Once upon a time, this may have been a good shop. By the looks of, and selection of, cigars in the back, that time was probably 15 years ago. Clearly, the moving of trendier bars and stores into Davis has passed by Robbins.
I was too lazy to go to Harvard Square for cigars, so I decided to try this store out instead, and the selection at the back seemed promising. Some big, recognizable names, like Montecristo, Macanudo, Romeo y Julieta, and others are stocked at the back. However, these cigars are stored wildly poorly. They are kept under halogen lights, in DISPLAY CASES! NOT HUMIDORS!!!! I regret not checking the quality of them while there, because I would never have left the store with them had I given them a good inspection. Wrappers were bleached by the harsh light, the cigars were dry, to the point that it was crunchy even when handled gently, and after getting home and consulting my cigar journal, learned that these particular cigars haven't been made in years. It makes sense that the salesmen wouldn't let me reach into the cases and get them myself, as he was hiding the shoddy quality of their merchandise.
To recap: Robbins sells cigars that have been stored in uncontrolled cases for close to a decade. Save your money. Go to the tobacco store in Harvard Square, or Cigar Masters by Copley, where they actually have well-treated cigars. read more
