OK, so now on to the good stuff... We hail from the southwestern USA... only a few hundred kms from the Mexican border. Mexican cuisine and Mexican culture are more a part of where we live than American. We've got Mexican food everywhere - Mexican street food, fast food, causal food, fine dining - in short I am sure I will be the most qualified connoisseur of Mexican cuisine to ever leave a review for the Headless Mexican. A Regrettable Experience at McDonald's…read more A visit to the McDonald's on Memorial Ave has left much to be desired. The moment I stepped inside, it was clear that the level of service wasn't up to standard. The first problem arose at the ordering counter, where it was like they didn't give a damn or cared to take care of customers. It seemed to be as if my being there was a nuisance for them. Although the service lacked oomph, I pushed ahead with my order because I hoped that there'd be a surprise waiting for me on the platter. Unfortunately, this was not to be. The company's character would be the inedible food. The fries were lukewarm and soggywhich certainly was a far cry from the hot, crisp standard I've come to expect of other golden arches. The burger was no better, smashed together and rather lifeless. Another problem plaguing this McDonald's was cleanliness. Tables were abandoned to patrons past, covered with crumbs and spills. The overall hygiene of the dining area was suspect, and I have my doubts about how clean the kitchen or food preparation areas were. Also, the restroom was hardly attractive. It was dirty, there were bad odors and visible dirt; it needed immediate attention. Those conditions are something a fast-food restaurant, never mind one as big and globalized as McDonald's ought to be able to prevent. Finally, my visit to this McDonald's was one I would regret. Service overall was indifferent; food quality poor and cleanliness ignored. I hope that the management takes steps to resolve these problems and help restore McDonald's reputation, which it has been building over decades. But what would one expect from a bacon cheeseburger that adds pineapple, avocado and beetroot to its content? Aside from the cheese, every topping and condiment on that sandwich is slippery. The combination isn't one I'd experienced before, but I found it all well matched. And I was surprised to find all that content didn't overwhelm the flavor of the beef (though not by much). I might give even greater props, though, to the fries. Remember the perfect crispness of McDonald's fries when they were at their best? Take that fry quality but apply it to a chunkier, thicker cut of potato, and that's what you'll get at BurgerFuel. Delicious. I enjoyed this meal after some lengthy travels, and the restaurant is positioned well for air and road travelers, being just off State Highway 1 and only a short distance from CHC. Getting back to the sloppiness, it was only in the finishing bites of my meal that I realized the staff had provided me with a tool to help keep my burger together -- the nifty little Doofer, a pop-together burger keeper that my ignorance kept me from testing when I needed it most.
