This is not all that surprising since the town that it used to support has pretty much disappeared. Look, don't expect all that much from this place, and they don't have beers on tap, however the service is pretty good, namely because like a lot of these country pubs the bartender will simply sit there merrily chatting away with you. Yeah, it was nice, and apparently it does go off on a Friday night.

Okay, it still seemed to be a place where the locals would sit at the bar chatting with the bartender, but I didn't let that get to me, especially with the lounge area sporting some rather interesting artwork.

Okay, it is a bit of a trek to reach, and it is also effectively in the middle of nowhere (though I am sure if you are determined enough you could walk, or at least ride a bike), but for me at least, it was certainly worth it. Okay, the pub itself is your typical country pub, and you can be assured that the publican knows everybody who walks in through the door on a first name basis (except for people like me who trek up from the city just to have a beer). They have a pretty nice beer garden, however it is one of those beer gardens that it basically a converted backyard, complete with two yappy dogs that want to play with you while you are having a beer. This pub certainly has a character of its own, and I know I would be very tempted to stop by here again if I am ever in the area.

With friendly staff greetings and quick courteous service, it immediately meets great expectations. The restaurant has a rustic look and feel. I especially like that with a full restaurant, the noise level is very low. Good choice in back ground music. The meals are amazing and delicious. I had the American Pork Ribs but next time we will have the Murray's Feast. A great selection of local Barossa wines which does real justice to the local area. I gave the the Tasting Paddle a go with a choice of sixteen beers.

However, while I generally let a grumpy bartender have his bad day (we all have one), I generally do get a little put off people who get defensive after the get your order mixed up (as well as spending time doing other things on a quiet day despite standing at the bar for five minutes waiting to be served). This was a shame because I quite liked the pub it self. There were two nice beer gardens, a Fat Yak craft beer bar, and some cool street art on the outside toilet block. The pub itself is also in one of Gawler's historic buildings, however, despite all of that, I don't see myself coming back here again.

The prices were that of a typical pub ($18.50 for a chicken schnitzel, et cetera) and the food was absolutely fantastic. My partner and I both had chicken parmigianas with chips and well, I got vegetables instead of salad and he got salad. My only thing is that it is kinda short-staffed, but honestly, the food was that good, I didn't even really care. I'd go here again, and I'd bring my family too. Thanks for making my 6 month anniversary dinner with my partner a great experience.

There are quite often events or live music of some kind on weekends. The bar area is fairly small but it's cozy and fun. The outside area is big and great for events etc. We had boo's christening after party in the outside area. They set up big tables for us and we filled the area. While they are happy to change items on the menu to fit it would be great if they could work on adding more items to the menu that are vegetarian. Food and drink are reasonable priced. Some of my friends did complain that service was a bit grumpy and rude (but probably the large amount of people we had in our party contributed to that) which was a bit embarrassing for us as we had gone on about how friendly they are. On other times when we have gone for tea etc they are lovely and friendly.
