The atmosphere is cool as it's kind of like an industrial storefront in the Dickerson road arts district. Lots of cool arts stuff outside. I was driving by and I was like, yes, this must be the gallery. I visited the group art show to check it out and it all looked great. Didn't make the opening as I'm shy, sober and socially awkward but heard it went well. I hear Reno Art Works has art classes in the space which seems pretty awesome too. The gallery changes and is currently set up with dog and cat pieces to benefit and raise awareness for the SPCA. I have to emphasize "inquire" because how he treated me without thinking I would eventually purchase the painting was unintimidating, not judgmental, and even exceptionally cordial. This was all through a phone call and emails. Understand that this painting was fairly in high demand, and he could easily just treat me as a "number". But he took the time to have a conversation about the artist, the artwork, and the expectations of what I was looking for BEFORE even having anything on hand for me to consider. His email replies were always the same day or the day after. With much appreciation and excitement, he was able to pull through with what I was looking for; and I became a lucky customer of Stremmel Gallery. I look forward to working with Parker again in the future!

I attended the Grand Opening recently and was amazed at the variety of subjects that this artist paints. From local city scenes to local musicians, lots of great things attract his eye. I and my local multiple award winning group, First Take featuring Rick Metz (www.RickMetz.com), as well as many of the musicians that regularly sit in with us, have been honored to be a subject of his a few times. It's always fun to wind up in a painting by a talented artist. It's a small space packed full of lots of paintings. I was surprised I hadn't heard about the Artists Co-Op before today! I learned about it from…read moreanother art group here in Reno and decided to check out the reception they were having for an exhibition entitled, "The Art of Words." When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by a kind lady who told me a bit about the co-op. I learned they have a new exhibition every month but display current members' art all the time. I had the feeling that the members have been a part of this for many years. I headed on back to the exhibition and passed through several rooms on the way there where I saw the members' artworks. When I reached the back room for the exhibition, I spent some time admiring how some artists interpreted "The Art of Words." I was mostly impressed with the pieces that were actually made out of the pages of books like dioramas. When a member and I chatted about portraits (which I enjoy painting), I was a little disappointed to learn they would never hold an exhibition of portraiture because "portraits don't sell." I'll keep an eye out for future exhibitions though, because I enjoy supporting local artists.

When we moved into our new house we received a post card in the mail from Art Source. I've been an…read moreart collector for over 20 years. I like to change out my art because I get tired of looking at the same piece over the fireplace. So when I went into Art Source's Gallery I was in beyond impressed with their wide selection of my some of favorite artists: Pradzynski Zjawinska, Neiman, Yuroz, Neiman--and at the reduced prices, as I know what these artists go for in most galleries and Ebay. My husband and I picked out two pieces for our powder room but couldn't decide on which one. Chrystal let us take both home for a "try before you buy". We ended up with neither, because we found a piece already framed that we liked even better. See pic. This piece just made me smile, and that's what art should do--make you ponder, smile, or just 'feel something' disturbing. Chystal the owner is very nice and never pushy. If you see something you like, she tell you all about that artist and quote you a price because some of the pieces are not marked.

I've recently joined the Sierra Arts Literary Community and have attended two monthly get…read moretogethers. Thoughts on the venue: The art is well placed on the walls and is easy to see and well illuminated. The information about each piece is also on display next to each piece, making it easy for anyone who wants to view/purchase. There is a bookshelf near the south side of the gallery with local authors who are part of SALC. (There is a yearly membership fee, however the meetings I've attended do not require you to be a member). The gallery itself was clean and well maintained. Lynne has always been eager to help and answer questions thoroughly. I look forward to attending future meetings and being an active member of the SALC community.

The museum itself is manageable in size, I got through the whole thing in a couple of hours which I actually appreciated. Not overwhelming, just right. My only gripe was that there were a lot of loud people while I was there. Conversations echoing through the rooms made it hard to really concentrate and take everything in. Wish the etiquette had been better enforced but that's more of a crowd thing than a museum thing. The gift shops though? Loved them. There's a bookstore, a library, a gift shop, and a cute little shop in the lobby and I could have spent way too much time and money in all of them. Would absolutely go back next time I'm in Reno.

Sometimes, I wish they change the music up with other local artists in our town. It's always great seeing friends there especially if you haven't seen them in along time!
