I have been a very happy patient of Dr. Ruani Gunawardane since 2009. Following a stroke in 2009,…read moreI was referred to "Dr. G" by my primary care physician, I was away in Florida when the stroke occurred, so I was amazed when Dr. G. assured me that she would find the cause of the stroke (I had doubts, after all, 8 days had passed already)! Dr. G. ordered a TEE test and determined the stroke was to to a PFO (a small bypass hole in my heart that had not closed since birth and allowed a small clot to enter my brain). Following her direction, I was sent to a surgeon who was able to close the PFO with a device, called an Amplatzer, in order to prevent a clot from causing another stroke. Since that time, I have had routine follow-up appointments to monitor my progress to recovery. Dr.G is very popular, but her time and advice has made my life to recovery very happy.

My Citicard statement clearly shows two separate charges, but the office insisted they only received one and refused to acknowledge the second. I'm now disputing the charge with my bank. Patients deserve transparency and a billing system that doesn't double-charge. Check your statements carefully if you visit here.

Earlier this year in January of 2020 I woke up with the most debilitating pain in my head. I…read morethought it may be a migraine because of the symptoms I endured (headache, sensitivity to light and sound, etc.) It was at the point that I went to the ER twice in one week. I had no relief and was distraught and hopeless. After a week of pain, I knew a migraine would not last this long and my primary doctor referred me to Dr.G. From the moment I walked in the door at the Center for Brain & Neuro Care I was greeted with joy and felt hopeful. After doctors saying over and over again it is a migraine and would go away, Dr. G actually listened and asked the right questions. She recognized symptoms that other doctors had not considered, and on the spot predicted my diagnosis before any of the scans/procedures revealed information. I had what is known as a spinal headache as a result of a spontaneous CSF leak that occurred while lifting weights. Dr. G recognized the symptoms such as : pain increased while sitting up, pain between shoulder blades, vertigo, and tinnitus. Within minutes of meeting Dr.G, I knew I could trust her and I finally felt heard. Dr. G genuinely cares about her patience and I was able to build relationships with her and her staff that gave me the hope and encouragement I needed to get better. Due to the rarity/severity of my condition, it has been a long road to full recovery. However, here I am 8 months later feeling 100% back to normal. I continue to feel the support and love from the staff and will miss getting to see them on a monthly basis. Thank you Dr. G, Michael, Jessica, and Courtney for all you have done for me. You guys have made such an impact on my life and I am grateful, and certain, I would not have gotten through it without you!

Unorganized, unprofessional office staff that have poor communications ability, no professionalism…read moreand compassion towards patients. My first visit a NEW patient and their family exited from an appointment screaming that they will NEVER COME BACK!" My appointment time as 2 pm, I arrived at 1:45 pm. I wasn't called back to be seen until 3:30. My entire appointment was over 2 hours. MEDICAL ERRORS. A medical assistant/Scribe named Anik Saha, entered the exam room with this statement..."So you have MS." As though I was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy (MS). I was MORTIFIED because I do not have MS, nor been diagnosed with it!!!!!! I proceeded to tell him I do not have MS and he had the audacity to debate me, saying "you don't know you have MS?" FINALLY, he looked at the computer screen and recognized that I am not the patient that has MS that was supposed to be placed in the exam room I was in. This incident was EGREGIOUS, HORRIFIC and as I recount it, I find it UNBELIEVABLE and it has left me traumatized. However, Dr. G tried her best to pacify the incident by telling me this person is very bright and completed a 4 year medical program in 3 years and was highly recommended. She said that today was his first day on the job. My response was, "While he might be book smart, what he just did by not following protocol and his engagement with me afterward, and lack of a sincere apology is a liability to her practice. She said, she will "give him a strong reprimand but later said, she may make his first day his last day." Today, May 14th, I had a 9:30 am appointment her office staff messed up the time and had it down for 2:00 pm. My appointment date and time is on a printed sheet with other appointments but the appointment today that they messed up was handwritten by the appointment scheduler. I arrived at 9 am for my 9:30 am appointment. The office staff were rude and in fact lied in my face that they told me the appointment was changed. They casually asked if I could come back at 2pm. I said NO, I am not returning and cancel any other appointments you have for me! Mind you, before this happened I overheard another patient upset because they messed up her appointment too. Needless to say, while Dr. G has good credentials as a Neurologist, the office staff that represents her really is a discredit to her entire practice. They are unprofessional, have attitudes and lie. Furthermore, the medical assistant that made the egregious mistake of telling me I am an MS patient and arguing with me is still employed with her practice. I saw him this morning. This alone diminished my confidence that Dr. G. understands the gravity of the situation that happened nor a person of her word or a physician I can trust with my medical care. Dr. G is notorious for making too many appointments and the standard for this practice appears to be longggggggggggggg patient waits and inadequate treatment by her staff. I now have to start over again to find a competent Neurologists office with a professional staff. The degree of mishandling and errors that exist with this practice is not worth the energy, time nor risk for any patient.
