He was the most arrogant, rude, and narcissitic man I ever met. I only met him once and he made me very uncomfortable before we even got into the session. I was also with my mom, since I was 19 at the time. My mom said something that she never told me to the doctor about my body rejecting my transplant when I was 8. So I was kinda surprised. He saw my reaction and immediately shouted, "There! There's anxiety!" Like, anyone would have a surprised/shocked reaction to that if they never knew. Not long afterwards I was talking to a friend about Berglund and she said that he has been her family psychiatrist for years! He put her on a medication that made her gain weight. She complained that it made her gain weight and he told her that it wasn't his fault she was eating more and got fat as well as she should work harder to lose weight anyways. She fell into a deep depression but she's fine now. Also, to those who are reading this review, please look at the way he responds to the reviews that contain 3 or less stars. He is very rude, defensive, and it's extremely unprofessional. We are one of those long term patient families who stay with him for just that reason. My 14 yo son appreciates that he talks to him like an adult. He's logical and reasonable and doesn't let you make excuses. Some folks may find that intimidating, we find it refreshing. My son sees a behavioral therapist for the warm and fuzzies, comes to Dr. Berglund for sound recommendations on his medication plan and long term strategic plans for managing his ADHD and anxiety. Dr. Berglund is the rudest doctor I have ever encountered. He told me I was dramatic and that I was wasting the doctors time when I went to the hospital after trying to kill myself. I had a horrible experience. The doctor was very rude to me he told me twice to SHUT up after I told him I don't have family here with me. I have to say that when I read these reviews, it was a bit apprehensive. Within a minute Mr. Berglund and I have to say that he is misrepresented in a lot of these reviews. Being an MSW myself for 15 years and working for the department of corrections for over 12 years. I can honestly say that, I not only appreciate a good doctor when I see one. But I also recognize good quality service. I think that what people find very intimidating is that Dr. Berglund Is highly intelligent and challenges his patients. Which in my opinion, this is what makes a really good doctor. He also does not like to waste his time and tries to utilize it efficiently. If you want to see a doctor who is straight to the point and honest with you, then he is definitely the person for you. All doctors have different techniques and he's not one to sugars coat. I had my intial meeting with Dr. Berglund today and I must say that I was SO glad I went! I had read all the Yelp reviews and was pretty much prepared for anything, but I'm sorry to disappoint you angry Yelpers... Dr. Berglund was very personable, answered all my questions, and spoke to me in depth about my treatment plan. I have General Anxiety Disorder and Panic Disorder and have been having a lot of trouble getting sleep due to my anxiety. My experience with this doctor was like any other after one visit. No excuse I missed my second appointment. My mistake. Paid him in full the consultation charge as i signed a contract I will if I didn't call 24 hours ahead. What I don't understand is that despite apologizing, paying him his fee, and even letting him know I wouldn't be making any further appointments. EASILY This place is a scam. I had never spoken to them, never been there... three years ago they attached a collections account to my credit. I've contacted their office and the collections agency numerous times to let them know this is fraud.. THEY DONT CARE... I can't speak for their medical practices but I can say that they have despicable business practices. A person in my life with access to my info (female) called in and made the appointment without my consent or knowledge. I wasnt aware of this appointment until I received the letter in the mail threatening collections for missing the appointment. I called your office at the time and they wouldn't help me. They didn't believe me even though I told them they could listen t the recording of the call and clearly see a woman made the appointment and not me. I responded via mail to the final collections notice and never heard back. When you sent it to collections some guy I couldn't tell you what his name was called from the collections agency. He was like most agencies like that rude and uncaring. I tried twice to explain to him the situation but he wasn't willing to listen he just wanted his money. This collection has adversely effected my credit for years. It was highlited on the last car I purchased as a reason for a higher interest rate it has been nothing but a thorn in my side. I can actually understand and sympathize with many of these comments. I know that a lot of individuals who are very early in their treatment journey tend to be very fragile and vulnerable (understandably so). I was the same way when I began several years ago. I wasn't put off at all by Dr. Berglund's approach at our first session. It was actually refreshing and instead of rambling on about how my day went, Dr. Berglund went straight to the meat of our conversation. He needed to know key information. He did interrupt me a few times and said that I needed to give a "yes" or "no" answer. That didn't bother me because I understood that I had been conditioned to ramble on when all he needed was an affirmative answer. HOWEVER, I feel it's important to note that I had already been in treatment for my disorders for the past 6 years. I wasn't looking for someone to help me find my footing. I wasn't looking for a therapist. I wasn't looking for someone to validate all of my negative thoughts or to hold my hand as I cycled again and again through particular issues. That's what I have my private therapist for. What I needed from a Psychiatrist was someone to look at my mental health history, evaluate my diagnoses and monitor my medication in tandem with my already established treatment regimen. I see some reviews where people have complained when Dr. Berglund told them that he was not a therapist. Why is that so offensive? He is upfront about his role in your care and that doesn't resonate with certain individuals. Some individuals are at too sensitive a place to really benefit from his style. You should avoid Dr. Berglund if you are looking for a nurturer. You should avoid Dr. Berglund if you don't currently have a therapist who can offer the nurturing you need in addition to his care. However, if you are like me and already have an established team of professionals helping you or you have been in treatment for more than a few years, then you will benefit greatly from his tough-love care and wisdom. He's quick, to the point and has no time for pity parties. He cares about results and the more you rise to the challenge, the more he helps you. Again, if you are interested in a therapist type of Psychiatrist, then go and find one who offers that type of care. But it's a bit unfair to disparage a doctor simply because their style does not gel with your own. read more

Update.. when he posted his reply, I called and discussed it like he asked. He told me to show him records that I called. I am supposed to go to my old job from years ago and ask them to dig up call records from my work line and go through the literal hundreds of calls that I made daily, to prove I cancelled? How does this even make sense. I stupidly told him that I would just fight the mark on my credit and wait for it to fall off. He is now making sure that they refile it every month or whatever it is that they do. Basically my options are to pay him (the balance goes up with interest every time - so even their settlement amount is ridiculous) or let him ruin my credit... Thanks DOC! I finally had to pay for and go to that attorney. But since I had to do so, I am going all out. Not just to fight this and my credit but now for damages too. I had to call them today and ask them to stop contacting me via mail or phone as they will be hearing from my both of my attorneys soon. Class action anyone? Haha! I still can't believe I am having to go through all of this because of a "missed" appointment with my DOCTOR in 2013 - That I DID CANCEL and he keeps saying that I didn't, but is requiring me to prove it, knowing full well that I can't! Dr. Berglund has been helping me since before the pandemic started, but my treatment has been consistent and very flexible. I'm a very anxious person and I really needed to get it under control. Absolutely despicable doctor. He cares nothing about his patients and only about his payments. I have had a problem with this guys manner from the time I first met him and I had been warned by others previously that he was "prickly". He goes far beyond "prickly". Two Saturdays ago, I phoned in a prescription renewal for my daughters meds. On Friday I called to see if the meds were filled. Pharmacy said no and said they would call the doctor. Mu daughters meds ran out today. I went to the pharmacy thinking the meds would be reqdy and they informed me that they haven't heard back from the doctor. I called the doctor, got him on the phone and he had the nerve to tell me that "he doesn't do refills over the phone. The patient has to come into his office" translate "I have to get paid". I promptly fired him. He cares about his money more than his patients health or well being. My advice is to stir clear of this fraud of a doctor. read more

In my experience, Dr Berglund has an over all condescending tone to him, and he completely lacks bedside manner (something I think is necessary in this field). My symptoms were constantly dismissed; I was called a "drama queen" (his words), I was told that cutting my wrists was not a good enough reason to go to the hospital, and I was told that I was "just bored" when in fact I have now been diagnosed with A.D.D. He came off as racist, saying that doctors not from America "Don't know their ass from their elbow" when it comes to medicine. I left many of his sessions in tears. I read reviews of this doctor before visiting, so I was prepared for an intake session where he talked, and asked questions, I and spoke little. I was not prepared for how unprofessional and rude Dr Berglund was. First off, Dr Berglund told me that as a psychiatrist, he does not does not do therapy, he only prescribes medication. He told me all psychiatrists work that way. I now know that that is a blatant lie. Some psychiatrists only prescribe medication, but many others do both therapy and medication. I know this because the next doctor I saw does exactly that, and told me that many others practice that way, as well. He told me at the beginning of our intake that he was going to talk to me, and ask me questions, but that I should only talk when asked a question. About 15 minutes in he used a word I was unfamiliar with in relationship to medication, so I interrupted and politely asked if he could clarify what he just said. He spent two minutes telling me not to interrupt him as his time is very important, and that if I hadn't interrupted him he would have answered my question. He then continued, repeating what he'd said, and finishing that paragraph, which did nothing to clarify what I had asked. But because he had told me not to speak unless asked a direct question, I kept my mouth shut. When we got to the part where he asked me questions, he got angry if my answers were longer than one sentence. He wanted yes/no answers. He repeated the lecture on how important his time is, and that I must stick exactly to his protocol in order to finish the intake appointment in the scheduled time, every time I asked for clarification on questions that I did not understand, or gave him answers longer than one sentence. He was incredibly rude and condescending. After 45 minutes, he asked me if I had any questions. I asked a question. It was along the lines of, "I know you said the symptoms for A were 1, 2, and 3, but I'm experiencing the opposite: symptoms 10, 9, and 8. Clearly I don't have A. Is there a name for what I am experiencing?" He started, "The symptoms for A are 1, 2, and 3. You don't have that." At that point I tried to get him back on point, to my question. "I know I don't have A. I was asking-" He cut me off and repeated the speech he'd given me 8 times already about how his time was important, and that I should never interrupt him, etc. Because I'd heard this, I closed my mouth as soon as he began. Despite the fact that I was not interrupting him, he continued his speech on why I shouldn't interrupt him. I started counting his sentences from the time I stopped talking. When he got to six, I said, "Pardon me, but you asked me not to interrupt you, and I stopped talking five sentences ago. I would appreciate it if you got back to the question I asked, and answered it." At least five seconds of silence followed. We were both seething. He finally said, "I don't think you and I are going to get along, do you?" I said, "No, I don't think we will." He asked me to leave. I walked to my car and cried for 5 minutes before I could drive home. I could not believe any mental health professional could be so rude and condescending. He spoke to me as if I were an ill-behaved five year old child. I don't know if any adults would be comfortable with his manner, though he may work well with children. If you are just looking for a doctor to prescribe medication, he may be the right doctor for you. If you don't like being spoken to like a child, do not talk to this man. read more

I was recommended Berglund, Robin G., MD as a Psychiatrist in the 91362 area code through my insurance's DocFind and he acted completely unprofessionally towards me. A few weeks ago on a Tuesday afternoon, I called the number provided hoping to set up an appointment. He returns my call Thursday (even though his voicemail clearly states a 24-hour turn around time for missed calls). While on that call, the phones became disconnected. I tried to call him back twice and it went straight to voicemail. I assumed he lost reception and went on with my day. That evening I received an extremely inappropriate and rude phone call from him. In the voice mail, he accuses me of hanging up on him and goes on to condescendingly tell me that hanging up on people is no way to treat other human beings and that if that is how I'm treating them then I need some therapy "young lady". It was completely unnecessary. This is very concerning that this man cares about feeding his own ego to the point that he goes out of his way to call someone accusing them of hanging up and making claims about how I need therapy without even meeting me. It was wildly unprofessional and COMPLETELY out of line. And the best part is that it was HIS PHONE that lost reception in the first place! Furthermore, if I had actually hung up on him, what type of Psychiatrist goes out of their way for retribution? He has no business serving in a field that requires compassion. read more

I haven't gone to Berglund for a while.. But the moment I realized he had a yelp page, I felt the need to speak up. I started going to him when I was 16ish and my mom would occasionally attend my appointments.. The way he spoke about me to my mom made me feel dehumanized. Like I was a specimen in a test tube. It's frustrating to have people talk about you like you aren't even there when you're the one affected by the mental health disorder. One user said he comes off as snarky, cold, and lacking in compassion and I completely agree. I won't point out anything specific that he did and I want to make it clear that this is only how made me feel after years of treatment.. Avoiding libel here... I'm with a new psych now and I've never felt more confident in owning my mental issues. She treats me like a human being. In fact his rudeness went to the extreme that when I was talking about my troubles and after listening to me for a minute he cut me off and said "You know STOP with your pity party...." I've been seeing Dr Berglund for my treatment since my treatment began about a year ago. He's been extremely helpful in this time. His direct and blunt style works, plain and simple. For example, recently I was worried that my medication was flaring up a stomach issue when he quickly cut me off and told me that it's likely a gastrointestinal issue flaring up from stress and anxiety, as such my mom and I (I'm 16) scheduled an appointment with my physician to further figure out the issue. I've been seeing Dr. Berglund for years. I was having difficulty with anxiety, feeling fearful when driving, fearful of leaving the house, always looking for the emergency escape in any public building (CVS, department stores etc). I had seen other psychiatrists before him with no improvement. Dr. Berglund recognized my issues and helped me find the proper medication. He has been alert to my general health altogether which lends an additonal amount of comfort and trust. My life as a wife, mother and professional has been what I always thought it could be and Dr. Berglund has been a part of my ability to do so. PLEASE READ BEFORE LETTING YOUR CHILD BE TREATED BY THIS DOCTOR. Take the time to read his responses to his critics. Several times he divulges the "confidential" contents of his therapy sessions to all that read this site in addition to lashing out at the poster. I posted the truth about this doctor on this site (see original post)and have received numerous insulting messages that should be beneath the dignity of his profession.My review was among 30 OTHER ONE STAR reviews.(also look under reviews not recommended at the page bottom). Yes that's 30 F's. After I posted the original review I was contacted with messages of support from other ex-patients or parents.. Today 8/19/17 he contacted me more than 3 YEARS after the original posts yet again sounding completely unhinged. Please note that two formal complaints have been filed against him. I have seen Dr. Berglund roughly 4 times thus far. I am very pleased with his medical knowledge and the treatment I have received from him. His manner is direct and to the point. I know that I am not going to him for therapy. He is the medical doctor that I have chosen to manage my medication. I am so confident in his way of practicing medicine that my 16 year old daughter started seeing him too. There is no better recommendation I can give other than that. read more

I just left Dr. Berglund's office. As a small business owner I take Yelp reviews with a grain of salt. I had read his reviews that were primarily low stars. I think the Doctor has been unfairly judged in some ways and yet the reviews seemed accurate in others. He is very direct and efficient in his treatment. He does not like to be interrupted and would rather a patient remain quiet as he explains treatment options. The talker in me did not care for that but we formulated a plan and I was out the door feeling hope for my problem. If you can go there open-minded and not let his tact feel oft-putting you should leave with good results. read more
