One word. Ahhhhmazing. Best life experience. I'm so glad I decided to do this "dude ranch experience" with my daughter and at Bullhill. Wranglers are so "friendly and attentive "to your needs and always asking what you want to do and what kind of ride. We did a cattle drive one day with sweeping views of the valley and river as we went down and up the mountain. You start your day with a fabulous four course breakfast includes home baked cinnamon rolls! Set out and guess what " 4 course choice hot lunch as well as brownies and cookies for desert is waiting for you when you get home! Crazy wonderful. Our cabin was rustic yet so cozy and clean. Earthy and genuine, this Guest Ranch offers a fun horse centric family time but with enough adult alcoholic distraction, great food and comfortable accommodations. Very friendly and helpful staff and wranglers, well maintained horses and fat cows. Nice lake to swim and boat in as well. Only drawback was a lot of trails needed more T-L-C. What an incredible place with equally incredibly staff. I was part of a large contingent that was there for a 50th birthday party. I was a little concerned because many in our group, myself included, are gay/lesbian. I didn't know how we would be received at an authentic guest ranch/cattle ranch that is pretty remote. I felt nothing but warmth, acceptance and pure hospitality from everyone there. So that concern aside, I was able to fully enjoy the ranch, which is amazing. Nothing fancy or glam, but very authentic. The horses are wonderful and well treated, and I love that you get to be with the same horse throughout your stay (unless you want another one). Each morning our wrangler would come by and ask us what we wanted to do that day. Short ride? Long ride? Some time in the arena playing around with barrel racing? Yes to all! And for those hours when you don't want to be on a horse they have the most wonderful lake one mile away. You can walk there, take a bike or drive a car. It was awesome for swimming, kayaking and just hanging out. The food was great. Again, nothing fancy, but perfect for a "dude ranch". Lots of hearty courses from cooks that want nothing more than to please you and fill your belly. The cabins are basic and cozy. I really loved them. All in all a really great value, considering all you get for the price. I quizzed our wrangler, Maddie, who was back for her second year, about what it is like to work at the ranch. She couldn't say enough good things about the family that owns and runs it. It has been in the family for generations and she said that they treat their entire staff like family. She chose to work there because of the people and because it isn't a "nose to tail" type of riding camp. So good to hear. We worked with Tucker a great deal, and he is the nicest and most accommodating guy ever. Between teaching us skeet shooting, and setting up the main room for our big birthday celebration, he was there to take care of anything we needed. And a special shout out to one of the owner's sons, Joe (Joey?) who rode with our group each day, along with our wrangler. What an incredibly polite, engaging, knowledgeable, fun and respectful young man. Good people all around. I highly recommend going and will definitely return. read more

Just spent the best vacation ever. Everyday was better than the first. This is the real deal. They run 600 head of cattle on 50,000 acres. They have 70 great horses, some plugs for the novice and advanced horses for the pros. A horse for every level. The horse are truly great mountain horses, bomb proof and fun. Great cabins, family style real food, two hot tubs, private lake, open bar etc. The cowboys are great, they will make it happen. They even let us help gather up some lost cattle.... the ride to a friends private saloon was unreal. The Navy Seal Sniper teams come here to practice in the woods. No we did not see them, just lots of thank you plaques on the walls. When we got their they said to feel and act like at home. They really mean it. Feel free to go behind the bar and pour your own drink or get your own sodas. They service 3 meals, snack and always have leftover for snacks. It seems their only rule is to use common sense and behave like at home. Oh did I mention real riding, not nose to tail, unless you want to... and the horse do not race home after the ride... we own our own horse and they have great horse, not broken down old guys. I came here with a couple of friends, and we had such a good time! We came up for a long weekend and had fun riding horses, shooting clay pigeons, and soaking in the hot tub. In the morning, the staff will ask you what you want to do that day--and then make it happen! So experience will be super personalized. Also the food is really, really good and you can tell the chef is extremely into his job. My only regret is that we were there for such a short period! I can't wait to come back with my family for longer. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't recommend this place for a weekend getaway--Sundays are slow and there aren't any activities like riding or shooting scheduled. Instead I'd plan to come for a week or so and really get to enjoy the place and all it has to offer. read more

I called several months ahead and asked them if they can accommodate a vegan/gluten free diet. They said yes it was no problem and to call again closer to arriving to remind them. I let them know a couple weeks ahead again that I was vegan and gluten free. They said again that it was no problem. The first night for lunch they served me a veggie patty that wasn't gluten free. That night dinner for guests was twice baked potatoes, buttered asparagus, and bbq chicken... the chef literally gave me a potato and some asparagus that was cooked dry. No seasoning, nothing. She said she made me a vegan dessert but forgot to make it gluten free. The next morning they realized my breakfast was neither gluten free or vegan. They were very nice and kept trying to make it right but it left me hungry and feeling very awkward about the whole situation. I just wish they had been straight forward from the beginning that they had zero knowledge or experience with cooking for someone both vegan and gluten free. I would have planned accordingly for my own meals. It's a very expensive trip if you don't have proper yummy meals. I believe after 3 nights, after tips, I spent $1000. This was sharing a small cabin with one bathroom and 6 people. Also they have a trip to a saloon. They forewarned people that if you are "liberal" it may be offensive. This is beyond offensive. I actually have spent a couple weeks contemplating this review. I have never written a review on Yelp before. But this saloon is a place that they should not have their customers patronizing. It is floor to ceiling covered in bumper stickers that are full of dehumanizing propaganda. Honestly I didn't even have a problem with the conservative messages.... It's the white suprematism messages that are literally everywhere in the saloon.... There are anti-black, anti-Hispanic, anti-gay as well as anti-Jewish messages all over this saloon. Literally everywhere. I walked in and stayed for less than 5 minutes because I was blown away by how hateful the messages on the wall are. This saloon is not offensive towards "liberals" It is in general offensive towards anyone with a sound mind. The man who owns the saloon is a former Vietnam vet. I will say I commend him for serving our country. I wish him well in life, but his dehumanizing racist rhetoric must not be for Bull Hill Ranches guests to partake in. I want to say that overall my experience at the ranch was nice, but upon more time away and contemplation, it feels wrong of me to not speak up and stand out against a business that will continue to allow people to witness that kind of hate speech throughout the walls of a saloon. So ultimately, this is why I am giving them 1 star. Please do not visit Bull Hill Ranch until the saloon is either no longer apart of their experience or until the owner of the saloon does the right thing and takes down his racist messages on his walls. read more

Unforgettable! I've waited for years to take this trip, and it was beyond my wildest dreams! Joe, wrangled our horses through stunning and breathtaking trails, like a Jumanji adventure! My horse Jim was a broke ass trail horse and I just gave up and let him get me back to the barn! He knew better than me the work he was doing! I thought I was an intermediate rider, but be sure to check beginner if you have any question in your mind, because this is a working ranch! The cattle drive was so much fun, and I swear I have to do this again, so we can go to the saloon! We booked for next year, before we left, and will bring our whole family back with us. From the moment we arrived the staff, guests, food, wranglers, are all the best! Steak night was delicious! We tipped generously, because we were amazed at how hard everyone works here! Everything about this place including the venue, setting, activities, location, the friendliest staff, the all inclusive DELICIOUS meals, drinks and activities, the view, the horses, the lake.... I could go on and on about this guest ranch. We all had the best time and took full advantage of all that this guest ranch has to offer. I can't say enough about the staff from the most awesome and gracious host, Tucker, to our daily wranglers, Maddie and Joey, the cooks that made us incredible meals three times a day and provided awesome snacks throughout the day, the property dog, Eve. This guest ranch is a hands-down five-star experience and we all can't wait to go back again to take it all in and enjoy all that it has to offer. Oh, I wish I could give them 5-stars! The good: We had a great time here! The horses were amazing, and we were able to go out for two long rides during our 2-night booking. One of the rides was a 3-hour cattle drive, and it was an experience we'll never forget! I didn't bond so much with the horse I rode the first time, and the staff paired me with another horse for the second ride. The second horse was more interested in riding than in eating dead grass, and we had a great time together! It's also great that the horses run free all afternoon and night and aren't kept cooped up in the stables. The bad: I wrote them 3 weeks ago when I made the booking to let them know I was vegan. I received a prompt and sweet response that this was no problem, and that the chef did it all the time. I thought I was all set, so I didn't bring food with me. I even reminded them again when the staff contacted me the week before to confirm the reservation. But the chef, come to find out, had no idea what a vegan was. The ranch is at least an hour drive from the next small town over, so there isn't somewhere else to get food. In the end, we were able to work out something for the two nights I was there, but I was frustrated that this wasn't taken care of beforehand. It was quite stressful and didn't make me feel welcome! The food just also wasn't that great--a lot of canned and bagged stuff and a lot of dishes that had been prepared quite some time before. Nothing felt fresh. The rooms were also quite cold at night, but we weren't allowed to light a fire because of the burn-ban. Not the ranch's fault, but I wish we had gotten an email telling us to bring warmer clothes. Also, I had been here once before and wasn't able to go to the saloon on the first trip. I made sure to tell them when we booked that heading out to the saloon on horseback was the #1 thing I wanted to do on this trip. Again, I got a sweet response that this was no problem but, when we got there, the staff just didn't deliver. I asked about it a few times and it was just never scheduled. Another miss. The dust: THERE IS SO MUCH DUST THAT GOING OUT ON THE TRAILS ON HORSEBACK FEELS LIKE ENTERING A WAR ZONE. Man, I think we were coughing up dust and dirt and phlegm for a solid week after. Just something else we'd have liked to have known beforehand. Perhaps this can be included in the booking email? If nothing else, bring a handkerchief or scarf! The bottom line: Overall, I think it was worth the $$ and the 7-hour trek from Seattle, but I do think it could be better! read more

I dozed off for a moment as we were driving up the Columbia River gorge from Spokane, and woke up as we pulled on to Bull Hill Road. I had a feeling, this place was going to be special.. We crested over the last hill and got a view of the barn and cookhouse, with small cabins spirnkled in the woods behind. It is literally breathtaking, especially the first time you turn and look back at the view of the Columbia River. This place is a slice of heaven, nestled in the middle of nowhere. 3rd generation Italian immigrant cattle ranchers whose ancestors staked claim to nearly 55,000 acres of amazing Pacific Northwestern topography in 1903. From horseback riding, hiking, fishing, eating, drinking(of course) and all other activities, you can truly slip into a genuine cowboy mindset. Work hard, play hard! The whole family is extremely professional, caring, knowledgeable, and hospitable. We had obligations for a family member's wedding that weekend(which was amazing), but had plenty of time to enjoy ourselves doing whatever we chose otherwise. Horseback rides were great! The horses were all very receptive to each person's abilities and Tucker and the gang of wranglers did and amazing job of coordinating LARGE rides of 30-40 horses and riders at a time (not easy!). The saloon was the highlight of the trip, a tribute to The American Dream, as is the BH Guest Ranch itself... This was not a destination wedding, it was a bucket-list wedding, a once-in-a-lifetime experience. An absolute must go, whether it be a wedding, family, friend, or fraternity reunion, team building event, vacation; you name it and this place will deliver. I am at Bull Hill Guest Ranch with my 10 year old daughter as I write this. We are staying in the Gunsmoke cabin, which has an extraordinary view of the valley. We both absolutely love this place. The cabin is wonderfully clean and well set up. Anything you could desire is provided. The staff is extremely friendly and genuine, and seem to truly enjoy sharing the experience with their guests. There are a ton of kids my daughter's age for her to play with and ride with. The country is gorgeous. Most of the people staying here now are multi year repeat visitors, and are a lot of fun to be around. I searched for months to find a ranch that would allow my daughter to actually have some fun on a horse. Pretty much every other ranch had real restrictions on what was allowed. I'm definitely a novice, and find the riding here a little challenging in a good way. My daughter, however, is excited that she'll be put with a group of more aggressive riders. Every effort is made to make visitors aware of horse safety. But face it: if you're on a 1000 lb horse a lot can happen very quickly. Anybody who rides is fully aware of this, and if you are not, this is probably not the ideal vacation spot for you. The wranglers are extremely skilled, professional, and friendly, but they work on a real ranch, and they are not going to be too patient with people doing stupid stuff. I'll update this review when we get back home, but my first impression is "thank heaven that a few places like this still exist!". I'd strongly suggest reading the hidden reviews. OK. Can't say enough about Bull Hill! Went for a mother daughter weekend and we couldn't have been happier! We will definitely be back! The horses were great, the lake was amazing (they have a paddleboat, a couple row boats, and 2 new kayaks - so I would recommend bringing any other lake type things that you may want - tubes to float on etc. there is a swimming dock that you can swim out to and jump off of). The food was great, all the drinks you want - you pretty much just make yourself right at home. The family that runs it is great, we had such a great time getting to know them all, and the other guests were great as well. Stayed in the maverick cabin, phenomenal! They had a fan which was a life saver since we were there end of July and it was HOT out. Again, can't say enough, highly recommend this place to everyone and I can't wait to go back next summer! read more

She had always talked about how this place was her "happy place" and that getting married there was her dream. I can definitely see why! It is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to. I can't say enough good things about my time at Bull Hill. This was my second visit and I plan on making it an annual trip. This time, headed up with four girlfriends who flew in from Denver. You are made to feel welcome and "at home" from the second you arrive and your time there is truly tailored to how you want to experience Bull Hill. Horseback riding, skeet shooting, hanging at the lake...your call! The horses are incredibly well taken care of and they roam loose at night on the property. The food is top notch and they take special note of those with food sensitivities. What made this trip extremely special was our wrangler, Michelle. Funny, accommodating, knowledgeable, and sweet. Our family just spend 5 days here and we left with some of the best memories! The employees here are some of the nicest people we have ever met. You let them know what you want to do for the day and they make it happen. There are daily horse trail rides, skeet shooting, a lake for swimming and fishing. Endless wildlife to find and the hot tub was a nice treat at the end of the day. There is no shortage of hearty, home cooked meals and the mess hall was always stocked with snacks, ice water, tea, lemonade and alcohol. Relaxing, fun, memorable family "camping" trip. During our stay, at least one person per day, sustained a serious injury from a horse related accident. The barn was a filthy mess. One giant stink hole of manure and urine. No one ever cleaned it out. They didn't seem to care about the guests or animals . One little boy was so excited to ride a horse and pretend to be a cowboy until he actually got on the horse and it wouldn't even budge for him. My friend asked for her stirrups to be shortened and they told her they where fine. And I guess they where until the "beginner" horse bucked on her and she lost her stirrup because they were to long and she fell off the horse . She is still going to the doctor for back problems. If you go, insist on your safety, if you are uncomfortable with something speak up and don't do it. Don't let them ignore you or try to pacify you. read more

I have been to Bull Hill six times and each time is better than the last. I have consistently been impressed with the personal treatment we receive in picking out our horses - they have animals for every skill level. After our first trip, we have actually specified the saddle and horses we want to ride and they are ready to go when we are. The staff have always been friendly and attentive to our needs, wants, and even work hard to fulfill wishes. I have been to other "dude ranches" and can state that for the money, the experience at Bull Hill is dirt cheap. Other ranches have scheduled rides and you go where they take you. You pay by the hour for riding and it is never as open and free as at Bull Hill. The scenery and terrain are second to none in NE Washington and you get to experience the beauty and grandeur up close and personal. You/your group can request where you want to go and call the shots - the staff is there to do for you what you want. I rank vacations at the Hill right up there with St. Maarten and all inclusive resorts in Hawaii and Mexico. Looking forward to visit number 7!!! Happy Trails till then! read more
