Ted, the owner, is a very honest and upright mechanic. If you can get a slot, you'll be treated fairly and honestly!

It was a great shop prior to being bought out by William Wells. The mechanics don't quite seem to…read moreknow what they are doing. I went a few months ago and got a $300 quote for a muffler delete. Went next door and got it done for $100. More recently, my car wouldn't start and was thought to be starter related. They charged nearly $150 for diagnostic and then another $80 for parts and labor. And it wasn't the problem. I then figured out the issue (a shift lever position issue)and called them to let them know and ask about a refund for the diagnostic beings they got it completely wrong. I was told that I didn't leave the far long enough for a full diagnostic and there was nothing they can do. So if you need a tire fixed and want to deal with nice people. This is your place. If you need some more serious work done, enter at your own risk.

I had a broken exhaust hanger when working on my own car, but I didn't have welding equipment. Needed the car for a weekend trip to Biloxi. A coworker suggested this place, next to the well-known United Deli. There wasn't much of a parking lot, just a bunch of cars. Just found a spot and parked. When I went into front office, there wasn't anyone in the counter, but a guy came in from outside that I saw earlier to see what I needed done. He just went up to me and got straight up to the issue I had. Our conversation wasn't done behind a desk or service counter, but we were both standing in the middle of the room conversing like friends already. This was the same with the mechanic/welder, very knowledgeable and quick. These guys are straight-shooters with no BS, which I appreciated very much. Compared to even the better shops in Seattle, I was very impressed that I received very warm and personable service. The customers were fun to talk to. Despite it looking busy, and most of their stalls full when I arrived, they were able to get me in and out in less than 20 minutes. The shop does other services, but I have no direct dealing with those. When I moved to this state, I was mocked lightly as Washington was leaps and bounds better. Although miss the scenery and environment of the NW, the people and personality in Mississippi make up for it, and this shop has exemplified this example.

After 3 weeks of no contact with them, I learn that they are still working on the car. They managed to fix the fuel gauge. Take apart my trunk latch and fix it and fix my air conditioner. I ended up with an almost $2000 bill. Not only did I not ask for my air conditioner to be fixed, it isn't. I specifically didn't want it worked on because I live in Hawaii and obviously can't take the car back to Dolan's to re-fix the air. The Air conditioner STILL DOESN'T WORK. To make matters worse, they obviously didn't inspect the car because my brake lights don't work and the battery won't hold a charge. I can't believe they had my car for almost two months. I am out two thousand dollars and I have a car that isn't safe and doesn't run. Thanks a lot.

A long time ago a man decided to buy a Volkswagen Golf. This man lived in Germany, where Volkswagen…read morerepair is taught in primary school, and serves as a requirement to graduate. Although this man bought his Golf with US specifications, he came to take for granted the ease of getting his automobile worked on. So imagine his culture shock finding out that local mechanics closed their doors to BMWs, Mercedes, VWs and Audis. Not with a 10 foot pole. But at the recommendation of my first choice in mechanics, Dolan's garage was mentioned. So deciding that a drive from Columbus to Caledonia was much more preferable to a dealer in Birmingham (thanks Royal Automotive, for never answering my e-mails) it was decided to let somebody and their local garage work on my car. And boy was I pleasantly surprised with the result. Even from the first phone call, Jimmy at Dolan's Garage just naturally inspired confidence in his knowledge of foreign cars. He answered my questions and reassured me that he could not only look at my car that next morning, but fix the laundry list of items I had asked to be looked at. Jimmy worked efficiently too, having my vehicle ready by the afternoon. When he handed the keys back, he even provided a print-out of my on-board computer and was willing to explain the results. We chatted about my car and he gave me useful and helpful information, explained with visuals everything he did, and jokingly chuckled that he "just went ahead and fixed" the issue with my hood latch I didn't even talk to him about. What a guy. So far I'm loving the service I've gotten from Dolan's. The elephant in the room is that this place might not be the best looking of all shops I've been to, but damn if they didn't do great work. Best of all, the price was reasonable. I'm already positive I'll be coming back.
