Gorgeous evening on the river with some amazing food and drinks. Our waitress was very attentive and we thoroughly enjoyed our food!

I have always wanted to have dinner here and finally a group of 4 of us went on a lovely Summer evening. We chose the patio because it is along the Sandy River and there were people floating the river. Lots of entertainment and beauty. The waitress we had was very friendly and explained specials to us. I chose the rib eye which came with mashed potato's and broccolini. It didn't take long and the dinner's arrived. The steak was cooked perfectly and it tasted grilled. Very Nice! The mash was wonderful and the broccolini was just right. The pricing was not bad either. I had a lemon & blueberry marscarpone cake. Delicious! I will be back! read more

First time back to Junki's Riverview in a while, due to a temporary shut down, but thank God they're back! And in perfect form! First, since they are forced into outdoor seating only at the moment, they have the BEST covered patio I've experienced since COVID was a thing. It was warm enough to be almost balmy! I had to take my coat off! Although it wasn't on the menu this time, apparently Yoshida-san and some of his friends were in the restaurant the night before, and brought in some edamame to craft his amazing appetizer, so we inquired our *awesome* server, Chad, if they could put together the same for us...and they did! They had just enough left to throw down an awesome dish! Man, it's so good! My wife and I spent 30 minutes trying to deconstruct all the ingredients involved in making it, before Chad, noticing our dilemma, asked the chef, unprompted, for the the ingredient list! Now that's service! I ordered the miso salmon entree, while my wife had the crusted Mahi Mahi special. Both of us were enraptured by our choices: my miho salmon was savory like a steak, without that fishy taste that so easily overwhelms a dish. The miso sauce embraced it like a gentle lover, drawing out it's strengths and complementing it in every way. Easily among my top 3 favorite fish dishes of all time. Meanwhile, my wife's bread-crusted Mahi Mahi, like a high-class fish and chips (sans chips), hit every flavor note it set out to trigger: tangy, savory, salty, sweet. No need for tartar sauce here, folks! A couple of Rye Old Fashioneds and Tanqueray and sodas, and the Chocolate Mousse dessert completed the meal, and left us content, bordering on ecstatic! I'd have ordered the Creme Brulee, but I was overruled, and yet I have no regrets! The brownie bites, mousse and whipped cream were a light, sweet end note to a perfect meal! I have come to expect perfection from Junki's Riverview, and have yet to be disappointed. Huge shout out again to our server Chad for being professional, efficient and accommodating (on both of our visits!), both in pursuing an off-menu item, and then asking (on our behalf) the ingredient list to enable us to experiment in making it at home! Absolutely nothing negative about our experiences here, friends! Junki Yoshida and Co. have estabished a top tier dining experience on the fringes of Multnomah county, and you are absolutely, truly missing out if you can't be arsed to drive out to Troutdale to indulge. They need to offer more options or just change it once in a while. The ambience and views are amazing since this place is right on the Sandy river and has outdoor dining options. From the moment we walked in, we were treated as valued guests. We arrived 45 minutes prior to our reservation and decided to sit in the bar for a cocktail. We walked outside which was stunning, a bit cold but the view of the Sandy River warmed us up immediately. We were seated at our reservation time and enjoyed exceptional service from Andy, who was not only attentive but gave us space and time to enjoy conversation, our appetizer and the first pour of our bottle of wine. I had the salmon with miso glaze and my wife had the butternut squash ravioli. My salmon was cooked to perfection, the only way it should be here in the pacific northwest and the ravioli were everything my wife expected. Made OpenTable reservations but had no trouble at all changing to 4 as my husband was able to join and originally had indoors but they asked if we preferred out which we did - splendid. Absolutely fantastic food and wonderful service by Chad. Serene setting among the huge trees and quiet river. We started with the fried artichoke hearts and shumai. Perfect choices. Both were excellent. The shumai were delicious pillows of sweet savory and the fried artichokes had a wonderful touch of lemon flavor (possibly zest). Mom hardly eats so we got her the Soup of the day, that was a chicken wonton. Mom loved it as it was not salty at all with big meaty wontons. I ordered the demi-glazed brisket which came with mashed and asparagus. DAMN! So good! You can bathe me in that demi-glaze! I shared a bit with Mom (boy, is SHE lucky!) Hubby got the brisket noodle bowl which he absolutely loved and said had the most exotic flavors. Daughter had the butternut squash ravioli, which also had amazing flavors. We have eaten here twice, once pre-Covid, and again in August 2021. Both times were delicious! And both times we sat outside and had a view of the river. Their cocktails are wonderful- 3 of us enjoyed the Rye Old Fashioned! We split a calamari appetizer and it was PERFECTLY cooked. Crispy and tender! I had the special - a miso glazed salmon filet with rice and roasted veggies. Wow! The sauce was so tasty but didn't overpower the fish. Arrived during advertised seating period but on arrival were told by the waiter lunch was over. Turned out his shift was ending and he obviously didn't want to serve us. We found a manager who seated us. Food was disappointing and over priced. Steak I received was so tough it was difficult to cut with the steak knife and the fatty edges looked almost raw (gross)! My friend had a steak sandwich was mediocre, and the fish and chips which was the best of it all. Even the coffee was undrinkable - tasted like it had sat on the burner for awhile. This is one amazing place for dinner! Chad, our waiter, was very accommodating bringing us a great 1924 red blend wine. The meal began with 2 steamed wontons followed by a bowl of clam Chowder and hot bread. The salmon was served with rice and asparagus. DELICIOUS! The happy ending was a wonderful piece of red velvet cake. There was a piano player as well. He was playing nice soft dinner music. Being Valentine's day, I requested "A Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zeplin. Believe it or not, he was able to pull off a wonderful, but appropriate, rendition! We've been here a couple times for the chef's 4 course menu. Staff is always very pleasant. Timing between courses is a little longer than I'd prefer. Otherwise servers have been great. We've enjoyed our meals, lots of flavor. We didn't have issues with temperatures, taste, consistency etc that others have stated. In fact, one of the pieces of brisket was pretty fatty so they brought out the meal and told us the chef was also preparing more brisket because of that. As soon as it was ready they brought more brisket that was delicious. We really appreciated that, shows attention to quality. Very nice atmosphere with a nice view. The atmosphere is fabulous! We sat outside and had an incredible view of the river. The service was very good and we enjoyed the fresh cocktails. My son ordered an appetizer and entree, both of which were tasty, but surprise! they were both made with the same sauce. He felt like he was basically eating the same thing twice. I had the squash ravioli and everything about it was fantastic except for the extremely small amount of squash in the ravioli - I honestly couldn't even taste it. Note for the business: Please encourage your servers to let people know when they are ordering two very similar dishes so they aren't disappointed in the lack of variety they end up with. And consider adding more squash in the ravioli so a person can actually taste it. I have been to this restaurant many times before. This was one I'd consider a gem until I came with a group of 6 girlfriends and was not pleased. Everything that made this place fine was taken out of "fine" dining. We had paper menus, paper napkins, paper straws. and a lot if not most of the menu has changed which did not sound appetizing. The portions were very small. My halibut was the smallest fish flake I've ever seen. The sides were over cooked, rice hard and dry. The potato wedges burnt, and 3/6 guests came home with upset stomachs. The sad thing is this used to be one of my favorite places, but It seems it's my last dinner here. read more

The staff greeted us right away and we met with our friends who were already seated. We came here with a groupon for their 4 course meal. The menu had a good selection and option to upgrade to items outside of the standard 4 course. I started out with won ton shumai, they really big and super juicy with flavor. Would definitely recommend them. My husband got the calamari and I felt the pepper on the batter was overpowering and took away from the calamari itself. Second course I got the soup of the day which was a vegetable beef, this was a risk for me as I'm not a huge fan of beef. Boy was it worth the risk! It was very hearty and had a ton of different flavors and really made it a satisficing meal. Finally onto the entrée, i got the miso glazed salmon. It was super tender and had a lot of flavor in the glaze. I actually removed some because it was overwhelming flavor. The fish was cooked more to a medium rare which was unusual to me but I trusted that it was safe. My husband ordered the ribeye med rare and it came out VERY rare. We all seemed happy with our meals and the presentation. Last was the desserts, I got the Creme Brulee and it was way bigger than expected. I'm a huge fan of creme brulee but no one else at the table was but they all tried it and said it was the best they have ever had. Riverview was one of my favorite restaurants, but it was disappointing this time. The portions were a Lot smaller, and they didn't offer any of the complementary bread. They're now charging for it! Which is fine I'll pay for it. But it was just three small rolls. Also there was only one option for the dessert menu. Keep in mind this was a Groupon, we have been doing Groupons for this restaurant many times and we absolutely loved it! I will definitely think again about getting a Groupon. This is a great destination for a romantic evening, but not much of a food destination. The focus is much more on a luxurious atmosphere than on providing quality food. The menu is small, and focuses on seafood. I tried the salon cakes as a starter. There were 3 good-sized cakes in the order, and they were served atop an herb sauce. The cakes were quite good...crispy exterior, good flavor, and quite a bargain at $7. They make up the profits on the main courses. I opted for the ribeye with smoked gouda gnocchi, really because the gnocchi sounded very good. Well, they weren't good...they were not even average. They were really bad. The cheese was overcooked, and had broken into separate puddles of grease and cheese solids. This was quite an accomplishment considering the gnocchi were under-cooked. They tasted of raw flour, and were just a nasty, pasty mess. The steak's temperature was spot-on, but it was horribly over-seasoned...far too much salt. It was also a disappointment. I was hoping the desserts would be better, but it looks like they either bring them in from an off-site commercial kitchen, or the pastry chef just stopped caring a long time ago. I've had better desserts at Denny's. I got the carrot cake, and it too had a grainy, raw flour taste, which was particularly disturbing since the menu said it was gluten-free. A colleague got the cheesecake, and it was pretty bland and flavorless as well. I was very happy that I didn't actually pay for dinner - we went as a company celebration. Perhaps it would have been better if we were not such a large group (approximately 12 people). I was so underwhelmed by the poor quality of the cuisine, especially in light of the high prices, that I'm not going to go back to find out. read more

It was our favorite Happy hour and the food was always delicious and we enjoyed the piano , service and the hospitality!!! We walked in tonight, and I went right to the area where the bar used to be when I was rudely approached and scolded by an employee for entering. I simply asked "Oh... is the bar not here anymore?" He condescendingly said.." No, this isn't a bar!" He could have been polite and said the bar is on the other side of the restaurant. Nope! I had no idea that there was a bar anymore, so I asked him, " Do I need a reservation for dinner?" He got in my face, points over to the Hostess sign and yells at me, "You need to go check in with the hostess!" It wasn't until after we spoke with the hostess that we learned the bar had been moved to the other side of the building. For this reason alone, we will not be returning. People working in the service industry need to keep in mind that the customer is the reason why they have a job and treat people with respect. read more

I came here with a large group. This was a very beautiful restaurant with balcony overlooking river. It was a little rainy but I still was able to enjoy the scenery. Great place for special occasion. Really 3.5 stars - Did the Groupon special (I paid $45 for 2-4 course meals). Very nice restaurant- little one felt underdressed (she was fine). Started with a Shirley Temple and a Raspberry KISS (tasted like all alcohol- to strong for me). For apps I had the fried tofu with mild sauce (& it was still spicy) - very good. She had the shumai - 2 small ones and they were chewy and tasteless. 2nd Course - I had the spinach salad - excellent (forgot to have the carrots omitted & there were a lot t!) She had the clam chowder - mediocre and watery. Main course - I had the brisket (good but to stringy and chewy) mashed potatoes (good) & asparagus (yuck and Zi love asparagus). She got the salmon in lemon sauce - EXCELLENT (best item of the night - cooked perfectly), white rice (bland & to much). I asked for a cocktail that they didn't have on the menu and our waiter texted the bartender (who was temporarily laid off) just to get the right ingredients. Classy! Sidenote, the drink is called Italian Mustache. Large selection of gins for hubby's martini. We shared the wonton shumei and calamari appetizers which were meaty and lightly fried. Copious amounts of calamari, too! Entrees: hubby had rib eye, which was cooked perfectly, and I had the beef brisket rice noodle bowl, which was very well balanced with savory Asian flavors and went perfectly with the side of pickled vegetables we ordered. In a condescending tone! Not cool but I brushed it off. Were seated outside with a nice view of the river. Ate the bone in pork chop- the fat was caramelized into a dark brown crusty outer and inside was like pulled pork, just excellent presentation and preparation.
