I say this with some confidence as I am a retired pediatric dentist. His care is of the highest quality - I have had quite a few restorations done. He is kind, gentle and so nice to everyone. His staff is wonderful - nice, professional, helpful, gentle and fun. I highly recommend his office to everyone looking for the best dental care. Linda R.

During my initial consultation, Dr. Collins repeatedly asked why I was there if I already had a dentist. I explained multiple times that I wanted someone focused on cosmetic work because aesthetics were important to me, but she continued questioning me in a way that felt dismissive and strange. Unfortunately, the actual dental work reflected the same experience. I had bonding done, and one tooth was shaped incorrectly and angled downward instead of following the natural upward curve of a smile. The other bonded tooth had a rough surface texture that didn't feel properly finished. I also had a crown done, and when the permanent crown came back, the shade was dramatically darker than my surrounding teeth. It was noticeable enough that I immediately raised concerns. Since I had already waited the standard two weeks in a temporary crown, I asked whether the remake could be expedited. I was told yes, but that didn't happen. It has now been about a month in a temporary crown for what should have been a two-week process. What was most frustrating was the response to my concerns. When I explained that my bite felt off and I could no longer properly bring my top and bottom teeth together to bite things normally, Dr. Collins dismissed it and told me that I "shouldn't need to do that." Regardless of the example I used, the point was that my bite no longer felt functional or natural. Instead of feeling heard, I felt brushed off. At this point, the experience has been disappointing both cosmetically and professionally. I'm updating this review after today's appointment depending on whether the replacement crown is finally correct. ***Updating my review after today's appointment because the situation became significantly worse. First, I realized after arriving that I had accidentally written the wrong dentist's name in my original review. The dentist I actually saw was Dr. Collins. When I noticed her name on her jacket, I clarified that I wanted to correct the review so the right provider was identified. She asked if I had a good experience, and I honestly told her no. She then asked what my experience was, and I offered to show her the written review on my phone since I had already documented everything in detail. Her response was, "Oh wow, I'm not reading all that." Then she asked me again to explain my experience verbally after dismissing what I had already prepared. After that, I laid back in the chair and she started tugging on my temporary crown for quite a while. Before this, they had already shown me the replacement crown and had me compare the color against my teeth. I said it looked okay to me and asked for her professional opinion since she is the dentist. She agreed it looked fine. Then suddenly, after already handling my tooth, she asked, "Are you sure you want me to put this crown on?" I was completely confused because I had taken time off work, confirmed earlier that morning that the crown was ready, and drove out there specifically for this appointment after already waiting a month in a temporary crown that was only supposed to be on for about two weeks. At that point she said she was refusing to place the crown. I became frustrated and did raise my voice and curse, because I genuinely could not understand why I was being denied treatment after everything that had already happened. We went to the front desk area where I began recording the interaction for my records. During the conversation, Dr. Collins reached toward my phone and stopped the recording. I was initially told they would still complete the procedure, so I sat back down and waited again. About 10 minutes later, another staff member came in and informed me that Dr. Collins refused to do the crown placement and that I needed to leave. The front desk employee explained that because the service was never completed, they would not bill my insurance and would stop the claim from processing. I also requested written documentation of what occurred for my records. What bothered me most was that even after refusing treatment, Dr. Collins came back over while I was speaking privately with the front desk employee and said, "It's not my fault your tooth came out a different shade." At that point I explained that the shade mismatch was only one of several issues I experienced throughout this process. So now I am left with a temporary crown that has been in place for about a month, after it was already tugged and loosened during this visit, and I now have to figure out how to start over and find another dentist to complete the work properly. The only positive part of this experience was the front desk staff member who remained patient, calm, and compassionate throughout an extremely stressful situation.

This review is long overdue, but hopefully it helps individuals when reviewing and considering Dr…read more Bannai for dentistry. When I moved to the Granite Bay area, I visited Dr. Bannai for the first time as I was interested in finding a dentist that was closer to where I reside. The office was clean, the staff was friendly, and my first impression was good. During my exam, Dr. Bannai stressed to me that I needed multiple crowns -- one of them "urgent." He provided me a "treatment plan" that was extremely stressful and expensive. I've always been meticulous about my dental health throughout my life, as well as visiting my previous dentist every six months, and I've never been told I needed crowns prior. This visit with Dr. Bannai really concerned me as I thought something was seriously wrong with my teeth all of a sudden. I decided to go back to my previous dentist for a second opinion. After reviewing Dr. Bannai's treatment plan as well as a full exam, my previous dentist laughed and mentioned it appears Dr. Bannai needs a new boat and did not agree whatsoever with his "treatment plan". I was blown away to hear this, but also relieved that I did not need all this work done. I later returned to Dr. Bannai's office for a separate appointment that I had booked previously for picking up my night guards. He of course asked me if I had booked an appointment to get the "urgent" crown taken care of. I politely mentioned that I visited my previous dentist and showed him the treatment plan, and he mentioned that he did not agree with the need for the urgent crown or multiple crowns in the near future currently. Dr. Bannai immediately became defensive and rude, and shortly after, I was handed a letter dismissing me from the practice and noting to visit one of his "buddies" if I wanted to see another dentist in the area. Honestly, I would never continue to see him for dentistry in the future due to this experience anyhow, just wanted to pick up my night-guards that I paid for. I left this office feeling shocked and disappointed. I believe patients should feel comfortable seeking second opinions without fear of being treated unprofessionally or dismissed. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here. Also, just to note, it's been 7 years since this experience and no crowns and no issues with my teeth to date. Beware of Dr. Bannais aggressive and inappropriate plans for drilling away at teeth that may not be necessary.

No one calls from the office anymore and only uses texts - it came to the point that my daughters' dental appointments were pushed out OVER A YEAR and then canceled appointment via miscommunication on text - stating I did not respond and no one bothered to call for clarification. When I called the wife owner tried to say the girls would not be seen for another SEVEN months. I used to love this dentist and his family practice but over the years the quality and attention to detail has gone way down and when I tried to talk to the owner's wife I was just told to go elsewhere instead of remedying the situation. It is extremely disappointing when we have worked with this family since 2007.

I have a lot of fear and trauma with the dentist which I informed all the staff of. They rushed through the process and left me in so much pain I wanted to run. They informed me I required 2 root canals and 4 other cavities that needed filled. I was a last minute appointment since I was trying to change dentists but I cracked a tooth and needed to get in somewhere. It was the worst experience ever. Female dentist was rude and dismissive. The 2 assistants were rushing when I was the only one there and they kept pushing xray tabs in my mouth until I was crying and my mouth was bruised and bleeding. I called my old dentist and they got me in the next day. Without telling them what happened they looked at my teeth and said there was just the cracked tooth that needed to be filled. To make it worse I got a breakdown bill from medical a few months later and they had tried to charge my insurance on things they didn't even do like fluoride, a cleaning, and a tobacco consult??? All they did was imaging, look at my teeth for 5min, and a consult on next steps. I didnt want to post anything because I thought maybe I was an outlier. But I got a call from them saying they needed to reschedule an appointment I never made. They never said they company they were calling from just that it was a dental exam. I hope they made major changes in how they treat patients and in honest billing procedures.
