What do Barry Bonds, the Houston Astros, and Life Church all have in common? They should each have…read morean asterisk after their name. We all know about Bonds and the Astros, but why Life Church? An asterisk is used to reference omission. Barry Bonds hit all those home runs but omitted the fact that he did it under the influence of steroids. Life Church deserves such an asterisk. Their website's homepage states: "Life Church is a different type of church. Since its beginning, the church's approach has always been to offer a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere where people can come as they are, regardless of their background, and experience a relationship with Jesus Christ." Nothing could be further from the truth. Dig a bit deeper and the church website states its values as "All people matter under God, so they matter to us", "Anyone can come as they are", "God changes us to be like Jesus", "God created us for community", and "God calls every one of us to be a minister and missionary in every moment". Again, insert asterisk here. My family recently moved to Texas from Tennessee where I have been a lifelong member of a southern Baptist church. When we arrived in Liberty Hill, we wanted to find a church in which we could thrive as a family, where our kids could participate in youth group, where we could get involved in community outreach and missions and thrive as Christians. On the recommendation of neighbors, we attended our first Life Church service in late 2021 and were impressed with the welcome we received and the way they were organized around checking our children in and out of the kids' church. We enjoyed the service, and the kids loved their program, and for the first time ever, told us they'd like to go back to church. After months of attendance, involvement, meeting wonderful people, making donations, kids attending camp, and a particular sermon by the lead pastor about the importance of being a member of a church, Life Church, or another, we made it official and signed up for their membership class and took advantage of their opportunity to join and get more involved. Following an email from the individual in charge of the elementary program at the church welcoming me to the team as a volunteer and outlining the process of volunteering for the youth ministries, I received a subsequent email from the lead pastor stating we should "probably address the elephant in the room". We welcomed the lead pastor to our home for the conversation, which started with his asking about our journey in Christ. We both told our stories and gave details of our relationships with God, the church, and even our family. As the conversation continued, he kept saying this is such a difficult situation we're in. We still weren't clear what situation he was talking about. So, I finally just put it out there on the table. "Are you here today to talk about the fact we're a same sex couple? A couple that has been together for twenty years? A couple that loves the Lord, are born again Christians and want to worship and praise the Lord just like anyone else?" He said yes. How do you think Jesus felt looking down on that moment? I've never felt so judged, and by a minister, to make it even worse. The fact that he came into our home, drank our coffee, asked engaging questions, and then told us we are unworthy is just unacceptable. Life Church managed to do more damage to the faith of this family than it will ever realize or admit. Our kids have been rocked by this and they don't understand, since all they heard from the church for 8 months was that everyone is welcome, and God loves all. Now, kids that were so close in their relationship with Jesus are questioning everything. But we will continue to serve the Lord and won't let our relationship with God be deterred by the opinion of Life Church*.

The vision is clear and biblically aligned with the Great Commission. It is written everywhere, spoken about consistently, and lives in the hearts of the people. The pastor has built an incredible team of staff and volunteers who carry the mission forward in a way that is not dependent upon him. The name of Jesus is magnified and there is excellence in everything that is done no matter how big or small. The presence of the Holy Spirit is evident and powerful every service. If you are looking for a church home, do not skip over City Reach without carving out time for a visit.

Thankfully, a good friend of ours recommended City Reach; and after checking out the church over a couple of Sundays, we made our choice. We enjoyed and continue to be delighted by the friendliness of the church member community here. The parking team does a wonderful job each Sunday to make sure we find a parking spot, and they have a shuttle that brings us to the entrance. Drip coffee and hot tea are provided if you'd like to enjoy a hot beverage while worshipping and listening to the sermon. The worship teams are truly in the spirit and sing in the name of Jesus. The worship sets are powerful and we can feel the Holy Spirit moving within us, and we see how others around us have been impacted as well. The pastor is unapologetic in preaching what is written in the Bible. He doesn't add fluff but stays true to the Word. His expository style is appreciated as he highlights the main ideas while calling out key points. They also have a children's program, from infants through high school. Their new campus is beautiful and has several parking lots to choose from. There is also overflow parking available with a shuttle provided. City Reach Church isn't charismatic nor is it traditional (we've been to both kinds in the past), it's actually fun and we look forward to going each Sunday! The style here is unique, though it's not necessarily for everyone. If you're curious to learn what a relationship with Jesus looks like, are new in your walk with Jesus, or if you're looking for a new church home, we highly recommend giving City Reach a try!

We heard about the church while we're living in Virginia and about the book 'No perfect people…read moreallowed" so when we moved to Texas we visited. We wanted to get more involved so we went a small group in Cedar Park for a while. I also worked with a young fellow who attended the church. Then we interacted with members on Facebook . The common thread is that they HATE. Not brown people , not poor people but Republicans. I don't remember any of them calling attention to Jesus . No room for anyone of different viewpoints. It's an "us" versus "them" hotbed. . So much for "no perfect people ... emphasis on the word ALLOWED since they no doubt run everyone else off. One of their "members" Nancy even said on FB that NO Christian SHOULD honor Charlie Kirk. I'm sure it's a wonderful place if you believe there should be only one political party in the US. .... Something about the culture there since it's the common denominator , Right ? If it's a root level ground swell of members so be it ... but if it's a top down thing : James 3:1-12 Amplified Bible (AMP) Not many [of you] should become teachers [serving in an official teaching capacity], my brothers and sisters, for you know that we [who are teachers] will be judged by a higher standard [because we have assumed greater accountability and more condemnation if we teach incorrectly].

People all over sitting on the floor in the lobby. We've known about rain for weeks so this church should have prepared for it. I think the most disappointing thing is they didn't have the volume up in the lobby so you can hear the seminar inside. Even the bathroom speakers were on low. Inside the chairs were too close together (although very comfortable)... I'd prefer stadium seating with a cup holder. I personally didn't care for the evangelical style of this conference. I won't be attending this anymore.

I agree with Lindsey's assessment. I'm simply giving my personal account/experience in this review…read more Take it or leave it. I've visited Celebration multiple times (to be open-minded and not base it upon one visit). Each time was more unsettling. The obsession these followers have specifically for Joe is crazy. They treat him like he's a celebrity. It's nearly occultic, in my opinion. I am not someone who is unlearned or ignorant to various ministries/worship styles. I've seen it first hand, having attended Steve Munsey's "church" back in Indiana. Steve got up there and put on a show every Sunday. It was theater, entertaining, and "magical". He had as much cosmetic surgery done (and his wife) as Joan Rivers. He would arrive in a limo, with his own personal security team, all dressed in black suits and ties with earpieces and dark sunglasses (in a dark auditorium haha). He lived in a mansion with a security team around the parameters. The ministry team would force you to speak in tongues directly after getting baptized, or had security standing at the doors in the room so you couldn't leave until you showed evidence of speaking in tongues to the ministry staff. Joel Osteen would frequently visit and was a good friend of Steve's. Like the others mentioned above, this church models the same makeup (although not to the extreme as Munsey's "church"). It's all about prosperity gospel, receiving and being "blessed" in all ways, manifesting personal wealth, and giving generously to the "church" (a.k.a. the Pastoral team) financially. It's not about truly serving, each other or the community. It's not about truly connecting with others. I have encountered MANY people who have said (when asked what church they attend): "Oh, I attend Celebration Church, it's the best". Yet, also say when I ask follow up questions: "Oh..no, I'm not involved in any small or fellowship group". "No, I don't really have time to serve. I just like the worship style." "No, they don't have a special needs ministry". "I've been attending for years and I don't feel connected or seen." "Oh, I mean I only attend online and watch the services while doing other things". I've dated a few individuals (and even married one) who claimed to be involved at Celebration only to find out 1) involved meant "I watch online every now and then", or 2) they were actively in the occult (astrology, divination, sorcery, etc.), and/or 3) they didn't even pray to Jesus, or use His name. They were praying to (a) God alright, but their God was money, prosperity, getting everything and anything they wanted (i.e. taking from others or expecting handouts) and it was never stamped with the ONLY seal that gets our requests to God directly - "in Jesus' name!" Celebration is very similar to the other mega churches that preach prosperity and wealth, and use guilt and shame to manipulate you to "give" to their cause. It's not biblical folks. It's the antithesis of what Jesus came to fulfill.
