Today my mom and I had our first appointment with Dr. Dalco. It was one of the worst dental…read moreexperiences we've ever had. We booked after checking reviews and confirming our insurance was accepted. We arrived on time and started our paperwork when they took us in. The beginning was great the staff who took our X-rays was very nice, gentle, and went above and beyond to make us comfortable. He was especially patient with my mom, whose first language is not English. The experience went downhill during the rest of the visit. While waiting for the dentist, we were put in separate consult rooms to finish consent forms. I was able to finish mine, but my mom needed more time. The dental hygienist, Effie, continually raised her voice at my mom as if she were a child, pressuring her to finish signing. I could hear all of this couple of rooms down. That attitude continued with both of us. My cleaning was the most painful I've ever had. My gums and teeth hurt severely from the sensitivity and aggressive scraping. I expected some discomfort, but not this much pain and bleeding. Throughout it, she was giving me instructions in a condescending tone, as if I were a child, while I was in obvious pain. During the cleaning, water and blood ran down my neck and splashed on my face and clothes. She would wipe it, but only after it had already reached my clothes. When she finished, she just handed me a cup of Listerine and walked out. She did not check-in, no aftercare instructions about when I could eat or what to avoid. She also told me to floss and then immediately asked if I even knew what flossing was. It was highly unprofessional and rude. Even if she was having a bad day, she should not be treating with patients like that. Neither my mom nor I were ever disrespectful to her. No one on staff intervened despite her raising her voice at my mom multiple times. Dr. Dalco herself only did a quick, couple-minute check-up, which was fine, and the X-ray staff was wonderful which is why this is not a one-star review. However, we will not be returning. No one deserves to be treated like that.

Unfortunately, there is one person in the office who needs an attitude check. As a patient/customer who doesn't file insurance claims we expect to be treated in a courteous and polite manner when calling to inquire about our claims being covered. But Zeresha is on some kind of power trip, and likes to point the blame of being confused and needing some clarity back onto the patient. Zeresha's quick responses to our questions were inaccurate and never actually cleared up any confusion. Once she put Jennifer on the phone, the confusion was cleared up right away. Zeresha has no interest in helping and explaining anything. Not sure what the Doctor sees in her as she has no skills when it comes to speaking with a patient. I cannot imagine if she had to deal with someone with equal bad attitude.

When I scheduled the appointment over a week ago, I was never advised of this lunch hour and that I needed to come right at 2 PM. I wouldn't have pulled my son from school as early as I did had I known being early was frowned upon. So fine, we went back outside and sat in our car. Upon returning, she began to check us in and told us we needed to wear masks. In a periodontist office. Staff should advise patients of this on the phone when they schedule so they can make a determination if they want to comply with the office's insanity or not. I chose my freedom and immediately left. Based upon their requiring patients to wear masks, I cannot in good conscience recommend this practice. Wear a mask if you must but don't force others to follow your lunacy.
