Alex the mechanic that worked on my suv I wanted to send a quick note to thank you for the wonderful service on my car recently. After you fixed it, the car has been running so smoothly--it honestly feels as great as when I first got it back in 2022! I truly appreciate your generosity in sharing tips and helping me prioritize what needed to be fixed right away, especially while keeping my budget in mind. Your customer service is on point, and coming to your shop really feels like home. I will definitely be recommending you to everyone looking for a reliable, fair mechanic for regular maintenance. Thanks again for everything! read more

Full 5 stars recommended Alex is great! Fair prices and amazing services!!! Quick and easy

If you're looking for a mechanic who actually knows what he's doing (a rare breed these days), go see Alex at Rob Baker's Garage. This man is the real deal. He's knowledgeable, fair, and genuinely a wonderful human being. He diagnosed my car issues quickly, explained everything in plain English, and didn't try to upsell me on nonsense. He even went the extra mile to make sure I could get back on the road safely after a week of bus-hopping. You can tell he takes pride in his work and cares about his customers. Honest mechanics are hard to come by, but Alex is one of the few you can trust without hesitation. I'm grateful for the help, the fairness, and the kindness. Highly, HIGHLY recommend. Five stars isn't enough -- give the man a whole constellation. read more

I've lived in Millbrae for over 30 years and just now discovered this garage. Came in for a 15,000 mile check (required by my lease) and appreciated Alex's honest assessment and estimate. I feel this is a place I can trust not to overcharge me or do unnecessary repairs. Will be back with our other cars too! read more

For the twenty plus years I've lived in Millbrae Rob Bakers has been a place to get honest automotive advice. Liquid propane refills. Gas and U Haul trucks. Rob is seemingly always there and is always cheerful and helpful. Rob has never steered me wrong. I've even had him help me with last minute snow chains. The guy gets a lot done on that little corner !! read more

I recently made an appointment with Alex at Rob Bakers Garage for the third time in a row. I had made an appointment for an oil change and possibly a brake service. He physically inspected the oil and brakes, and then explained, "Wait until the oil light and the brake light go on. Give me a couple days to order the parts. A brake job takes a few hours, so plan to leave it all day." This is the third time he's assessed my car and not performed any UNNECESSARY services, not even the oil change for which I was prepared to pay. All of his time and expertise - complimentary without obligation whatsoever. Trust is essential to any decent business practice: I am a 60-year-old female lacking any knowledge of cars, except to drive them. I feel completely assured that Alex will not perform ANY unnecessary services. BTW, Alex was recommended by Professor Dave Hill, who taught Automative Technology at Skyline College for 40 years! That speaks for itself! read more

Excellent service , and very honest opinion. I recommend this place . They will work with you, and match other price read more

Came here just to get wiper blades changed because I'm that useless in 2021, and they were so helpful. It was no charge but I gave the guy a tip. Reading other reviews, I feel like I'll be coming back here to do regular service checks on my Mazda. Located inside the gas station across from Office Depot. read more

I came in needing to get my 04 Jetta serviced at 150k miles. The mechanic and co-owner of the shop, Murad, did a full inspection and gave an estimate of everything that I will eventually need to replace starting with the most high-risk. I already understand the importance of the parts but he was kind enough to tell me that not all of his recommendations were necessary to do at once. Needless to say I took his warnings seriously and had him work on the following: * Transmission fluid change * Coolant service * Ignition tune up (spark plugs and wires, throttle body service, air filter, thermostat) * Replaced intake manifold gasket * Replaced two tires (balancing and rotation) In the end, we went on a test drive together to assess all the changes. There were some hiccups with the transmission so we went back and he quickly formulated a professional solution. All-in-all nothing was half-assed. My car is running better than ever, and I have him to thank for making my driving experience safer and more reliable. I can trust bringing my car back here again. Murad and his parter and co-owner, Alex, are also drifter fanatics, so feel free to talk to them about their experiences. It was fun hearing about the events they went to and seeing how they customized their own cars. read more

I had blown spark plugs and Alex fixed it up. I absolutely loved how detailed he was in his explanation and his plan when I brought the car in. He didn't force any fixes on me or try to sell me anything more than I needed. Don't let the small store front fool you! This is a great spot to get your car fixed read more

Brought my car back to Alex for a routine oil change. All was done well and on schedule. He checked out my car as a courtesy and reported that everything else was ok. In other words, he went above and beyond and was honest about the condition of my car and didn't try to sell me anything. I completely trust Alex! read more

Hands down BEST experience, and not something most can say when it comes to the stress of fixing up your car! Alex is incredible, and one common thing in these reviews that caught my attention is his trustworthiness. Alex truly cares about the customer. Reached out to many other shops for price compare, but Alex was quick to reply and patient to answer all questions without feeling like you were being up-sold. I needed my brake pads, rotors, and a caliper replaced. Alex checked my guide pins and shared that my caliper actually did not need replacement. Saved huge dollars and the car is running smooth. No brainer to come to this shop in the future for all car needs!!! read more

What can I say about Alex T? He has the passion and is driven about his cars. He definitely take cares of them like if it was his own. He make sure as a customer, you understand what was the issue. For me, it is hard to find a good reliable mechanic plus someone you can trust since being a woman. That is hard to find. In my past, I rely on my dad for help in the bay area. BUT I have to find my own reliable mechanic. I will definitely have Alex look at any of my car issues or problems that needed to be fix. We need more mechanics like Alex T. Unfortunately, too many of them scam others. My car, I thought I needed just an oil change BUT turn out my brake pads was wearing down metal to metal on my rotor. I learned that since ever since I step on my brakes. I heard a scratching sound like two metal rubbing each other. He explained to me why only one side since the caliper piston was stuck. He was explaining to me what he was doing to solve it also. read more

Adding to all the positive reviews here - Alex is the real deal and can work on older vehicles like mine (1987)...he is extremely knowledgeable and friendly - I highly recommend him if you have any issues / need maintenance on your car. read more

Update: They saw my review and left me a voicemail saying I could still get my wiper blades lol I'll swing by if I can find time away from the frontlines, you guys are awesome, thank you!! read more

Always Helpful I've been going to Rob Baker's Garage for many, many years. Rob always took great care of my car and Alex has continued to provide that same excellent service. Today I called him because my headlight was out. He immediately ordered the part and installed the new lamp part while I waited. He is always so helpful and responsive read more

Great experience. I wanted a battery disconnect installed in my truck. Sent a request in via yelp on a Saturday. Alex responded right away. He had a couple questions and asked for photo of my battery cable setup. He said call on Monday. I came by instead. He saw me right away (I think he was eating lunch) He talked about best option. I was impressed by his knowledge and comfort level; battery disconnects are not an everyday item. Made an appointment for Saturday ; in And out For $30 (took only a few minutes) Honest, knowledgeable and friendly. read more

Awesome Garage I have taken both of my cars to Alex several times and the service is awesome. He is honest, trustworthy, very knowledgeable and does not try to take your money. This last visit I went in for an oil change and to get a new tire. He ordered the tire for me and didn't try to sell me the most expensive tire on the market. When I picked up my car, he said that he topped off all my fluids and made sure all the tires had the correct air pressure. I said "thank you" and he said "good seeing you". Now who says that? Alex does. if you ever need any work done on your car, you can trust Alex! read more

If you were scared of never finding a trustworthy efficient auto shop, look no further!! This privately owned shop is all one man, Alex, and he's a great one. In my whole time of ever owning a car I have never trusted even my dad's mechanic friend with all the seemingly overpriced car services and inadequate reasons to get so and so fixed... This place tells u real prices all upfront and discusses how much of a true priority each service is to get done. Got the 100 K check up on my car, and did all the necessary things to have it running healthy. My car is running so well after this and I will only come to this shop from now on in the Bay! read more

I took my old gmc camper van here and I was really impressed. I'm obviously nervous taking my little home on wheels to a shop but Alex helped my out and was very fast and honest with pricing. I was out of there in just a few hours. Thanks! read more

Great Job, As Always Alex at Rob Baker's Garage had to squeeze in a repair job for me when I heard a funny sound when I was in reverse. He diagnosed, ordered part, and repaired it quickly. My parents brought their car in because the radiator fan kept staying on for a long time after cutting off the engine. Rob checked and topped off the coolant. Rob charged my parents EIGHT DOLLARS for everything. (I didn't believe them either until I saw the receipt.) Much like Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, and unicorns, I still don't believe that Rob, the mythical Honest Mechanic, exists in real life. read more

I have been a customer of Rob Baker's for awhile and have always been treated very well with outstanding service. I have always felt that Rob and Alex look out for my best interest when it comes to vehicle maintenance and repairs. Down to Earth, Detail Oriented & Customer Service Mechanics I've been going to Rob Baker's Garage for years and cannot say enough great things about Rob and Alex (nicest and genuine guys ever). I have asked Alex to fix my Jeep with the weirdest issues and he researches (web searches, references, etc) until he gets to the root cause of the issue. He responds in record time, send pictures and details out his assessment. I have never got this level of service with any other mechanic (and don't even get me started about Putnam or dealerships). Awesome mechanics and would recommend them to anyone!! read more

I am a long term resident of Millbrae and have been taking my car for servicing years at many of the Franchise mechanics along El Camino. This week one company told me that I needed new shocks. I took my car to Rob Baker for another estimate . Alex, the owner checked my car and said my shocks were fine for now. The other company was just taking advantage of a woman and recommending services just to make a extra buck! I will be bringing my car here for all my future repairs. Honest, reliable and friendly service! read more

Had a nail in my tire. The guys took care of it in a jiffy. Will definitely bring my car in for service when it's needed.

My dashboard light wasn't working so I went to Rob Baker's Garage. Explained to Alex what's happening with my dashboard and also asked if he can see why my rear defroster wasn't working since I was there. I needed service ASAP because it not easy driving in the evening with no lights. Right away he knew what could be the problem but said he'd check everything out. The nice thing about this location is there's a shopping strip a block away with Trader Joe, restaurants and other small shops to check out while your vehicle is being service. Alex called me when the repairs were done. When I arrived he clearly explained what was done. I asked how much I owed him and when he told me I thought he was just kidding compared to other quotes I was given from other shops I stopped at before his. Wow, that just shows you how easily shops rip people off especially women. It's so NICE to know there's still a honest auto repairs garage out there. I highly recommend you go to this garage and see Alex. You will appreciate his professionalism and honesty. Thank you Alex. I will return and recommend your shop. read more

Alex does great work. I work in the plaza next door so when I need my oil changed I drop my car off in the morning, tell him to take his time and when he's done he parks my car by my door and brings me my keys. Now is that excellent service or what? Trustworthy guy, he doesn't try and upsell you or suggest services that you dont actually need like some mechanics do. Fair prices as well. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone looking to get work done on their car! read more

Wonderful service. Got my battery replaced and was worried I needed more service but Alex said everything else looked just great.

Came here last year to get my spark plugs changed on my 2012 Mazda 3. The mechanic did a great job. I'll come back if I need anything done. Thanks guys. read more

The garage has always been super helpful for getting my car and especially my tires back in good shape. The other week I punctured my tires twice and both times they were able to provide speedy service, still able to plug tires too despite most shops trying to overcharge for a patch. The diagnostic is cheap but won't save you much money when you need to have another diagnostic done by a more competent shop. In my case, they told me I'd need to spend thousands of dollars to fix the problem... but the shop down the street was able to fix it for a few hundred dollars! I'll take the repair that costs 5% of the other, thanks. If you want an outlandish quote and diagnostic, go here. read more
