Reading about the dry cut method previously, I thought it might be a lifeline for this pandemic mane. When I called for an appointment, Joan was so helpful, guiding me to ensure success on that first visit. I was reminded that wearing a mask in the salon is required. On entering this beautiful refuge, I was transported to a very different world from the one we are experiencing now. The decor is so soothing, as are the sounds from the fountain. Nothing has been overlooked. Even the stylists' work stations are gorgeous with beautifully finished slabs of wood. The mirrors are surrounded by bamboo-like metal work with ginger leaves. I met stylist Lindsey and we discussed a course of action. She was looking at a head that needed work before the lockdown in March. This was pandemic hair at its worst. Long story short: After flat ironing, Ashley and her magic scissors snipped away. And snipped. Soft jazz music and the fountain in the background provided soothing audio. And Ashley continued to snip. Off to another station for a wash and condition and -- wait for it! -- a head and neck massage. Heavenly. Returning to Ashley's cutting station, she completed the styling with a few more snips here & there, and provided some terrific tips on home care and upkeep. I shouldn't need any salon maintenance for three months. Throughout the two hours, we chatted. Joan popped by to introduce herself. Davide, the owner, indulged my vanity as I reminisced about Tokyo from many decades ago. At the end, I felt like a butterfly emerging from a cocoon, with a terrific styling that I have only dreamed of in the past. And a week later, using my unskilled hands, I am still thrilled. Dry cut is a long process. However, in the right hands, it is so worth it. And DACHI provides that, together with a tranquil environment for its clientele to luxuriate in. Enjoy!

I filled out their long, detailed form online about my consult. Jamie approved the consult via email. I drive 40 mins there to see Jamie just to be told by her that I didn't need a consult and that she would do my hair, but blonding is not her expertise and that someone else would do blonding better than her. I told her that she was recommended via email so I was confused. And yes, I did say I wanted to go blonde in the online form and that my hair was black. They do not communicate well with each other there or maybe Jamie was not having a good day. I will not try to go back there.

This was my first time having Patti M "master stylist" as my stylist. She was prompt for my…read moreappointment. Firstly she was very rough brushing out my dry hair. I feel like it's pretty much commonly known that when brushing tangled hair to grab above the spot you're brushing to prevent hurting the client, ripping out hair unnecessarily, and damaging the hair. I think she didn't want to take the time to clip up a couple of sections so she could brush it the right way. So she held up one section of hair with one hand and then roughly brushed with the other hand. I told her it was hurting and she gentled up. She washed my hair perfectly fine. No issues. When she was partially through cutting my hair, I was mentioning how I want my bangs cut where when they were blow dried that they did the swoop back (kind of like curtain bangs) and she stops me mid sentence and says "wait you don't think I'm going to blow dry your hair smooth right? Cause I don't have time for that. Your hair is too long and would take too long." I was a little surprised but mentioned that the website said the cut came with a blow dry and style. She said yes it does but that I'm not the typical client and they don't assume someone has hair as long as me. My hair is mid back length, when yes is longer than some but isn't extremely out of the norm. Anyway she agreed that the website says it includes a blow dry and she would blow dry it, just not "smooth it out". I'm not really a controversial person and I do understand that she might have had other clients, so I said sure that's fine any type of blow dry you have time for is fine. Then at the end she left my hair about 60% dry with some slight diffusing as her version of styling. Still very wet. So I walked out of the salon after paying for a $75 haircut, style, and blow dry in the middle of winter and 5 months pregnant with my hair still very wet and not styled at all. Epic fail. This was my first time at this salon. The above review for Patti M reflects on the business as a whole too. The website specifically mentions that the cut at this salon includes a blow dry and style (which for $75 seems pretty fair). The website also specifically mentioned that " Throughout your service you may have one of our assistants help with Shampooing, treatments, finishing and small color applications." Indicating that at the very least, an assistant should have been available to finish up the blow drying process (which I have had at other salons). There were 3 other individuals working at the salon at the time of my appointment and one of them even specifically mentioned being "on the clock", when Patti announced that she wouldn't be able to finish drying my hair no one else offered to assist. I have never in my life walked out of a salon with wet hair, let alone for $75. I won't be returning. This also makes me understand why this salon had same day appointments when every other salon in Culpeper and Warrenton were booked. I will make sure I book ahead of time at another salon so I can actually have my hair finished.
