Absolutely outstanding! I have lived in the New River Valley for less than a month, have tried Mexican food at three different places, and this was the best experience, hands down. Service was prompt and friendly, the restaurant was clean, and the food was top notch. I loved that the tortilla chips were served warm. The cheese enchiladas and the rice and beans that accompanied them were perfect. And the flan? Heavenly. The only recommendation I can make is that the powers that be work on the salsa, which is good, but nothing special. If you stop by the gorgeous Cascades Recreation Area and work up an appetite checking out the falls, do yourself a favor and stop by Riviera Mexican afterward. I am already planning another trip to the area just so I have an excuse to eat there again. :-) read more

We had to drive up to BB in Roanoke VA. On way to Roanoke we passed Riveria Mexicana and thought we'll stop on way back to stretch our body and take a meal. We were pleasantly surprised with our choice of restaurant. We dined all fresco since it was a lovely day. The staff was pleasant, our meal arrived promptly. We ordered a Chili Relleno and Pork Carnita platter. We enjoyed the grilled jalapeño and grilled spring onion garnish. We wished we had taken a photo to share with the review. After hiking The Cascades last week, our group stopped into Riviera for a bite. I am a huge fan of Mexican food and wanted to see what Pembroke offered. The one and only con I found was that they didn't serve margaritas. They do have beer and wine, so I'm guessing it's a no liquor thing. The food was tasty. Not the best Mexican food I've had, but still, very very good. I ordered the chicken chimichanga. Interesting part, it seemed to have a creamy queso on it. The prices are very reasonable!!! I was impressed. The staff were very kind and helpful. I would definitely recommend checking this place out. The next time I'm back in Virginia I will be eating here again. I am amazed at how little this restaurant is recognized on Yelp. This is easily the best restaurant around a 50 mile radius from here. Google had good rating for it and for good reasons. The food is amazingly cheap and as good as the top Mexican restaurants that I have tried such as uncle julio's. I got steak fajitas for $13, I'm from Northern Virginia and that's cheap to me. But the food was simply delicious, my fiance got some chicken dish and it was very tasty. If you are around the area, you must try this place. We came here after a hike at the cascades for a drink and lunch. My fiancé had the frozen sangria-rita which was huge, tasty and inexpensive. Our food came out quickly and was hot and delicious. I had the pollo mexicano and he had the burrito supreme. The service was amazing. It seemed to be a family business, and all associates were attentive, respectful and quick on their feet. Probably the best Mexican restaurant in the area. Not there is a lot of competition. But still. The food is always prepared very quickly, is always good, and the service is friendly. Sometimes I encounter a slight language barrier, but it allows me to brush up on my Spanish and there is always someone to help if we get stuck. Good thing is that you know it is truly authentic. Chips and salsa arrived, stale chips and bland salsa should have been my cue to leave but I ordered a tamale and a hard shell taco. The tamale was dry, firm and bland. The taco shell was stale and hard to eat. I dumped the beef out of my taco onto the tamale which made everything taste a little better but it was still bad. Thinking about stopping? We went with our family for Mother's Day. (Myself, husband, 2 children and MIL.) A couple sat in the adjacent table with their huge dog. This was definitely NOT A SERVICE DOG. (Possibly a great dane.) It ate from under my little ones high chair. The couple (may have been Appalachian Trail hikers?) fed the dog from the table. My oldest continually gawked, as the dog was behind them, and I needed to give reminders to turn around and eat. I worried my baby might drop something and have the huge dog underneath them again. (Bite potential.) The staff allowed it- as they were petting the dog and carrying on about it. Not to mention the petting and then handling our food/drink. I'm sure this would be frowned upon by the health department. Again, this was in no way a service dog. We definitely won't be back. read more

Came on a Sunday evening. Only appeared to be two people working. Food was just ok but service was absolutely subpar. Had to seek out our own napkins and silverware even after asking for them. Didn't receive our entire order and waiter became visibly aggravated when we asked for the other items and still didn't receive everything. Asked for a refill of my tea and the waiter disappeared with my glass and didn't return...after waiting 10 minutes had to hunt him down in the kitchen and ask for it. I understand being busy but for crying out loud, slow down a minute and get it right. Your customers will appreciate it. We won't return. read more

Our family has dined here frequently in their new location and their former location. Haven't been disappointed with anything and the staff is fantastic and friendly. Pollo a la parilla; nachos fiesta Cancun; arroz con pollo y vegetales- all good. Taquitos are okay- but I was introduced and fell in love with taquitos at Anita's in my youth. Again spoiled by Anita's- their Texas style sopapillas vary, but are still worth having. Unless they are slammed the food arrives super quick; when they are slammed the food arrives in a reasonable time. Even when we bring guests and have a large table they handle with ease. read more

Hands down one of the best Mexican restaurants in the area (counting BB, CB, Radford). ICE cold beer, fabulous tacos, excellent soup, nice beans and salsa. I came across Riviera Mexican by chance late on a rainy August evening after driving all the way down from Detroit (on my way to Blacksburg) and was very pleasantly surprised to find this gem. The food was very good, the service courteous and professional, and the beer selection great. We came for lunch at around 1:30 (they have lunch 11am-3pm) and ordered fajitas. Not "dinner fajitas." Not " lunch fajitas." Just "fajitas." They charged us for dinner. Why would you assume that someone who comes well within the lunch hour and orders "fajitas" wants dinner fajitas? Also, why stop at dinner fajitas raw? We didn't also specify how many fajitas. Why didn't they assume we meant, say, 10 dinner fajitas? Logic, people, logic. A bit dishonest and honestly left a bad taste in our mouth. We've been coming here for a long time and would expect to not be treated this way. A manager did finally come to fix the mistake and subtracted the extra, but they seemed convinced their logic was correct. So make sure you specify precisely what you want. Although I doubt they would mistakenly assume that you'd want lunch fajitas if you came there during dinner time. read more

I love Mexican food and fortunately there are three Mexican restaurants close to where I live. The first time I tried Riviera I had high expectations because I had seen all the cars there on a Friday night. They give you free chips and salsa. The chips however were a little dark and thick. I prefer thin and crispy. Food should always look good and the chips did not. The salsa was good. The Chimichangas had shredded chicken in them but the tortillas wrapped around the chicken were soggy and not crisp. The atmosphere was typical of Mexican restaurants. I enjoyed the little salad that came along with the entre. The menu was great and had lots of choices. It isn't my favorite Mexican restaurant but it does provide comfort food. read more

The food and service were okay. If you eat here, DO NOT pay with a debit/credit card. I tipped 20%, but I guess they wanted more. A couple days later, I got a fraud alert from my credit card company. They had keyed an extra $2 to the tip. When I confronted the owner, he had no interest in looking into it. read more
