    I have been a customer of Village Bank for over 40 years. I have had multiple accounts with them…read moreincluding multiple Mortgages that we never paid late and paid off . The last mortgage Village Bank held for us was paid off this past July. Up to now I would recommend them as the best bank around till the past couple of days. As of right at this moment as I write this review I would not recommend them to my worst enemy. My husband and I grew up in Newton, lived in Newton, and were treated as valued customers. My husband works for the City of Newton and we have remained loyal customers to them. Village Bank was and is the only Bank we recommend to our family and friends till now unless they redeem themselves fast. Their reasoning and treatment is in acceptable. I began an on line application for a home equity loan and the information, treatment and contact with their loan department since I started the application has left me dumbfounded and scratching my head. It all started with Joan who called me with regards to my on line application who relayed the very disturbing information that they will not consider processing my loan. She sought permission and approval to process my simple loan from the vise president and I believe it was Denise who ultimately decided against processing my loan request. The reason why is outrageous. I was legitimately outraged, mad, upset and discriminated against. What I learned from her was horrifying. Village Bank has held loans from us in the past and it didn't make sense to us why they wouldn't even consider our application. I asked Joan to have Denise, another VP or President to call me to explain their reasoning of not processing my loan further and to attempt to get them to reconsider. I called today and I left a message with Denise who I was told was in a meeting and that she would call me by the end of the Day and that didn't happen. All I wanted was to be treated like a valued customer as their message says while you wait on hold. At 2pm today I called back after not hearing from Denise and spoke to a great guy Ed today who will hopefully get me in contact with Joe to resolve the awful treatment I have received thus far. Denise had left for the day! So not only was I not treated like a valued customer I was also not worthy of a call back. Time will tell if Village Bank will stand by their so called valued words and customers. Let's see if redeem themselves. Sincerely from a once valued customer!

Also they are on the Sum network so if you need to get money out of an atm you need to find a sum network atm otherwise you will be charged a few bucks for fees.

    Consistently terrible customer service. From the tellers to the branch manager. They are…read moreunprofessional, at times condescending, and lack even the most basic customer service skills. Of course this does not apply to every teller but certainly the majority of them. They recently made a MAJOR error with one of my accounts and not only the branch manager, refuse to address it, but he also refused to provide me the contact information for the regional manager while I was there so that I could seek a resolution. Additionally, he gave me unsolicited legal advice about the error they had made. Advice he was incorrect about, and certainly unqualified to provide. What I don't understand is how one branch can be so inept yet another 2 miles away in Newton Center is professional and competent.

In exchange, I would receive a $300 bonus payment, if I also moved my direct deposit there. So, I thought, why not??? Very bad move. I stupidly assumed that this payment would be made in a timely manner. But after 90 days...NOTHING. After numerous visits to the bank and meeting with their very clueless and not helpful staff, I had to write a letter to the smiley Bank Manager with threats of reporting her to the Banking Commission and MA Attorney General. Hmmmm, amazingly, the same day the $300 appeared in my account the same day. DON'T BELIEVE CITIZEN'S TOUCHY FEELY ADVERTISING. They are a big, uncaring bank, just like all the others....

When it was my turn, the employee assisting me, Ejvis, initially said she would help me. She asked for my ID, and after I provided it, she looked at me in a way that made me feel uncomfortable and then asked for my passport. I informed her that I did not have a passport with me. She then said I would need both my passport and my Social Security number. After having me wait about 15 minutes while she was speaking with a colleague about taking a break, she returned and told me that I would need to make an appointment instead. This was frustrating, especially because I had already been told by customer service that an appointment was not necessary. This is also not the first time I have had a negative interaction with Ejvis. I have also noticed her treating other clients poorly. During this interaction, she appeared uninterested in helping and did not seem to care about the issue I was trying to resolve

Not only are they open till 7pm every day of the week but they also are open all of Saturday and from 11:00-3:00pm on Sunday. One thing to make sure you're aware of is the address for This bank is incorrectly labeled. According to the Citizens Bank website & Yelp this bank is located on Watertown Street in Watertown when it's really on Watertown Street in NEWTON NOT WATERTOWN. The staff is great, very friendly and helpful. They are always willing to answer your question and go that extra mile.

I've never had a issue with the staff when Champa was the manager. My most recent experience unfortunately was not one that I was use to. One this particular visit, the branch manager decided she was going to let me know that she was doing me a favor by taking my deposit that was not the excite amount. I was totally shocked and thrown off by her comment. I reminded her that this was a bank, and indeed bank give change. She then proceeded to tell me that she would no longer accept our deposit if it not the excite amount. I asked to see the policy in writing, she couldn't provide it. I then explained to her that this was the closes bank to use in walking distance which is a 30 minute walk just to get there. She was not nice. I called citizens corporate to give my feed back, now I'm letting my community know as well. If you choose to bank with them, make sure you have the correct amount of patients. I literally driver further just not to deal with them. Sorry not Sorry
