We've stayed at a handful of Best Westerns before and had fairly good luck so decided to try this place since we noticed this branded property and we would prefer to stay right in town. It's a little sad to me that I think a lot of the mom and pop type motels have been torn down around the park, but I get it that sometimes people don't want to stay in places like that or they just aren't kept up well enough. I had no complaints with the Best Western stay. Our top floor room was quiet. There is a full gym attached to the hotel which seemed unusual but gave us the opportunity to get a full workout plus a sauna visit. I didn't use the pool and the hot tub was closed. I don't generally eat much from hotel free breakfasts anymore but at this one I found a yogurt with simple ingredients including cane sugar so I enjoyed that topped with some almonds. The hotel is also pet friendly, which is generally a must for us. The day we checked in they were having a roof redo, so there was a crew on the roof and discarded shingles and packaging all over, but other than that it didn't disturb our stay. We arrived around 2:15 and their check in time is 4. We were able to check in early with a fee of $35. It was worth it to us to be able to get to the amusement park earlier. There are restaurants and bars a short drive or longer walk down the road, and I'd definitely stay here again.

The owners are very down to earth, and the building is very cozy, an old rambling house tucked away on a shady knoll right next to Indiana Beach. We didn't end up going to the park, but we could have walked. The bed was comfy (though a bit high for Sweetie) and the room in general was nice. There is a common area by the entryway, and a couple of small dining rooms for breakfast. Prices are amazing for something right in the heart of things during the busy season. I never imagined I would be writing a review like this…read more Our family has been vacationing at Indiana Beach since the 1970s, and for the past 10 years, we've stayed at Dockside Inn. We book our vacation nearly a year in advance because we know how quickly everything fills up. Until this year, we had always enjoyed staying here. Unfortunately, this experience ended a family tradition that has spanned generations. When we arrived on Sunday, we unloaded all of our luggage, groceries, and belongings before discovering that our room had not been properly cleaned. The sheets had food residue, dirt, and hair on them. There was dirt and debris throughout the room, including under the beds and under the sink. The room did not feel clean or sanitary, and the blankets had a strong, unpleasant odor that made us uncomfortable using them. We immediately contacted the owner, sent photos, and respectfully explained what we found. Around 11:00 p.m., we were told housekeeping could not come that night and would come the following morning. That meant we had no choice but to spend our first night sleeping on top of the bedding because we were not comfortable sleeping in it. The next morning, housekeeping changed the sheets and brought new blankets. However, as we continued unpacking and using the room, we continued finding additional dirt and debris, including under the sink. I contacted the owner again to make it clear that I did not expect to be charged any cleaning or damage fees for a room that was already in that condition when we arrived. Then, at 9:05 p.m., we received a message telling us we had to be out by 11:00 a.m. the following morning. Less than 14 hours' notice. During one of the busiest weeks of the summer. After we had already unpacked everything, stocked the room with groceries, and tried to make the best of the situation. The owner gave us numbers for local motels, but none could accommodate our entire family because they were all booked. We then reserved a VRBO, only to have that reservation fall through the next morning. After hours of searching, we finally found an Airbnb, but due to limited availability, our family vacation had to be cut short by an entire day. Our group included an 80-year-old family member with significant mobility limitations, a family member with Type 1 diabetes, and a family member with epilepsy. Packing everything back up, moving all of our groceries, relocating everyone, and scrambling to find somewhere to stay created an unbelievable amount of unnecessary stress. The issues extended beyond our room. The community grills were in poor condition, with several appearing broken and not properly maintained. The pool water was cloudy, and there was a dead mouse caught in the pool filter with a very strong odor. We have included photos of these conditions so others can see exactly what we experienced. The most heartbreaking part is that we never demanded anything unreasonable. We simply expected a clean room. We reported the problem immediately, provided photos, gave the owner the opportunity to correct it, and hoped to enjoy the week-long vacation we had planned nearly a year in advance. Instead, we spent our vacation worrying about where we would sleep, packing everything back up, searching for another place to stay during one of the busiest weeks of the year, and losing valuable vacation time. To make matters even worse, one of the Ryans told me, "I would suggest not coming back." After years of staying here and supporting this property, those words were heartbreaking. This isn't just about one dirty room. It's about how loyal returning guests were treated after reporting a legitimate concern. We weren't looking for special treatment; we were looking for basic cleanliness, professionalism, and respect. We are posting the photos and screenshots of our conversations so people can see exactly what we experienced and make their own decision. Our family's Indiana Beach tradition began in the 1970s. Dockside Inn had been part of that tradition for the past decade. Sadly, because of this experience, that tradition has come to an end. We will not be returning.

My family needed a place to stay at the last minute and Terry helped me find the perfect option for all 9 of us to stay. We were able to walk to Indiana Beach. You are within 200 yards of the park's entrance, which was so convenient. By being a guest at Bay Side Resort, you also received a generous discount into the park. The property had paddle boats and kayaks that were free to use. This was something the whole family participated in, and was an added perk that no other rental offered. There is a giant deck for all residents to enjoy without feeling cramped. They offered a multitude of grills (gas/charcoal) so we were able to enjoy grilling out as a family which also saved us money by being able to avoid an expensive restaurant. They are located on a quiet bay area that has minimal big boat traffic, so the family was able to swim in Lake Shafer, along with boating. If you don't want to swim in the lake, the property also had a large swimming pool and hot tub. There is a convenient marina located across the bay, so if you need to rent a boat or wave runner you had that option as well. There was also a huge fire pit that is free to use at your leisure. The inside of the house we rented was rustically beautiful. It had a full size refrigerator, stove, microwave, and sink. The bathroom had a walk in shower. The particular house we had included a queen, full, set of bunk, and futon beds. Overall the experience was wonderful. We highly recommend to anyone looking for an awesome place to stay. The maintenance man finally came at 10:30 at night to attempt to fix it. He cleaned the filter and told us to let them know if it is not cooler by morning. It was 88 degrees in the main room at 10:30 at night, and even worse in the other rooms. When we told him that was unacceptable, he got angry and yelled at us about going to buy a new air conditioner from walmart. I told him that he should go buy one becauase we cannot stay in rooms this hot. They wouldn't move us to an empty room because they said that their cleaner didn't finish cleaning any of the rooms that day, so there were no clean rooms available. THe maintenance man finally returned with a new air condidtioner, and installed it. This air conditioner worked. However, in the process of installing it in a rage, he cut himselft. THere was blood on the wall and on the door. While removing the old air conditioner, it leaked dirty water all over the floor and the futon. He replaced the futon and tried to wipe off the water on the floor with a bath towel. He left he blood for us to clean up though!. To top if off, the front desk said they would clean it up when we left. This place should be shut down. Disgusting, filthy, infested and incredibly rude staff. I've previously stayed in the main hotel (lodge) near the lobby without issue. Sure, it's outdated and a little musty, but it's a lakeside hotel that caters to summer crowds with kids fresh out of the lake and allows dogs. You can't expect it to be anything else. This trip, I was put at the very back of the property in a separate building surrounded by men (I'm a woman traveling alone and expressed concern about this). There wasn't another vehicle anywhere near the main building. My dogs are with me, as they've been on previous stays, and the front desk woman said these are the only dog-friendly rooms available. Fine. The room is disgusting. The floor is filthy (my disgusting socks prove it), the bathtub is cracked, the smoke detector is covered in plastic wrap, paint is chipped and peeling, the door doesn't seal properly, the towels are a gross beige from use - the list keeps going. I will not be returning for my second booked night and would have bailed immediately if it weren't late on a Sunday with no other options available.
