We recently were married at the Meadows Event Center. The space is absolutely stunning! However,…read moreour experience in the preceding year had its ups and downs. The space is truly beautiful and the ability to use both levels indoors for the reception as well as the outdoor space for the ceremony allowed us significant variety with the venue giving us the ability to have our guests be entertained while also having so many fantastic spaces to really strut our decor. As expected, it also provided innumerable photo opportunities. Keeping guests shuffling from place to place was great for alleviating the oh so common uncertainty of where to be/what to do at weddings, while allowing for the progression of events throughout the evening. The dance floor upstairs is amazing for entertaining and allows for guests to maximally view the first dance/parent-child dance (as well as guests dancing themselves!). The outdoor space needed little decoration due to the well-cultivated plant life and the seats outside the gazebo comfortably provided seating for everyone. Our day-of experience was wonderful! For the day-of festivities, Simeon (previously site manager and now owner) was very responsive, helpful, and engaging - often rushing to see to any need we had and trying to anticipate our needs as well. The only challenging parts of our experience were related to communication (or lack thereof) with Simeon. While initially he was congenial, responsive and very helpful, the intervening months between booking and our big day was very frustrating at times. One of the major issues was lack of communication. While running a venue is no doubt hard work and time consuming, so often we did not receive any response to vital questions about the space, the amenities, and supplies available for up to a month at a time. The lack of response became so dire we had to reach out through our caterer to try and get a response to some very basic questions. There was also another difficulty that arose that made us feel very uncomfortable. When discussing our wedding with Simeon, we mentioned we were having a Jewish-gay ceremony. Simeon came to us later and asked if his house photographer could take some images of our wedding for promotional materials. We accepted this, but asked that we have access to those images as well. Simeon responded implying that we had misunderstood and that he wanted access to our photographers images for his use (despite clear communication via e-mail). We declined this. He responded that he would just take images himself with his cell phone for his own use. This felt very invasive and made us feel as though our ceremony was a marketing ploy for him which felt rather offensive and disrespectful. This was never truly rectified and we do not know if he was surreptitiously taking images of our ceremony. Simeon's behavior throughout the rest of the day-of was very helpful and attentive. The Meadows Event Center is beautiful and offers so many wonderful photo and entertaining opportunities but we would suggest being direct and very clear with all requests and doing so in writing. And make sure that all of your questions are answered at booking (or before if possible).

I have a unique perspective as I have attended for the las t2 years as a guest and this year as a staff member working with them. Linda and her husband who are the owners are some of the kindest most generous people to work. They are incredibly flexible and good hearted. The venue is beautiful. The first time we went I was a little thrown off because it's not a "beautiful" area in the middle of all the buildings. Yet, somehow, there in the middle of the concrete jungle not far from the fed center, they have created this spectacular escape that makes you feel far from it all. I don't know if the spectacular, almost European felling stone interior, the stunning chandeliers and fireplace or the little pond with the water fountain, but it makes you feel as if you are far from the rest of the world. The staff is spectacular, Ashley and Kathryn helped us develop our signature drink and mixed away like Tom Cruise in cocktail as I dipped away on about 7 different drinks that they created from my " we'd like to do something maybe like a Manhattan with apple spice" description of what we wanted. They brought us pans and mirrors that we could sue for elevation for our silent auction, they had chalk markers for signs. As they started putting the table cloths that we had picked initially and I abruptly stopped them and they upped out another option and checked to assure that we had enough for tables. Wow, they bent over backwards and really had a "we are here for you" attitude. Also, THE FOOD!! I had a fried chicken with polenta and spiced apples, we also had a pork chop as an option and a butternut squash vegetarian option YUMMY! I only ate half, and then kept trying to shove it down, because it was so good! Shout out to Tabitha who was also there to help with any needs that aired and I think it was Amanda, the sous chef that helped the day of setup. Also, one of the bar tenders whose name I didn't catch rocked it- our second bar wasn't set up, so I asked him and he got to work "full bar or wine and beer" within 30 seconds he was moving tables and bottles an probably 4 minutes later, they were set up!! That's how it's done my friends!! Thank you to the staff for making our event one for the Bridge of Hope Greater Denver record books! We couldn't have pulled it off without their generosity and cheer, and undeniable desire to serve!!

The rooms are very ordinary, not as they appear when you are booking. It's also in a great location--very close to the University of Colorado Boulder and walkable to a lot of shops and restaurants. The lobby is definitely the highlight--absolutely beautiful with intricate details, a vintage glass ceiling, and a grand, elegant feel that gives you a sense of the building's history. Our room was clean, and the bathroom was also well-maintained. The surrounding area felt safe, which we appreciated. That said, the room itself was a bit dark, which seems pretty typical for many American hotels. The biggest downside for us was the required valet parking. It meant we never really had easy access to our car unless we wanted to go through the hassle of requesting it every time. Because of that, we ended up just using Uber the whole stay. Personally, I would much rather just pay to park and have direct access to my own vehicle. To be fair, the valet staff were always very friendly and welcoming whenever we came and went. We also ran into some minor inconveniences--there didn't seem to be enough robes, towels, or washcloths available during our stay. Overall, it was fine for a short visit. The lobby is stunning and the location is excellent, but the valet situation alone would make me choose somewhere else next time.

In planning and executing a wedding, we assumed that some things may not go as expected. This is…read moreinevitable. My husband and I are giving this five-star review not because our experience with Church Ranch Event Center was without complication, but rather because their staff handled a challenging situation concerning our wedding with grace, compassion, understanding, and follow-through. My husband and I are a same sex couple, that were seeking a rustic-chic event space and Church Ranch's space was absolutely perfect. The outdoor area was a beautiful and unique space for our fall wedding, of 100 guests. After we paid the initial deposit to Church Ranch, we received their planning packet and were surprised that all of the language in the packet was customized for an opposite sex wedding, without options to make selections that would apply for a same-sex couples (the language referenced "brides", "maid of honor," "bridesmaids", and traditions that would not apply or be relevant to same-sex couples). This concerned us and we edited the form, as much as we could, to reflect our intentions for a same-sex wedding with persons of different genders in both wedding parties. We then went to our first wedding planning session and they had chairs setup for us, with a wrapped "bride" ribbon on one, and "groom" on the other. On the day of the rehearsal, the event planner came in and asked for the "bridal party" to stand on one side of the room. I interrupted her, stating that there was no bride and that there were two grooms. After this third incident, we called Church Ranch, less than 24 hours before our wedding was to occur, and spoke with Lillian about our concerns. Lillian handled this difficult conversation with grace, understanding, and regret for our experience. She was not defensive for one moment and took immediate responsibility, stating that Church Ranch should and would do more training with event staff on handling same-sex weddings. That night, she contacted all of the people who would be helping at our wedding to remind them of our same-sex wedding the next day and to discuss the appropriate language to use/steps to take to ensure that the event was executed appropriately. She also indicated that Church Ranch had changed their planning forms to be inclusive for same-sex weddings, based on some comments that we previously included on our wedding planning form. The next day, on the day of our wedding, the event planner apologized to me, in person, for the mishap during the rehearsal. Her apology was genuine and she was committed to ensuring that we had the memorable, magical, and special day that we had been planning. The event planner was very understanding, expressed remorse, was not defensive, and did everything in her power to make our special day what we had hoped for. Ultimately, on the day of our wedding, everything was executed perfectly. The venue was beautiful, our guests were so impressed, and we felt that Church Ranch created an event that honored our love and commitment, as a same-sex male couple. We all make mistakes. Including Church Ranch. Their willingness to recognize when they make a mistake, not be defensive, and take actual steps to make the situation right, is uniquely admirable. It is refreshing to see a buisness, like Church Ranch, listening to feedback, being open to how weddings are evolving, and being willing to make changes in their operations to make sure that their customers have an amazing experience on their special day.

The xc skiing at Devil's Thumb has always been a favorite for us, as far back as the 70's when it was just a rustic ski trail system with a small nordic supply shop. In recent years it became a full fledged resort with lodging where we have often stayed. We have also stayed in Winter Park, about 15 minutes away and driven over to ski. But we have now found our new favorite option. This is such a lovely place, both the facility and the charming staff. It is a better price value for us than some of the other options in the area, yet more than a simple motel in town. You know, like Goldilocks, "just right." I especially want to note that the (included) breakfast that host John cooks for the guests was wonderful, some sweet, some savory, warm, homemade, natural and ample for the start of even an hearty ski day. They take note in advance of special food needs and serve with a choice of time options. The log style of the building is rustic but nicely furnished. The rooms are well designed and furnished with high quality linens and have lots of storage as some guests stay for weeks. The views from each room are very pretty, some to the Continental Divide, some to the woodland. Every single staff member was friendly and helpful. The central lounge area was large, comfortable, attractive and clean and with a central fireplace. There are also some other smaller gathering areas to sit and talk or read if you wish to be outside your room. And there are also some family and dog friendly cabins on site if you want more than a bedroom. Personally, the rooms in the main inn are just right for my needs. We will absolutely be back. It is convenient to local xc skiing and also just a 15 minute drive past the Winter Park Resort and not far at all from several quality dinner options. We met other guests using the lodging for all of these reasons.
