Pizza! Those of you who know me are aware of my relationship with pizza. It's usually a slightly dirty affair involving late night phone calls, code words, a hurried exchange of crumpled bills, and a shameful orgy of the gluttony in bed. Once it a while, I'll bare all and go for broke in public, but the rewards have to be very very good. After all, it's surprisingly how many people react with shock, surprise, and a tinge of disgust when a "foodie" orders pizza. It makes me feel a bit ashamed.
Anyways, where was I? Ah yes, pizza, the other carb loaded delight in my life. I made it out to Rocket (really just across the street) for a work lunch. After browsing the menu, I figured my slightly hungover self (don't tell my boss!) could use a pizza pick me up and there was a black pudding and garlic prawn offering. Needless to say, I was intrigued. I mean I do enjoy some black pudding, and I love me some garlic prawns, but together? That just doesn't seem to fit in my head but hey it's got green chillies so how bad can that be?
I've got to admit, I'm still not sure how I feel about that combo. The pizza base was good with the right amount of crisp crunch and soft chewiness. The cheese tasted rich and full although a bit greasy. The garlic prawns could have done with more garlic but were well cooked and the black pudding was fantastic. The only problem? It was a combination of tastes that I liked but they didn't complement each other. There was also only chilli oil which didn't help the oiliness factor at all.
As far as the place, Rocket is a nice one for a relatively quick sit down meal. The food came out in under 15 minutes. However, be warned the main room is quite loud and hard to talk to more than the two closet people to you. No chance at all at hearing a conversation across the table. The waitstaff are very friendly and helpful and the portions are huge so still overall a win. read more
