Definitely go prepared with water and snacks. It's a great spot for a picnic. Stay hydrated for the climb back up.lol. Wear comfortable clothing and good nonslip supporting shoes. I've seen some in flip flops, idk how they do it . The most strenuous areas of hiking are at the beginning with the natural rock staircase. This area includes Uneven rocks and steep step up and down areas. Could be a challenge for small children and anyone with back or knee problems. But it's not impossible for most if you wear the right shoes, maybe bring a hiking stick; and pace yourself. Just go for-warned and prepared. I highly recommend the hike if you love the outdoors and natural beauty. My husband and I take our time getting to the falls and enjoy a picnic once we arrive, and it is about a 3 to 4 hour round trip most of the time for us. Hopefully that helps keep things in perspective for you as far as timing. Also, There will be no cell service for most once you reach the falls. But That just means you get to enjoy a nice peaceful uninterrupted experience.

Accessible by sedan also is a big big plus bc my ignorant self did not take off-roading into account (and did it anyway) which I don't recommend esp if you have access to a Jeep or other all-terrain vehicle. I did this hike through the rain and it wasn't too bad but just watch out for slippery rocks. There are a bunch of slick rocks in the end where the cave is so don't be a dummy like me and try to traverse it because it's a little sketch but still super fun. You can easily dial this short hike into a workout and it'll def be harder coming back up. Bring some water and snacks to chill out at the cave, but always Leave No Trace~ Would definitely come back with my Jeep in the future. Winter time looks extra fun since the falls actually freeze over :O

Free entrance and free parking is a plus. No sign in required…read more There are restrooms at the base of the mountain. The West Summit Trail is supposed to be easier than the Eastern. Since I'm not used to climbing mountains I chose the Western. All I can say is whoever called that a trail is an optimist. Yes, there are some discernible parts that look like a trail, but much of the way is climbing over large rocks and boulders which in some places are sort of stacked like stairs. It was a challenge. Thank you to whoever put in the occasional benches where I could catch my breath and give my 64 year old legs a rest in between climbs. I saw some with small children, but those 6 and under were not enjoying it. If you have hiking boots, bring them along with some water, you will need them. I wore sneakers but they were slipping on some of the rocks. There are some places rails would have helped. If you don't have good balance this is not for you. The good news is I made it up to the top and down without breaking or spraining anything. I am glad I've been walking 3 miles at home, as that helped get me in enough shape to attempt this. But home is flat, and climbing uses different muscles. The view at the top is amazing, and I'm glad I did it. I'd like to work on getting in better shape and trying it again. ...But if you're not in the best shape, I recommend working on that first. Even some young people were saying how challenging the trek was for them.

There's a jogging track, a few piers to fish from, a kids playground and hiking trails that lead back into the woods. We spent one day canoeing on the river and another day hiking to Sunrise Bluff and the old ghost town of Pinnacle Springs. Our guide John knows the creek and woodlands like the back of his hand -- lots of great history, geology and biology. He was a great help in assisting us both on land and on the water especially with some of the older people in our group. We will be back.
