RJs Café is one of the coolest/family restaurants that I've ever been to in the area. Kind of has a Hawaii family vibe to it. The staff there was so welcoming and treated our kids and family so well the food here was out of sight. I had the pork Breakfast plate and it was so good the pancakes and other things in the menu you were out of this world. It was a lot of cafés the coffee isn't that great but this place makes amazing coffee. Just recently went to this cafe for the first time , and i LOVE it. Ive even gone back like 3 or 4 times after the first time , it was that good. The food tastes fresh . Im a BIG breakfast person and love their breakfast accompanied with a coffee!! I will say that their stuffed french toast throws me for a loop because its bread with a big chunk of cream cheese in the middle, and i HATE cream cheese. So i stay away from that particular item . The waitresses are always on top of the coffee pours, and super friendly! They have indoor and outdoor seating which makes it all that much more comfortable and accommodating for the weather. Staying at the nearby ritz Carlton, we decided to eat local VS at the hotel. one of the valleys at the ritz said that this place is 1 of his favorites, so we decided to try it out. my husband ordered the chicken fried steak and a side of banana pancakes and I had 1 egg, English muffin, with a 1/2 of a slice of ham. all of the food was delicious. the first time we went we only waited 10 minutes to be seated, we went back the next day and unfortunately it was a 50 minute wait for 2 people at 10 AM. The hints of corned beef were flavorful! I kinda wish I had a huge slice of the corned beef, it's always a tease with this dish. English muffin came out buttered. Outstanding Eggs Benedict and hash browns, some of the best I've had. My kids loved the cinnamon rolls and cinnamon roll French toast. Alongside the amazing food was outstanding service. I'm sorry I don't remember her name but our waitress was so attentive and nice she made the experience so much better. After our hike around Dana point we came here for breakfast around 9am. The place was bustling with almost all tables occupied except for outdoor seats. Luckily we were able to snag a table for 2 inside the cafe as it was warm outside. Service was a tad slow but nevertheless the servers attention was good. We ordered Chile quiles and Italian sausage with eggs. The food was satisfying. However the chile quiles portion size was very small with 2 eggs as the main protein. I wouldn't suggest that if you are looking for a good amount of protein for your breakfast. RJ's is a respectable breakfast restaurant, however, I ordered the BCA omelette and it was very disappointing and expensive compared to others. The avocado on top only was thinly sliced 3 to 4 pieces and they were overripe. There was no cheese in this omelette, only tons of overcooked bacon pieces. I've been coming here a handful of times! One of favorite places to have brunch! I usually go on the weekdays because this place gets packed on the weekends! It's worth the wait though! I have been there two other times, that is why I suggested it the last time we were there, and it will be the last time. I like the restaurant, the lack of caring in preparing and delivering the food is another story. Our server was great although she didn't pay much attention to things ordered. Waters were requested for the entire table. After coffee and orange juice were brought to the table and spilled, the person delivering it said they would return to clean it up and never did. Finally one water was brought to the table. Two orders of different kinds of soups were ordered, both cold. The cheeseburger arrived with no cheese, after telling the server they took it back for the cheese which should have been caught since the top bun is not placed on top. That burger and the turkey burger tasted like absolutely nothing and the sweet potato fries were burned. One of the breakfast items was mediocre and one was at least edible. The toast arrived after asking for it, one piece at a time. I am writing this because it was not a cheap meal and it was so below par. I hope you will make improvements although I will never know. I have heard of RJ's for years and never been, took care of that last week! We sat on the patio after a very brief wait (they are short-staffed, be patient it is worth it!) Our server came right over and got us started with coffee which was excellent. We started off with a Cinnamon roll, it was excellent! Freshly baked in-house, it was impossible to stop eating! This place is a breakfast tiki joint, a little outdated in decor and ambiance. You can tell locals come for convenience but don't expect much attention if you are not. We did not even get a refill on water because server was talking to other local patrons. I didn't want to make the other people that were in the party have to wait for me to get food. The food was good but the server forgot my sourdough bread that came with my omelet. About 15 minutes later, they called our name and were seated at a booth inside the restaurant. The Foods | American with some Mexican dishes. Portions are big and price point is very reasonable, averaging about $10-$17. - The Point | Omelette (3 eggs) with corned beef hash, jack & cheddar cheese. Served with a side of home fried potatoes & choice of toast. The corned beef hash is cooked with a little crisp (yes!) and there are bits of potato. It's not shaved nor bigger chunks of corned beef for those in constant search of this (like we are). However, it's still a great dish and cooked perfectly. - Carnitas & Eggs | Shredded pork cooked in their own special ingredients. Served with refried beans & cheese, home fried potatoes, eggs (I ordered mine over easy) and two tortillas (corn or flour). Whatever those special ingredients are for the carnitas... wow! Juicy, tender, and flavorful. I detected adobo seasoning, but perhaps there's more to it. If I'm right, blink once for yes, two for no. Home made fried potatoes are crispy and soft. Gather a little of everything, pile it onto a tortilla, splatter some Cholula green pepper hot sauce, and proceed to own it! The RJ's Cafe Feels | Tiki/Hawaiian beach decor. The indoor dining area is small. There are about six booths and the rest are tables with chairs. The covered outdoor dining area seems more expansive and for the location being in near the beach, guests will enjoy the nice weather if seated outside. The Staff | Our waitress was efficient even though the restaurant was busy. Food arrived in a reasonable amount of time and she came back to do coffee refills several times. I used to be a waitress at one point in my life and appreciate the balancing act of waiting on several tables concurrently. You all are doing great at RJ's Cafe! The Parking Situation | Parking is located at the front and back of the restaurant. No issues finding a spot, but it could be an issue on a weekend. The only thing you need to order from the menu is the Langostino Benedict. Hands down the best with some Ring of Fire chipotle hot sauce on top and you are all set. This is absolutely the best place to get breakfast anywhere in Dana Point, assuming you don't want to pay resort prices--and maybe even if you do. Not only was the French toast totally delicious, but I love the fact that RJ's offers combinations that include proteins. If you order French toast or pancakes at so many other restaurants, that's all you get--nothing but carbs.
