Notice sign and intact male pug dog...ugh.
Parker S.

Been coming here for a few months now and have mixed feelings. It's pretty much your average dog park, nothing crazy. There's definitely some usuals here along with a mixed crowd. I hadn't had any issues coming here until today. There's a large sign that clearly states "Intact Dog and/or Aggressive Dogs older than 6 months Prohibited" and another sign "Smoke-free, no food inside dog park" in all caps. Well, today there wasn't just one intact male dog but two, definitely over the age of 6 months. Both who were wandering around and humping other dogs and then the two were just humping each other and became aggressive. Ugh. Along with the owner of one sitting on bench, eating something while his dog took a crap, in which he presumed not to notice and did nothing. I prefer Sebastopol's dog park at Ragle Park and will go there over this one everyday, now or drive to Santa Rosa or Petaluma if needed, unfortunately. People, there are rules for reasons, please respect that.

Positives: Full fenced. High flow water (surprised the unhoused aren't using it to bathe). Multiple…read morebenches. Some shade. Some grass. Enough room for some running, would be best for multiple dogs to play- aka don't go solo for fetch. Easy parking. Kiosk and plaques are a nice touch. Has a cool seating area outside the gate. Needs improvement: Existing fence is a bit short for larger dogs or pups with hops. One of the entrances isn't a double door system, so pups might get out. Despite the sign, there was lots of dog poop left by previous visitors - can tell the locals don't care for their park. Benches too close to the fence, easy for untrained pup to escape. Needs more grass and some weeding. Too small for long sprint fetch. Semi sketchy neighborhood. Kiosk signs need to be updated. Needs permanent garbage cans, oddly had residential style ones.

We were driving from Humboldt county to Monterey and stopped there so Kix could stretch her legs and pee. She had been super healthy and happy all week. After stopping here she seemed weak and disoriented. Had trouble walking. Started vomiting, peeing herself and refused to eat but kept trying to drink water. As we drove her to a 24 hr vet she died. There were a lot of homeless around. The vet said she was either poisoned or ate some drugs left on the ground. Stay away!

They have a bathroom near the parking lot that they keep clean. There are several different trails that you can take and some that connect to Jack London Park. We hiked the Bennett Valley Overlook Trail, which is a 3.7 mile out and back trail. Dogs are not allowed on this particular trail so you will have to leave your four legged friends home if you decide to hike this trail. The overlook has stunning views. There are two picnic tables if you want to pack a lunch/picnic and enjoy the views for longer. Most of the trail is not shaded so something to consider and bringing a hat may come in handy for this reason and wearing sunscreen on sunny days. Also wear hiking shoes and bring water to stay hydrated along the way. We enjoyed our hike and the views and look forward to hiking some of the other hiking trails soon!
