Riverview Motel is a great place to stop for a night or two for a clean room when touring this part of Northeast Washington. Beautiful scenery that is right along the Pend Oreille River (pronounced Pond Oray) on the International Selkirk Loop. Motel rooms include a good sized small fridge/freezer, toaster oven and microwave and coffee maker and nice flat screen tv with lots of channels. They have guest laundry facilities too, so a great place to stop and clean up a bit if you're on an extended tour. Tip: request one of the "end" rooms that has a view of the Pend Oreille river. (there are two view rooms and well worth the extra $10) you get a view of the river and a deck with a small outdoor table and two chairs. Its nothing fancy but it is very clean and very well maintained. There isn't much in the way of food offered in the town of Ione which is why this motel is great. They provide two BBQ grills for guest use and the rooms are outfitted for you to bring in your own food for a short stay. Grab some frozen-delight dinner from the grocery store in Ione and grill/microwave whatever you need. They have one covered picnic table on the edge of the parking lot overlooking the river. Lots of wildlife, trees and fresh air along this scenic highway route, (This weekend we saw a moose with calf, black bear and turkeys!) In the past, we've seen fox, brown bear, whitetail deer, elk and tons of turkeys. The Lions Club runs a scenic railway tour and Boundary Dam is very interesting to visit. The owner maintains several well equipped and well supplied common areas, one being a "Hikers' room " where you can leave and take items that you don't need anymore, or need but you didn't bring. Arlie the owner is one of the kindest gentlemen I have met in my life, We were humbled when he offered to do our laundry for free, and shared stories and experiences he collected throughout the decades he had been running the place. Beautiful artwork and authentic old furniture is part of the ambience of this wonderful place. There are shared bathrooms that are also kept in spotless condition. We strongly recommend to enjoy this amazing peace of history and the hospitality of a kind hearted man.

You can walk the town in 20 minutes, but check out the Bigfoot event in June - or better yet, any time this little town is not slammed - and you'll get a (very) small town experience we have not found elsewhere.

I stayed here before, as it's inexpensive and fit my need for a place to sleep while enjoying the area. This time the place was different. First of all, there were thousands of mosquitoes, due to the high water in the area. No control was used at all, and upon entering our room, the swarm came inside. My friend received 35 bites the first night, and a few more the second. In back of the motel was a ditch running towards the highway full of gray water. It appeared they were having issues with the septic tank/sewer. Upon entering the shower, the water smelled enough like rotten eggs to make me retch. That smell stayed on my body all day. The second day I didn't shower. The first 10 minutes we were there the toilet plugged and we were offered a plunger to fix and clean up the over run toilet. On the morning we left, I had been up all night with diarrhea, so we were didn't stop at the office. When I called and ask to speak with the manager..they said she would have to call me back. She never did. This was in 4th of July, and all other motels were booked. We were 90 miles from other services. I would not recommend this motel at all. Could be pleasant if effort was applied..none was offered. Shame !!

I was there to ride my Triumph Tiger motorcycle on the many deep forest roads, while my daughter tended to business in the area. The best thing is the room we had was fantastically clean. The bathroom passed my daughters inspections with flying colors! That's a first! The beds felt new. Room had microwave, refrigerator, flat screen TV and dish network TV. You want a good clean place to stay, this is it. Also, very quiet. Mostly workers from the Mine or Box Canyon Dam or Boundary Dam on temporary assignments. So they are in bed early and up early, then off to work. Management was very friendly and knowledgeable about area. I was impressed, and it's hard to impress me. A 20 second walk then you're down on the river. If I ever need to be in the area again this is where I'm going to stay for sure.

Elevator was a classic with push buttons that I haven't seen in an elevator in years. The hallway to our hotel room was nice and clean The room had two double beds and was clean. You always have to log in if you are not using the internet after so many hours. The restaurant at the end of the hallway in the hotel was a bit pricey. More on that in my next review. I like the Best Western Chain and this location hasn't let me down. The hotel is much more cheery than when you drive downtown on a cold winters dreary day in Trail.

Saw the Mountain View Lodge listed on the ski areas web site and decided to give it a try. Great Location and Setting: 8 miles from the ski are meant a casual morning having breakfast and getting ready and still on the lifts by 9:00am. Located at the top end of a sloping pasture with great views out across the valley and surrounding mountains. Quiet, peaceful and the stars at night were amazing. While we were there for skiing this place would be great during any season of the year. Good Accommodations & Breakfast: I'm not a big fan of B&Bs and the Mountain View Lodge is more hotel with common great room than a traditional B&B. Stayed in the Canopy Room, nice, comfortable, roomy and nice view of the valley. I was concerned the Great Room might be the owner's living room and we'd feel like we were encroaching on their space but their living area is separated from the guest wing of the lodge and we felt very comfortable. Breakfast was perfect for what we wanted. Fresh fruit bowl with strawberries, kiwi and melon, yogurt, selection of breads and pastries, oatmeal, granola, cold cereals, juices and coffee. Put out in the Great Room in the morning in the fridge and on a cart for self-service at your convenience. Several bistro style tables mean guests can decide where and how to sit. Great Hosts: Rose was awesome both prior to and during our stay.
