We provided every document the firm requested, including the POA and trust documents they themselves recommended. Yet each submission was rejected. The process became so unmanageable that we ultimately changed mortgage companies, as the original lender did not offer a product suitable for a loan made to a trust. The turning point for me was an unprofessional conversation between one of the attorneys, Anna Dougherty, and our mortgage lender. She insinuated that something "wasn't right" with our situation and claimed the story kept changing. She also questioned why the attorney who prepared the POA and trust had not contacted them--despite having no factual basis for that assumption--and suggested we had switched from a cash purchase to a loan without understanding the circumstances. In my own profession in healthcare, speaking about a client or patient in that manner would lead to reprimand or termination. In the end, we stopped using McMichael & Gray and closed with a different real estate attorney. The same documents that McMichael & Gray rejected were fully accepted for the successful sale of our parents' home in New York and by the attorney who ultimately closed our loan. Based on my experience, if McMichael & Gray are assigned as closing attorneys in any future transaction I'm involved in--and I am unable to choose a different firm--I would strongly consider walking away from the deal.

He was paid in full before providing services--something I now consider a major red flag. My father's probate was filed on July 2, 2025. After my mother's probate was completed and her Letters of Administration were published beginning March 18, 2026, I repeatedly contacted the attorney by text and email asking about my father's case. Getting answers was extremely difficult. I eventually contacted the probate clerk myself and discovered that documents were missing and the court had already mailed my attorney a letter notifying him of the missing documents. I ultimately received my father's Letters of Administration to publish beginning July 1, 2026--nearly a year after the case was filed. This delay had a real financial impact. I could not get the deed transferred into my name in time to apply for the homestead exemption before the deadline. When I questioned the attorney about the delay, his response was: "No time tables at all with probate. They take their sweet time." I understand that courts have their own timelines. What I expected from the attorney I paid in full was to monitor the case, address outstanding documents, communicate with me, and keep the process moving. Instead, I had to repeatedly chase him for updates and ultimately contact the court myself to find out what was happening. Probate is already difficult when you're dealing with the loss of both parents. Having to fight for basic communication from the attorney I hired only made it worse. In hindsight, paying the entire fee upfront should have been my first red flag. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this attorney for probate.
