Whatever you do, don't provide your phone number when purchasing an item. I came in to buy new light bulbs, and while that experience was okay, I've now been inundated with threatening scam calls (3 to 4 times a day). How do I know it was Robinson that sold my info on? Well, since it's the only store that I gave out my number to in the last six months, I started receiving these multiple scam calls on the VERY DAY that I bought the items from their store. When you deal with one place that has a chain of stores you would think that product, let alone service would be consistent around the board. While planning my washroom renovation, this was one of the stops, to see what the better stuff looks like. You can go to your Rona's and Home Depot's all you want for building supplies, but when it comes to faucet's, tubs, shower bases, shower systems, these guys carry a higher end range of product from Grohe to Riobel to Kohler you'll find some good stuff here. The place has a huge showroom, and when I was in here, walking in, amazingly enough it did not feel like a greenhouse, as you do see a ton of lights being displayed. This maybe the prettiest Robinson Lighting showroom I have seen, yet they lack service, most people I find behind a computer behind a counter. And compared to another review of mine at another location, I did not get this here, not even a smidgen close to the attention and service I received at another store. I wasn't even quoted, or given the option of a shower base I was looking for (60 x 30) and said it would take a few weeks? OK are you guys franchised here, cause I just did this transaction a few hours before entering this store. So I was quite confused with the whole matter, at the same time this store, as said, is nicely located, has great selection, and doesn't carry the cheap substitutes you might see in places like going along Bridgeport in Richmond where there are a ton of light stores. If you take pride in where you live, willing to spend more, and not wanting it to look like a cheap addition/renovation where your renting it out, or flipping it on the market, your probably coming here to get something, the only downside is the service, other than that it's not a bad store. read more

Our experiences to date with this large store has been stellar. Quite frankly, I'm surprised by some of these negative reviews. Our experiences have been consistently excellent here. Shortly after moving here, we came here to look at all the modern lighting fixtures, specifically looking for a contemporary chandelier to hang over our dining area in our new condo. We looked through the whole store and were so impressed with the variety of styles, materials, price points, and types of fixtures overall. We also checked out the bathroom fixture area. Wow! We just love places like this, with high end and brand name fixtures, some are SO cool, it was a real eye-opener, what is out there. Anyhow, we purchased a gorgeous (and pricey) chandelier, only to find out a week later, when our electrician came to install the fixture and our televisions, that the chandelier wouldn't work for the area we needed it. Something about specs and "electrical stuff" that we didn't understand. (Note to self: when buying expensive fixtures for specific places, get your electricians' advice beforehand, or bring him/her with you shopping). Anyhow, we returned the chandelier back to Robinson and there was no problem at all with the return. No issues whatsoever. The other day a faucet lever in our condo fell off in the shower, and despite all our efforts (and those of the handyman and places nearby), it can't be fixed. I called up Robinson's bathroom department to see if they could order this part for me. They unfortunately could not, saying they don't carry this line, but they referred me to another bath store, saying that they might carry this line, they are super high-end and could probably help me out. The only place in town where looking up doesn't label you as a dreamer with your head in the clouds. And the only place in town to give me a crick in my neck for the same reason. How I didn't bump into many a look-e-loo while searching for the perfect illumination is beyond me. These lighting experts are no joke. After a few moments of explaining my apartment, the sales person was nodding, she'd heard my story before. (The dilemma? Oh, yeah, no ceiling fixture for a light in the bedroom, and one plug that connects to the light switch. Bravo builders in the 1980's bravo!) Within a few minutes I had everything I needed, including lightbulbs, but truth be told, I could stay all day fantasizing about glorious ceiling and floor space to fill with beautiful bulbs - all shapes, sizes, price points and tastes. Next time I'll venture into the bathroom part of the store, I was scared I'd be taking a sledgehammer to my tub if I fancied a peek. PS. This is an impressive shop. Lots of lighting fixtures and the selection is quite large. Convenient location for the Fairview slopes. I came here to look for a specific bulb. Unfortunately, they did not have it, but were willing to order it in for me. I was hoping that a specialty lighting store had it, but they didn't. I also went to the plumbing side to ask a question about a leaky faucet and what the problem may be. I got the advice I was looking for. I finally found out they tried to contact me but the email was wrong. That was my fault. The seller was nice and I bought the product by the phone. I had to wait 7 days to get to the store and got there on time. He also said I was going to get a guidance to choose the best light bulbs for my room. That was a quick and good experience. But Robinson failed again when I got in the store. The seller that brought me the product didn't seem he wanted to help. When he gave me the sconces, I asked him for the light bulbs options, he just went to whatever place and came back with 2 incandescent light bulbs and that's it. Then I asked him the options of better ones and maybe LED. He said there was no options for those sconces, showed the package of the sconce and that's it again. Short dialogue. Didn't want to help AT ALL. I left with the free incandescent light bulbs on hand and went to Homedepot. I showed the light bulbs, that were still on my hand, to the salesman and he found me an LED with the color I wanted in just few seconds. Easy like that. He even showed couple more options. The sconces were installed and... those just look garbage!! Cheap look, kind of crooked and do not look good at all. I am wondering why Robinson sells such a bad product. Still very disappointed with the overall experience. :/ ---- Just giving a quick update about this place overall including other stores outside Vancouver: worst business I've ever seen. I have faced so many unbelievable issues for the past few months with that chain store that I can't believe they still have customers. One of my problems: I had a special order (not custom) of 2 different products and wanted to cancel one of them and pay the restocking fee. They basically told me I could only get the product that I wanted to take home if I took both with me, even though I chose them separately! They basically forced me to take both products home. Or either both, or nothing. After many complains, I could finally return the product that I was forced take home but they charged me 10% more on top of the 25% restocking fee for shipping back the product. I was not aware of that when I bought them. So they can just make up those "rules" whenever they want and I need to agree otherwise I don't get anything back. This was just one of the experiences. Also, if you want to talk with manager or someone above the person that's not solving your problem, be aware that they can have same last name. So I am not sure how that can be a good thing. If you have any other option, even if you pay a bit more, just got for it. Don't use this store. I am glad that Amazon is raising the bar regarding good customer service and I hope those kind of companies feel the struggle and start thinking more about customers satisfaction. In the past this store has given me good advice and service, as my previous rave review testified. But recently one of the halogen bulbs on my track lighting fixture burnt out and I went in to see if I could replace it with a LED bulb. I was told the track was not compatible with LED lighting and replacing the existing halogen bulb only had a 50/50 chance of working! Really?!?! Whoever it was (I forget his name) advised me to buy a brand new track, 2 new LED bulbs, plus a new dimmer switch (because he said my existing one would not work), not to mention the cost of hiring an electrician to do the installation. So he said I could try spending $6 with a poor chance of success, or ante up over $300 which would be the way to go. This didn't sound right to me. I went over to Home Depot who said there was no reason LED bulbs would not work. He sold me two, I came home and put them in, no problem. Not only that, my dimmer switch works too -- perhaps not perfectly because I can only dim the bulbs half way before they begin to flicker - but good enough. Unless the Robinson Lighting employees are on commission (with quotas to meet), why would I be urged to spend money unnecessarily? Disappointed!!! read more

Good spot for finding lighting and some bath supplies, however, it probably has the WORST customer service in retail industry. Their sales people do not return calls, make you wait in store for hours, will not provide quotes or deliveries in time, the staff don't forward calls and the store manager absolutely doesn't pay attention to customer complaints. It's probably due to hot housing market and good business that they simply don't care about customer service, not sure, but multiple experiences over the last year has been universally poor. So, if you have a particular lighting need that they provide, go there, otherwise if you care about customer service take your business elsewhere! read more

You light up my life... Our kitchen design suggested we go here after I mentioned that we'd seen some lighting at Home Depot. He said that HD's lights often require special, expensive light bulbs and that we'd probably find something at Robinson that would only be a bit more expensive. This store is huge and they have lighting from $50 to $18,000 and probably more expensive too. The selection is wide and the staff were helpful. It was busy today so they took our name and there's comfortable seating while you wait for a rep to come get you. We were going for something quite simple and modern but there were some black chandeliers to die for! There's a 20% off sale right now and you get 7 days to return your purchase if you get it home and realise it's just not right. read more

My transaction was quite easy and low maintenance. At least I thought it was. Before I began anything, I asked one person behind a desk what their return policy was and she directed me to the other department to tell me what the return policy was. So this persons job is to not find answers for you but to send you away to someone else for answers. I suppose not knowing company policy isn't in her job description. But any way I came in, looked at the show room, and selected the items that I needed. I went to the register to put an order in. It was for a faucet and a kitchen sink. The girl told me that it will take about a week to ship from the Surrey location to the Vancouver location for me to pick up in store. She printed me a paper. I asked if I needed to pay anything. Sarah, who was helping me, said that I can pay when I pick it up in a week. So I leave thinking that my new fixtures will arrive soon and will look fantastic. 10 days past and I called to ask for a status update on my order. I get transferred 3 times before someone can check on my order status. Once I finally got through to someone, she pulled up my file and asked if I wanted to put down a deposit on it to order. I was quite confused because I was under the impression that it was already ordered and on its way. Clearly it wasn't ordered so she said that she can get the order in by tomorrow and that Sarah will call me the next day. Three days past and no calls. I was pretty patient up to that point. So I just decided to take my business to someone who will appreciate it more. My husband and I went through Robinson's Cambie location on Saturday, looking for materials for our bathroom reno. We wandered through the entire store, visiting tubs, sinks, lighting etc. We saw about 8 staff; one was busywith a couple, the others not with customers. Two were at computers typing and definitely saw us. NOT ONE PERSON SPOKE TO US. No acknowledgement of our existence. Couldn't believe it. Not smart. We'll get our materials elsewhere. If you need someone to help with the install they have people and know people who have people. For as long as I can remember, they've been here for years. To be quite honest , I have avoided this store for years. We have renovated 3 homes in 5 years and after spending time at Robinson on the first reno I have made sure never to return. I totally agree with the other reviews here, they have a great selection but the quality of service is awful. Too bad, there is really a shortage of good lighting shops in town which is silly for a city that is suppose to have such an active real estate market. Had to resort to buying online. read more

I have been a long time customer of Robinson's Lighting and Bath here in Vancouver. I have ordered fixtures for two houses and a cabin over the years. Although they carry good product lines, their service in unbelievably bad. Recently we have had to return two sinks and a vanity because the saleswoman (Danielle) made a mistake - twice. We have a young child and have not had a bathroom sink in our main bathroom for 6 months because of these mistakes. Also she will not return our phone calls and we are constantly having to track her down. Went into this store twice in three weeks to buy new lighting for my entire home but finding someone to help me was like pulling teeth. Trip 1: Store was relatively quiet. Women behind her desk did not greet me but did make a point to glare at me while I walked around the showroom. After about half an hour I asked the receptionist for help and she called a salesperson to help me. Turned out to be the same women of course who was glaring at me upon arrival. She was rude and short with me until she realized I needed to spend a significant amount of money. At that point she became more friendly. I would have purchased all of her recommendations on the spot but felt so humiliated I told her I needed to sleep on it. Trip 2: ... A week later. Store was a bit busier then my first visit and the salespeople probably felt busy because a number of them would look away while approaching them. I proceeded to seek out the pieces previously recommended by the salesperson. I was standing by a shelf with the LED Downlights. There was only 1 box on the shelf so I picked it up with the intent of asking a nearby sales guy if there were more in the back. The sales person (who in his defense was helping someone at the time) walked up to me and took the light right out of my hand! Without a word he turned and showed the light to another customer. Honestly, i could not believe it! At that point I left, crossed the street and went to Home Depot where i bought my bathroom lighting. I still have more lighting to buy but will definitely not be getting it from Robinson Lighting on Cambie. read more

We had an excellent experience with the team at Robinson Lighting. We've dealt with other lighting companies that had so many issues of poor service including communication, incorrect orders, and parts not being delivered. The Robinson team however were a breath of fresh air. From the beginning they were helpful with ideas based on our goals of the space, knew their products, and worked efficiently to get things done in a timely fashion (we were working on a deadline). In addition, they have an understanding policy that if a fixture didn't work out (1 of ours didn't), we were able to return it. Such a pleasure to work with them and would definitely be a returning customer and recommend them! And we LOVE our lights! read more

As was mentioned by another reviewer, the staff that work here are far more interested in sitting behind a computer monitor than asking customers if they need any help. Not one person asked if they could be of any assistance. There was this one blonde guy in particular whom I directed a few questions about a light fixture and you would think that the store was not in the business of making a sale and generating revenue. He acted as though I was bothering him. At the end of our exchange, he said 'okay?' as in 'this conversation is finished now, can I go back to sitting behind my computer.' When he said 'okay' a second time, it was incredibly grating and I was just like 'really? this is how you speak to customers?' I almost asked 'oh, I'm sorry, are you not a salesperson? I'm so sorry for bothering you with my questions.' I will gladly take my business elsewhere than be treated like a nuisance. read more

I have been into this store twice, once for a bathroom light fixture, and more recently to look at kitchen faucets. Both times, no one approached me to ask if I needed help; rather, they all sit at their computers and do not even acknowledge your existence. I have been in multiple other bath & kitchen stores on my mission to find the perfect faucet, and this had the worst service of the bunch. The kitchen faucet selection is very poor as well. Robinson maintains the perfect balance between having a lot of selection in a wide variety of design styles in various price points and not overloading the store and creating sensory overload. Their sales staff really know their stuff and make helpful recommendations. They also accurately predict how long special orders will take to come in. Pricewise they are probably a little higher than competitors in the outlying 'burbs but the Cambie & 7th location with free parking makes shopping here irresistable. read more

We always wait but we never get anyone to help. I'm not sure if they have enough man power or if it's ageism. I have to say, this store has incredibly upped its game in its inventory and service. I've purchased numerous things there in the past 18 months at all price points. It is my favorite go-to store if I need bath or lighting. I used to joke with friends that I went into Robinson Lighting for 28 years and no one ever asked if they could help me. Don't be fooled by the nice show room, they have the worst customer service I have dealt in a long time. We were first helped by a mature sales rep and when I came back to order a less experienced person helped me. I was told in 3-4 weeks the lighting would arrive. When I called to see if the lights were in, I was told with much attitude that the lights had not even been ordered yet due to their ordering manager being in a different Provence. Whether you spend $100 or $1000 you want good customer service and to know that your order is being taking care of. I have been left feeling disappointed by the customer service, not given any positive solutions and am very frustrated. Now I am being told the order will take another week to order plus 5-10 more business days which will bring us to 5-6 weeks just for two lights and adding a delay our job. As a result, I will not be ordering anything from this company in the future and would advise others to look elsewhere too, like Wayfair who offers free shipping direct to you home. read more

When I asked for help on something I was told to walk to another area of the store to find someone else to talk to. As much as a love the ghetto X-mas lights on my ceiling there will be a time in which I will have to upgrade my lighting system at some point, especially in my basement suite to something a little more classy, not dated and energy efficient.
