Technically, the Thousand Islands Bridge doesn't join Canada and the United States. It goes over…read morethe Saint Lawrence River here and joins North New York with Wellesley Island. It's the USA on both sides and the border isn't for another five miles. The fencing and signage on the southern end is to prevent folks from dodging the toll that is currently USD $3.75 / CAD $4.75. There are five bridges which transition you from the American mainland to Wellesley Island to Hill Island (the actual crossing) to Constance Island to Georgina Island to the Canadian mainland. The bridge was built in 1937 with additions made in 1959. It carries two lanes in each direction with a pedestrian sidewalk. I did not cross the bridge today as I've already done my Canadian visit, crossing the other day at the Peace Bridge in Buffalo. But I did take the time to view the clever structure from the US side. Went on a tour of Boldt Castle/Heart Island this past weekend and it was easily the most beautiful…read morearchitecture I've seen with my own eyes. The entire island is perfectly maintained with vibrant flowers and gardens that looked immaculate even in late September. There is so much to see and its much bigger than it looks. There is so much attention to detail you can still miss things even after walking around for hours. I saw a couple get married while I was there and I can't even imagine how stunning those photos will turn out! A lot of people have already mentioned the beautiful and tragic history of this castles creation. I love that you can still go tp the upper floors of the castle that are not yet renovated and see the graffiti and signs of decay. The layout of the castle really tells a story and the classical music played in the background really adds to the immersion. There are also audio tours available. So much love was put into the original vision and execution of this project as well as the restoration. There are even heats all over the island. 10/10 would recommend spending a few hours here if you're ever visiting the area.

My first trip to the 1000 islands would not be complete without a tour of this place!…read more George C Boldt, millionaire and proprietor of the world famous Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City, set out to build a full size rhineland castle in Alexandria Bay, on picturesque Heart Island. The grandiose structure was to be a display of his love for his wife, Louise. Hearts are all over this island, it became a game to fu d as many as you could. The grounds are spectacular, well maintained with flowers and bushes everywhere. We started our tour at the children's playhouse and tower. Loved seeing where the bowling alley used to be. The main castle has several floors, from a tunnel with an indoor pool to suites, dining and kitchens. All set up to resemble what they looked like back on the day. I loved the balconies off some of the bedrooms. The tunnel takes you to the powerhouse. Very interesting to read and see the photos of the past. Absolutely stunning place to visit. They seem to be doing some work keeping up with renovations.

BEAUTIFUL LIGHTHOUSE IN CAPE VINCENT, NY…read more====================================== My husband and I drove out to Tibbetts Point Lighthouse on Friday, November 15, 2024 while my son was at work. We should have checked the hours a bit better because Google said it was open, but it was closed for the season. It was still pretty from the outside, but very cold with the wind. This lighthouse is located at the end of the Great Lakes on Lake Ontario and the beginning of the St. Lawrence River. The property consists of three acres of land that was donated by Captain John Tibbetts in the early 1820's. In 1985 the new tower was built and is still in operation today. It has the only Fresnel lens still in operation on Lake Ontario. It can be seen from sixteen miles away. A foghorn was added and put into service in 1896. Down below there is a telescope that visitors can use. Points of interest are marked on the railing. If you are visiting the North Country I highly recommend a visit to Tibbetts Point Lighthouse.

Interesting place it's been here for years and was and always a treat to stop and get some good…read moreviews of the thousand Islands area. Elevator ride to the top was pleasant and very fast. I remember this place is a kid I enjoyed it done and I enjoy it now some 50 years later. John on the observation deck very helpful and knowledgeable one different areas to look at and history of different things in the area. He mentioned some other places that we should check out while we are in the area and we are grateful for his suggestions we had a great time at the first railway tunnel in Canada up in Brockville. definitely worth a stop and we look forward to another visit some other time.

A good tunnel experience…read more The tunnel was very nice and well maintained. Unfortunately, the music wasn't working which is why I am unable to give this place 5 stars today. The lights were working and it was a nice experience still. I thought the experience was awesome because a decorated railway tunnel is cool and is interesting to see. For the reasons that I have stated in this review, I recommend that you all check this tunnel out because of the excellent ambiance and for the beauty of it.
