Read about this wild Candy Shop in the Boston Globe, then learned their Boston location was too small so they expanded their Great Barrington Shop in Western MA. Build it and they will come-- and they do! It was crowded when we arrived but Robin was on hand giving out cute packets of Jelly Beans and chatting with everyone in line. The staff is super nice -and must have the patience of saints to stay so friendly even when it gets so crowded. Besides, the wait was not long and we found "Zero Bars" and Mallow Cups which we thought disappeared years ago. If you go in the summer be sure to design your own flavor of soft serve ice cream. The most delicious Buttercrunch I've ever eaten! Tasted a Champagne gummy bear (who knew?), then discovered what must be the best selection of licorice ever assembled in one place. Haven't seen so many varieties of "salmiakki" (salt) licorice since I was in Europe, and if you are a red licorice fan you will lose control for sure! Yup, expensive, but well worth skipping the $9 piece of cake for dessert at the restaurant down the street so I can enjoy my bag of licorice! Oh, and they give out free toothbrushes! For what I paid for a little treat for me and my sweetie I could have bought dinner at Baba Louie's. Don't fall for her ploy of not showing the prices. Our family had a reunion in Great Barrington this fall. 11 of us descended upon Robin's Candy Shop just before her staff was opening for the day. They let us in early, gave us each a sample of candy dots (the kind that come on paper strips- didn't know they still existed!) and encouraged us to explore the vast array of candy and novelties while they got the register open. Everyone was super helpful and there was something for everyone in our group to enjoy. LOVE the toothbrushes we got to "keep our sweettooth healthy!" The licorice was awesome so we now have some shipped every month. This kind of store is a rare find and worth going out of your way to visit. This place appears to be trying to make a SAD attempt at copying Dylan's candy bar in NYC but they are more expensive, the quality is no where near Dylan's and did I mention they are more expensive!! Our family goes to Robin's after skiing at Butternut when we visit our relatives. There would be a riot in the backseat if we didn't leave enough time to stop there. Robin and her staff always help us find the newest sour stuff, and this year they have a giant wheel to spin for a free sample of "BeanBoozled" (yum and yuck at the same time!). This place was subpar at best. At first glance, cute store, good candy selection. However, when I ordered a custom soft serve, the employee couldn't find my flavor, so I had to pick something else. Not the employee's fault as she was a trainee, but she could've taken the initiative to ask another employee and the store should perhaps have organized their flavors better. Overall, not a bad experience, the ice cream was good, but not great either and melted rather quickly. SUCH a fun candy store! I have fun whenever I go in here! Every type of candy old and new you could possibly dream of (and every size). Giant candy bars and Rice Krispie treats can be found as well as individual gummies and treats to put as many in a bag as you wish. The largest selection of black liquorish I have ever seen and the most interesting soft serve flavors! The woman who I've met working there is absolutely lovely and so sweet. Amazing candy from the nicest owners!! What really surprised me was that aside from the usual candies, they have the coolest, most creative ones too. It's as close as you can get to a real-life Willy Wonka's factory. Personal favorite is the chocolate-covered almonds. The almonds are coated with something sweet and a little spicy which was a delightful discovery. Can't wait for the next time I can have some candy from Robin's! read more

If I could give this place a zero star I would. Be very careful when ringing multiple orders because they will double charge you. We got to small bags of candy and it ringed up to be $50.00 And they won't give you the itemized receipt. When asked the woman got quite angry and didn't want to show it to me. I stumbled upon Robin's by chance this past weekend after ending up in MA when I couldn't find a hotel that wasn't booked solid in upstate NY! I'm from NYC, so while I did find the prices here to be steep, I also realize that it's a specialty store in a touristy area and I was really impressed by the selection of merchandise! One of the first things I noticed when walking in the door, (other than how the place was packed to the gills with all kinds of colorful candy) was the immense licorice section. I *L*O*V*E* black licorice and have never seen anything like this before. There was a display packed full of all kinds of licorice imported from all over the world. First, I pinched myself, then I got down to business deciding which I would go home with(I settled on Dutch licorice caramels and Dutch mint licorice caramels). They were so fresh and amazingly good, I wished I had gotten a lot more than the few bucks worth I did. Other candy selections include: an enormous Astro Pop, various candy involving insects(lollipops with ants/worms/scorpions inside, chocolate covered crickets), a large selection of chocolate such as nonpariels and truffels, retro candy, a sizeable M&ms section (with the dispensers of different colored M&Ms), jawbreakers, all sorts of gum, lollipops, gummy candy, gumballs, Choward's violette candies,giant gummy bears, it was a very complete and well maintained selection. Though the store was stuffed full of candy, none of it looked old or faded or dusty and mixed among the gimmicky items were lots of high quality regular choices and hard to find items. There were also a lot of small gift-type items including a portable pen shaped pepper grinder for your purse, a nice selection of Demeter fragrances, gummybear inspired body wash and lotion, postcards, teeny tiny cactii, imported handpainted nesting dolls, etc. This store was kind of like heaven to me. Our Family was visiting Great barrington for a wedding and needed to entertain the troops between events over the weekend. Found Robin's Candy and didn't need to look any further. We spent an hour in the Shop (seriously). Started with the gigantic caramel and nut "Tortoises", moved to the 24 flavors of jelly bellys, found the best candy corn ever - even way past Halloween, and fresh robin's eggs despite Easter being far off. Must be the only reviewer to pass on the packed licorice display (not our thing)-- but made up for it building our own soft serve yogurt creations (The staff insists it is fat-free but it tasted really rich-- ask for a sample they are very willing to offer tastes). If you are looking for super-market stuff you are not in the right place-- but if you appreciate shopping in small, creative and independently owned businesses you will look past the prices and have fun! read more

Worst experience ever! i payed almost 50$ for two small bags of candy and a candy bar! be very very careful when you have multiple items because you will be double charged and you can't see anything they are doing over the counter. The receipt doesn't show you the items you paid for and it is a complete rip off if there was a zero star option i would press that. Very disappointed!!! Robin's candy truly has something for everyone. Everything from pop rocks, to jelly belly's, to giant (like 10 lbs. plus) gummy bears/worms/snakes, to gelato, to insect candy (yuck). The store is well staffed, and the staff is always very friendly. They also have a very good assortment of unique gifts; some Berkshire-related and some not. My only issue with the store is their prices, which I suppose they can justify (or try to) by virtue of what I assume is very high Main Street rent in GB. The "normal" candy (think junior mints, m&ms, etc.) is probably 3x as expensive as what can be purchased at the CVS just down the street. Some of the non-traditional items are also on the high side ($20 lb. for rice krispie treats in sugar cones). They do have a great selection of candy, so as long as you stick to CVS for your basic stuff, you'll find some great treats (albeit expensive) at Robin's. read more

My two children bought less than a total of 1/2 lb. of candy and, much to my surprise, the total came to over $60!!! For example, they charge $3.99 for a Chupa Chups whistle lollipop. The walls are covered, from floor to ceiling with a rainbow mosaic of candy. Candy and sweet assortments from all over the world, old fashioned, new, and of all different textures and tastes. Robin has a treat for everyone and focuses on the customer's wants and needs, always. Even if a customer doesn't know what they're looking for, Robin can help them find it. This shop is also perfect for all seasons and occasions. There's ice cream and frozen yogurt for the summer, pumpkin flavored candy for the fall, and holiday treats and gifts for all of the holidays. No, no, no, no, no. Prices aren't posted under the "award-winning chocolates," so who could blame my wife for wanting to get a pound of chocolates for our trip home and thereafter, and who could resist the saleswoman nice-sounding question, "Would you like me to top off the box with a few more?" We then bought a single chocolate-covered peanut-butter cup. Grand total: $61.00 and change. We walked out and it hit us a few moments later: we had two lbs of chocolate and a peanut butter cup and were charged -- including tax -- over $61.00. I went back in to clarify and it was true: $30 a pound. We were also given a gentle runaround about returning some of it -- after negotiating to "only" buy $35 of it and having to bargain about the fact that "someone" had apparently actually EATEN one of them already (I thought that was what you were supposed to do with award-winning chocolates). Finally we were asked to produce the credit card that the payment was processed under. There was no credit card: my wife paid cash. When the woman was informed of this she asked for the receipt -- which was in the bag and which confirmed her sale of about 10 minutes before -- and then finally relented by giving us about $15 back and taking some of the award-winning chocolates back. As for the chocolates themselves? I'm no milk chocolate fan, but they tasted decidedly average to me. If you are in the mood to pay $30 a pound for chocolate, I would comparison shop around for award-winning chocolates. read more

We never go into Great Barrington without stopping by Robin's, and we make a point of directing our visitors there as well. My husband and I go there for an after-dinner ice cream, but there are candy and gift items there as well. There is always something new to try, and Robin's selection of "the penny candy you grew up with" is so much fun to see (and sample) once again! Besides, where else can you see the world's largest gummy bear?! Some of our favorites: Chocolate Frogs with that fizzy candy (Pop Rocks?) that makes the chocolate sputter and crackle in your mouth The Licorice Corner, with licorice from around the world M&Ms in every imagineable color. Lollypops with a scorpion nestled inside Freeze-dried crickets (a favorite with our teenage son and his friends) FABULOUS ice cream (I recommend both the Aztec Hot Chocolate, with a hint of chile/ cayenne, and Mint-Summer Night's Dream.) If you are in the Berkshires DON'T miss this Shop! We do two things every summer when we go to visit family 1) take a picnic to Tanglewood and 2) go to Robin's Candy Shop in Great Barrington (if it rains we skip the picnic -- but never skip the visit to Robin's!). Robin is almost always there and greets us warmly (we've been there each summer since they opened about ten years ago). It must be expensive to stock the gigantic selection of inventory Robin packs into the Shop-- but hey, she has Sky Bars, O'Henry's, Nik'l'nips and Zotz! I completely agree with the previous reviews! This place is incredibly over priced. Be ware most of the prices are not listed so you will be in for a shock at checkout. My husband and I picked out two peanut butter cups, 4 tiny caramels and two large non-pareils for a grand total of $26. The absolute worst part is that the quality was sub-par. Go here--as soon as possible. Be sure to stock up on their paper thin ribbon candy and peppermint bark in December and fill a bag with Israeli dark Chocolate Gelt before you leave--Then order one of their "tasting flights" -- monthly treats of licorice selections, or fudge or assorted gummies and imported rare finds (Crunchies!!) delivered to your home (I got one for myself and one for my boss-- She loves it!). Go mid-week or in the late morning to avoid the crowds. Too bad she can't knock down a few walls to make more space. We discovered this fun candy store while vacationing in the Berkshires. While they had a lot of fun and different novelties and candies, the chocolate was EXTREMELY overpriced. The price per pound was not labeled and so we thought at most it would be up to $16/pound. Buyer Beware! $32 per pound!!! So for just trying to sample a few different chocolate candies (which they make you purchase 1/3 pound minimum) my bill came out to $65! Taste was only average - chocolate espresso beans were o.k. but bacon lovers with milk chocolate was nothing to brag about. . Too bad.....this will be the last time I will be taken advantage of as a tourist in that store. read more

You know how there's that one relative that always makes the extra effort to keep track of your favorite thing -- maybe it's a pie at thanksgiving or a special holiday meal or killer sandwich -- and then magically produces it upon your arrival? Okay, that was a dream I had. But Robin's candy is that kind of dream. It doesn't just have licorice, it has the sticky Finnish kind, the extra salty dutch stuff, many, many different varieties and even the red stuff some people say isn't really licorice. If it still exists, this store has practically every candy you worshipped as a kid. For me, that candy was sponge candy, and they have it at Robin's, though not in the summer. because it doesn't do well in humidity. It's locally made, too. Some prices might be a tad high because of all the chasing around they have to do to get everyone's favorite, but come on, it's not precious gems, it's candy, how much can it cost?
