The layout of the store makes it easy to move around and find what you are looking for without getting overwhelmed by the selections. Elli's friendly and welcoming nature makes you want to stay just for conversation. Everytime I go in there I feel as if I never left the neighborhood. I have learned so much from her and always love her selections and recommendations. Since I found her I have only had 2 bottles of wine that I did not like for myself, but were loved by my guests when I served them. So no loss for either. She has recommended wine for a wine tasting I did 10 years ago and friends still ask about those wine. I make sure to tell friends about Elli's Wine cellar. Her knowledge about wines and the grapes that make them is immeasurable to me and I am so glad I met her. I no longer live in Weymouth but I try to get in there to see her (and buy wine) when I can. I never leave with less than 2 boxes and as I have already stated never disappointed. Life has kept me away in recent years but I am making a trip to see Elli soon. Hopefully I will leave with enough to hold me over until the next time I have a gap in my busy schedule to make the trip to Weymouth. I would love to catch up, say hello, enjoy the conversation, gain more knowledge about my choices and of course to leave with my regular purchase of the best wines I have ever purchased anywhere. This place is one of those gems you want to keep for yourself and share with everyone all at the same time!

In the local parlance of the greater Boston area (and some other parts of New England), liquor stores are called package stores. If you're really a local you'll call it a "packy" as in "I'm going to the packy to buy some beah". (Read: "beer" but drop that last "r" and make the word two syllables). And indeed this is a "packy" in a good way; a place where you'd feel comfortable dropping in and finding friendly service with someone who might just remember what it is you like. We stopped in as we strolled down Front Street which is the main shopping drag in Scituate. It's a compact store but it has most of what anyone might be looking for. I was pleasantly surprised to find a white wine called Ballet of Angels produced by the Sharpe Hill Vineyard in Pomfret Connecticut. This is a winery we've had the pleasure of visiting. They make a number of wines that are quite delicious. It's not always easy to find their wines though. So of course I snapped up a couple of bottles while here. While the wine selection isn't enormous, there are enough selections that the average wine drinker would be able to find a few interesting bottles to take home. I appreciated that as I was making my purchase, the woman at the counter told me that she had recently tried the wine I was buying and how much she liked it. It's nice to be in a liquor shop where there is someone who makes a point of knowing something about what is being sold. I've grown weary of the liquor "supermarkets" where in general the staff is clueless and who just man the registers to ring up sales. The prices on standard items are a buck or two more than you'd find in the larger chain liquor stores but for the attentive service and being able to support a local business, I'm in.

They are exceptional individuals and I have the best time when dealing with them! You can judge a lot about a business by the way that they treat their vendors. You imagine that most businesses provide good customer service, but I would argue that the true test of great business people are how they treat the people that they don't necessarily have to "be nice to" (like vendors). In this regard, Local Vines and Gourmet Wine Shop is absolutely one of my most favorite to work with because of their courteousness, intelligence, and speedy response to my requests! I have zero doubt that they are even better with their customers which means that you will have a stellar time each and every time you visit!

I went into there and was casually looking at the bottles, not knowing what the fuck I was looking at, just trying to base how good a wine is by price. So I go to pick up a bottle and I knock another bottle over with my huge puffy coat. Crap. There was another woman standing nearby and I thought she was a customer, but her lack of jacket didn't seem to tip me off. I kind of gave her a little "shhh. This is just between you me and the wall of wine" sort of look. She loudly yells "Walter! We need a clean up by the wine bottles." Walter or whatever the fuck his name is comes with his mop in like 3 seconds, like he's been waiting for this moment and looks and says "This is a TWENTY dollar bottle of wine! TWENTY DOLLARS!" And I'm like "Well, I don't drop the cheap stuff. heh heh." *crickets chirping* So I buy a $30 bottle of wine to compensate for the bottle because I was going to try to find something $10 worth [Nothing but the best!] and I get carded. Crap. No ID. Oh shit! I was at the airport yesterday and I think I had it in my back pocket when we went through check-in. "Uhmmmm...I don't have my ID, but I have my Tufts Health card that has my birth date on it and here's my college ID from the late 90s with me with bleached hair so obviously, I'm old enough." She let me buy the bottle. I went home, uncorked and the only food I could make were instant potatoes and spinach-filled faux nuggets. Classy. So I got a replacement ID a week or so later and then a week after that, I'm taking all of my clothes off of this chair to do laundry [I'm kind of a slob] and out plops my ID in all it's over-21-ness. So if you look like me and are under 21, let me know. We'll discuss a price.
