Instead of showing good customer service & compassion towards what happened I got told the financial difficulties going on within the barn. I also was advised that NM is "not a manager" there she is just a "trainer" that teaches lessons for the IEA team only. The Barn manager told me I would get a call back after talking to NM but, I never did! Instead once again I was shown unprofessionalism & unaccountability text messages from trainer NM. I knew then we would stop going to this barn for anything & everything but, my daughter had 2 lessons remaining on her package that I knew they would definitely not refund us for. I had enough of being mistreated by this place and watching my daughter get upset over this incident. I asked again on 9/4/23 for a make up lesson for that day and was denied it again. Then on 9/11/23 I explained to a another staff trainer very nicely why we would not be returning for lessons anymore. NM sends me another rude & arrogant text msg implying we are liars and we were not wanted as riders there! Smh-This was of course after I resigned my daughters lessons from IHS to a different trainer. People please be aware of this place and this inexperienced & immature horse trainer NM. She shows no good qualities of customer service & professionalism! I hope she treats the horses better then she treats her students & parents. Will be filing complaints against IHS with the BBB & Business Consumer Alliance Association. Giddy up riders....Beware and don't go here!
