RJ's has really good food. My wife and I went one time for a date night and really enjoyed our experience. The waitress was very nice and knew what she was talking about. She had great recommendations and the overall cost was pretty affordable. If you have the opportunity to go here I recommend sitting as close as you can to the lake. My bf and I went here for "taco Tuesday" which is constantly advertised on their sign. When we arrived I think it was around 6:30, it was almost empty. Maybe 2-3 tables of people and several at the bar. The hostess asked us "how many" we replied "two". She said it would be about ten minutes. I was waiting to see if she laughed. My bf and I looked at each other laughing and he simply asked "why?". She said they were short on servers. Even though I saw four. We decided to eat at the bar. We ordered an appetizer and the tacos. I ordered an iced tea and originally the bartender said they were "out" tried the button and it worked so she served me. It "wasn't right". I then asked to change to Diet Coke. I was then given a regular Coke. I said it was regular and she rolled her eyes at me and said I can have water. WTAF? The food. All of it- was horrible. We ate almost nothing. She asked it we wanted box a, we said no. She didn't ask why, nothing. Then she ran our credit card for someone else's bill. It took 4 people to void it. The place was dark and seemed dirty. Someone from the kitchen actually acknowledged me . I sat at bar few mins she kept just chatting with a customer had already been waited on . When guy from kitchen told her i needed to place order she was cracking her finger and didn't take order til she was done with each finger . Also had to repeat order she was not paying attention. Then food came an i had let her know i was moving to a table from bar an it took long tine to get food and it wasn't busy . She didn't check on me at all i I went to bar for a refill on my drink . I really wanted to like this place. I even came here 3 times in a 10 day period because I was thinking of becoming a regular, now I probably will never go back unless I want 50% off pizza on a Thursday or I want a Lake view on a nice day. The problem? At least 70% of the servers and bartenders seem pretty miserable. I usually try to chalk it up to someone having a bad day, but despite me pouring in the politeness and niceness, I never get it back in return. And when I've gone back, those same servers and bartenders seem to miserable. And it doesn't seem to matter if it's slow or busy. I've ordered an old fashioned and gotten a cranberry old fashioned. I've had my water forgotten at the bar when the place is dead The only bar with TVs in the Midwest I've ever seen that doesn't have the Big 10 channel. I've had the bartender ignore me and be as unfriendly as can be but talk to the regular next to me with a smile. I had the bartender change it to the Big 10 channel whichbthey didn't have and get a blank screen. They then proceeded to leave it in the dead channel and took them about 10 minutes before they realized they could turn it to another channel (they were dead and did not check in other patrons during this time). The final straw is when they had a Jack Daniels special including mixed drinks. I ordered a jack on the rocks and they charged me full price which is also more than the cost of a regular priced jack and coke. Evidently, they put more alcohol on the rocks or neat then they do in a shot or a mixed drink. The problem? I didn't order a double. And I used to bartend at multiple places. They tried to tell me it's always that way. Well in addition to me being a bartender, I looked it up and sure enough, it's standard across the country. 1.5 oz goes in a shot 1.5 oz goes in a neat glass 1.5 oz goes in on the rocks 1.5 oz goes in a Jack and coke There's two problems with this: *People on a budget are paying more than they'd like because RJs does it differently. *People that are counting their alcohol consumption so they aren't above the legal limit can quickly be overserved without knowing it. In RJs defense, they did change the bill but only after making me wrong for not knowing better (see above) and telling me to remember for next time. Charging more for a jack in the rocks than a jack and coke is WILD and I hope they consider changing their procedures so they don't end up with any drunk drivers? Oh. P.S. If you have something on special, and a customer orders something similar, your staff should probably be trained to point out the special and how it differs from what the customer ordered to minimize problems like this in the future. read more

Haven't been in here for 6 years. There had been renovations and change in ownership according to the Facebook community page a couple of years ago. Decided to give it a try. Immediately regretted once i walked in. It's dark and dim. The table and seats of the chairs looked like it hadn't been wiped down in days. Menus just felt gross. Food is too expensive for what you get. $17 for a blackened chicken sandwich w/ fries is highway robbery. Sweet potato fries had a hair. They also come dusted with sugar which is completely weird. Our server immediately corrected with placing a new order due to the hair and removed it from our bill. Overall, disappointing this place still can't seem to get it together. Previous review was with previous owners. New name is RJ's on the Lake. The bartenders are great. Love the new open floor plan and new floors eliminating the funk of that old carpet. Food is still mediocre at best. Went on a Wednesday for a special that wasn't offered any longer. Had to search for something to order and settled on wings. Edible. But seriously the celery and carrots were better than the wings. Hate when you order sauce on the side and it's served ice cold. Many restaurants do this tho :(. The physical menus are absolutely disgusting to touch. I had to go wash before eating cuz the menus are so gross it feels like you're going to catch something from touching them. Back to the food. I realize costs have increased but quality should match the price. Sadly, there's nothing special here except the pizza. But, the bartenders are great. read more

Visited here on a Wednesday night. I was a bit worried prior to my visit after checking out the most recent reviews. Although we did have good service and the food was good. The best part about this spot is the location. This is located right on the lake and there is a nice outdoor patio, screened in and not screened in seating. We were seated right away when arriving and plenty of available seats both inside and out. The food was good, we went with pizza, a wrap, and nachos. The special was street tacos and they were delicious, but my wife's chicken sandwich (which she normally orders here) came on the wrong bread and the avocado was not ripe, so uneatable. The biggest problem is always the service, especially outside (beautiful lake view is why we come here). It was a Tuesday evening and not very busy, having 3 different servers waiting on 5 tables outside, was not very efficient. And bring seated outside by the inside hostess, seems incredibly inefficient (they let you pick your table, so why not self seat from the outside entrance) a long walk for the hostess why people wait to be seated. Why not have some POS system or self help I Pads (like new Panera's have) to help the wait staff when busy, especially outside !!! read more

I chose RJ's because it's conveniently located near home. After a long day at work, we decided to go out for a casual dinner. I ordered the pan pizza, fully expecting it to take a little longer to cook--which was fine. It ended up being the only item that came out as ordered, though it was delayed. The manager came by briefly to explain that there had been a system glitch and our ticket hadn't made it to the kitchen. My mother-in-law ordered the Italian beef sandwich, requesting it juicy/dipped with extra au jus on the side. It arrived dry, with just a side of au jus--not what she ordered. My wife asked for traditional bone-in wings tossed in Asian sauce. Instead, they came out with BBQ sauce and were barely warm. She sent them back. Less than a minute later, they were returned with buffalo sauce and were even colder than before. It was obvious the wings had just been rinsed and re-sauced. They did not re-fire a new ticket. She sent them back again and ultimately canceled her order. Our server was very apologetic, and we appreciated her efforts. We made it clear that none of this was her fault. The issues were clearly with the kitchen--and unfortunately, the management. Despite the earlier ticket glitch and the repeated issues with the wings, the manager never returned to check in or acknowledge the problems. The lack of follow-up and accountability was disappointing and frustrating. What should have been a simple, relaxing meal turned into a string of mistakes with no real effort to make it right. I will not be returning to RJ's, and I cannot recommend it based on this experience. read more

The view of the lake is great, be sure to stock up on mosquito repellent though! I guess there was a reason why that we were the only ones outside during out visit. The interior of the building, it looks like one of those old school Chinese restaurants that had fish tanks everywhere and the bar seems like an old school dive. The taps reflect that too, with the majority of them from macro breweries with one or two local options. For dinner I got their stuffed baked potato, taco style. The potato was large and it was definitely a dinner sized portion but it was pretty bland. I basically was thankful for Tabasco that day. read more

The outdoor patio is amazing (Even though it's closed as I write this), with a breathtaking view of Sand Lake. Good place to relax and spend time, and has good bands routinely in the summer. If you are going to have something as a daily special how do you not have it at 5pm??? This place has not been getting good reviews so I'm going to change that. I was there yesterday with 4 other couples. We went early so we were the only group there. Our waitress was great. I wish I had gotten her name. We sat up in front at the windows because we wanted a quiet place. It was perfect. Everyone enjoyed their food. Large portions. One of the guys loves his meat and he thought the Italian beef was one the best. So don't give up on this place. It's bar food not gourmet. My friend and I had dinner here last night and she enjoyed her gluten free pizza, but my burrito was meh--which I thought, according to the menu should have come w chips and salsa. The burrito lacked flavor, and I was disappointed by the few tablespoons of salsa and guacamole it was served with; the guacamole was brownish, indicating it was not fresh. Our waiter was nice, and checked in often, but food to table time seemed long considering they weren't busy when we got there and ordered (just after 5pm). Went for lunch (Saturday 1:30pm) with a friend who has a mobility disability (uses a walker). THE RAMP WAS NOT SHOVELED AND WAS COVERED IN ICE. The stairs were not an option, so we left. Called Sunday, asked for a manager, was left on hold for 8 minutes then the line went dead. Called Monday (website says they are open at 4pm) at 4pm and again at 7pm. No answer. No voicemail. Checked your Facebook page to leave a message - no option to leave a message. I don't have time to track you down, especially when it seems you are going out of your way to make RJ's as inaccessible as possible, digitally and physically. Hey, RJ's Manager: I think it is great that you have a ramp (although you're only complying with federal law), but YOU ARE REQUIRED TO KEEP IT ACCESSIBLE. Your ramp looked like it had not been shoveled all winter. To other restaurant owners and managers: People with disabilities go out to eat. They pay with real American money. Please make your business accessible to all of them. They will patronize the places where they feel comfortable (if they can get in the front door). Also, this is not just a request.
