A place I would often take visitors to our great city and a spot I still swing by whenever I'm home. The canal aka Garrison Place was originally a dank and dark alley (Garrison Alley) that transformed with the Cultural District coming into fruition. The LED art installation wasn't unveiled until 2018 but is still considered a vital and iconic piece of Pittsburgh art & history. The idea of the artwork is to mimic swimming under water. The lights change colors depending on weather. The animated waves also shift & change around the weather. If you're visiting Pittsburgh, be sure to check it out (after the sun goes down) in the 900 block of Liberty.

We visited at the start of the fall display which was transitioning from the Alice in Wonderland theme display and, as usual, everything was just amazing to see. We visited on a weekday morning and we're happy that it was not crowded and we could take our time. Beware the cafe which offers very friendly service for very expensive refreshments. We spent $15 for three 12-ounce cans of tea. If you have a refillable water bottle, bring that and throw some ice in it. Even when it's cool outside, it's still hot in the greenhouses so you'll probably want something cold to drink.

My only wish is that they had incorporated the Alice in Wonderland theme throughout more of the conservatory because I would have loved to see even more of it. But overall, it was such a beautiful and relaxing place to explore. Definitely recommend stopping here if you're in Pittsburgh! l And you definitely have to hit the gift shop

A great ballplayer and an even greater human, Roberto was known for charity work and died in a plane crash on a humanitarian mission to Nicaragua shortly after takeoff from his native Puerto Rico. This statue was a popular spot for pictures when my father and I visited. A man in a shirt indicating he was a Pirates employee was taking a photo of a group of young men when we walked up so I asked if he could do the same for us. He gladly obliged. I asked if he was stationed there just for that. He said no, but he'd already helped with several groups. I offered him a buck or two but he said he was good. We received great hospitality the whole stay but I'd expect nothing less from the hometown of the late Mr. Rogers. He has a statue as well but unfortunately we never made it over to that one.
