This man prescribed me Sertraline (generic Zoloft) to treat my Borderline Personality Disorder, which can frequently make Borderline symptoms far, far worse. I was hospitalized a few months later (1/02) from S.I. perpetuated by the Sertraline. I informed him immediately, and I *quite literally* had to beg for sessions for a *week* before he met with me (01/08). I had to pay $800 at the hospital and $265 to him out of pocket that week. Within FIVE minutes of that appointment time (after having to pay another $125 - in advance this time. (NOT "customary")) he dropped me ON THE SPOT. He screened my texts and calls for two days and refused to help me get further treatment. His discharge paper read "you need a higher level of care", but he certainly didn't lift a finger to help me get it. (He still has yet to provide me with a summation of charges, as required by CA law.) I cannot stress enough how horrendously unethical it is to discharge a patient because you gave them the wrong medication... but to then give them the run-around for a week as they begged for a post-hospitalization appointment? Deplorable. I would recommend never, ever seeing this man. I am lucky that I was able to find a provider that gave me proper medication afterwards weeks later, because this man nearly cost me my life and cared so little that he literally threw me out for having a reaction to his treatment. **I had to literally ween myself off the medication without help because he wouldn't even do that** Kamat, if you're reading this - and I hope you are - *shame on you*. The trauma my wife and I had to endure following my reaction has cost us months of therapy. My wife will never forget it, and I will never forgive you for dropping me for suffering from horrible S.I. from the medication you prescribed me. I begged for your help and you threw me away. I deserved better, and so does anyone considering seeing Dr. Kiran Kamat. Do. Not. See. This. Man. The large number of negative reviews are for a reason. (edit: as a post-script, this man and his staff refuse to wear masks, as per their own yelp description. That should be enough to know that he literally doesn't care about your health.) read more

I saw Kiran once he completely dismissed what I was saying, argued with me that I didn't have my diagnosis even though the proof of the paperwork was in front of him and continued to question me my diagnosis. His wife was also walking in the background throughout the whole appointment which doesn't give me reassurance on how much privacy we had in our appointment. He clearly doesn't care and only cares about the money considering our intake appointment was about 10 minutes. I do NOT recommend him at all, find someone else. read more

I saw him for several months and I hated every visit. He did not ever listen to me, seldom made eye contact and was very disrespectful. After a few months on an antidepressant I was feeling worse and I shared my suspicion with him that I was having a negative response to the medication because I was more depressed than before I started and I was feeling suicidal. His response was to tell me that I was being dramatic and that if I was really suicidal that I wouldn't have told him I would have just done it. So the fact that I was telling him meant that it wasn't serious and I needed to stop being a drama queen and did I want him to put me on a psych hold? I said no so he said that proved his point and he upped my dose. I left and never came back. Irresponsible and damaging to patients. read more

I wouldn't recommend Dr Kamat. A psychiatrist's office should be a place you are free to say what's really going on so you can be diagnosed and treated properly. His personable and pleasant demeanor have made me feel comfortable discussing my mental / emotional state and wellbeing. I was seeing Dr. Kamat for 2 years now and am very happy with the care he gave me. In the beginning I needed to see him more often for medication management to find what dosage worked with me as well as get a handle on my severe depression. He's a great doctor and meets all the needs for stable patients that need a check-in every couple of months. He has a lot of insight and cares about his patients BUT you need to speak up about your problems. If something isn't working, tell him and he is happy to work with you to sort out the issue. He prescribed me the 3 main medications I use to treat my anxiety/depression and was very good about checking in on how they were working. I've also recently switched insurance providers without it being a problem to keep seeing him as he is covered by several different insurance policies. The new receptionist is super nice and I've never had a problem scheduling an appointment (either with her or the previous guy). I would continue to see Dr. Kamat if it weren't for his office being too far from my new apartment. read more

I don't understand the positive reviews Dr. Kamat has received. At my last visit, feeling extremely vulnerable and in need of his guidance, his only response to me was "well, what medication do you want to take?" I don't see how this is proper treatment of a patient. Why are you asking me what meds I should take? If I knew what medications I should take, then I wouldn't need him. I was referred to him because someone read these reviews and there were patients who wrote about how he was such a good listener and took time with them. That has not been the case with me at all. He is not interested in helping me emotionally - he just wants to write prescriptions, and I only get 20 minutes of his time. It felt like a bait and switch because the first meeting was actually good, and long, but it turns out that that was the only time he appeared to be interested in listening to me. Since then, he's just the same as the last psychiatrist I had. They're just prescription pads to me. I wanted more. read more

Dr Kamat has billed my insurance for a service he never provided. He also has my credit card for a co payment and has billed twice trying to collect money. I filed a claim with Blue Shield noting that my son never went to his appointment but this fraud billed Blue Shield anyway. I dont know how he is as a doctor but as a business, epic fail. read more

Dr.Kamat must have been one of the worst doctors I have ever had. Not only was he rude and unprofessional but he also over diagnosed me had me on heavy bi-polar meds when I am not bipolar at all. He also proceeded to insult me telling me I should write porn books after finding one of my personal notebooks. He then when I called him on his staff calling me derogatory names he proceeded to say "well don't give them reason to call you that" and also backed them up on what they said... he basically traumatized me during my stay in their psychiatric facility. I would NOT recomend him to any one and I strongly advise you to look for another consult doctor. I am still dealing with what he said in therapy and it was over a year ago. Dr Kamat is nice, he is friendly and warm. His office management is disorganized at best. His secretarial staff do not call back to give appointments. When I tell Dr. K about his staff, there is always an explanation that I have heard many times. "I just got a new person and maybe that is why you did not get a call back...." I rarely call any doctor for anything but once when I needed Dr. Kamat, he did not call back.... I was referred to Dr. Kamat by a trusted therapist. I needed a psychiatrist who is skilled at medication management. I've been happy with his care...but a good doctor who is handicapped with staff who are lackadaisical....that is unfortunate. I might stay on a while with him. The only reason I will consider staying with him is convenience. His office is close by, parking is about 3 $, and he is time for his appointments. read more

Professional and really sharp! He did not need too much information to diagnose what was actually going on. He even prescribed medications with the least side effects. I don't know how he figured that out but it was amazing! Trust me, I know the difference as I was prescribed by another doctor with horrible side effects. I made an appointment with them a week ago for my son and gave my insurance info at the time. I was told that if I did not get a call the next day then my insurance would cover it. I did not get a call, I stoped looking for other Doctors and assumed it was all well. I got a reminder text the day before the appointment, took off the day of the appointment and pulled my son out of school. 2 hours before the appointment they sent me a text saying that I would have to pay $300 for this visit and $150 for each follow up. I'm beyond disappointed with how they do business and have wasted a whole day. I don't know the Doctor nor will I go there after this but I find the staff to be incompetent. Don't waste your time here and if you have to pay that much then find someone with better reviews. read more

Do not call this doctor!!! When I asked if they are taking new patients, they replied yes, then made me an appointment earlier in the day for the next day. She wanted me to text my insurance information to them, so I texted them the information. She texted me back and told me that they changed the appointment to 4 months in the future. Is this anyway to treat your patients? I've tried numerous times to call her back, but she won't pick up. Since then they have blocked my phone number. Very suspicious. read more
