Spent a weekend camping & hiking here and it's lovely! This state park occupies a large swath of…read morethe coastline of Lake Albert Lea, and is very convenient to the city of Albert Lea and 35-W. As such, this is a very easy park to get to. I camped in one of the two large drive-in campgrounds, both of which are very well-appointed with amenities. There are drinking water faucets distributed liberally throughout the campgrounds, and there are large restroom facilities at each, which are kept clean and have plenty of toilets, sinks, and showers. They even have little stations to plug in devices to charge them. Probably my biggest gripe with this park is that the restroom facilities are so brightly lit, right next to where the campsites are, that it strongly impacts the outdoorsy ambience. Many campers might not mind that & might even prefer it. But between that and the audible proximity to the Interstate, I prefer to feel a little more isolated. I saw lots of big trailers plugged into outlets, and there are also group camps, rentable cabins, and backpacking sites. I definitely want to return here to try one of those backpacking sites along the east side of the lake. Speaking of the lake, I did spot a number of fishing and canoeing options being taken advantage of. With all the beautiful lakefront area here, this is a really cool place for that kind of activity. I was surprised that the office wasn't staffed when i arrived mid-afternoon on a Saturday in June (2022) to check in; I wasn't able to get my hands on a physical map, and I had to put cash in an envelope to get some firewood. But other than that, it felt like a well-staffed park. All things considered, I will defintely return from the Twin Cities, and if it's more convenient to where you live, you can consider that a good thing! EDIT: I did indeed return two weeks later and try out a packpacking site. Loved it! It's way more remote over there. Really beautiful and lots of cool, well-posted trails. There was a big stash of firewood they'd prepared for free; do they do that for everyone? It's great! You can get to all the backpacking sites via canoe. Bumping my rating from 4 stars to 5!

Dog friendly, super nice owners, and close to several parks with hiking trails. There are a few sites that would be perfect for a bigger group (3+ campers). Reasonably priced, Very clean, very quiet and nicely landscaped. Met Kurt, son of the owner- what a super friendly guy. There is a nice walking path around the lake. All the RV spaces are gravel, spacious, wide for parking our tow, and with a portion of grass. It was easy to maneuver our 43 ft Class A Coach. We backed into spot #7, for two nights. Perfect !! My husband is on a mission to try all of the local Friday Night Fish Fries. The area near the bar was already full but there was another room with empty tables. As we sat there, the musician began setting up to start a set at 6pm. Service was phenomenal through our visit. Everything came out fast, whether from the bar or the kitchen. We weren't kept waiting when we were ready to leave, either. My husband had two beers while we were there, and I was happy they had a cider on tap. We had the cheese curds for our appetizer. The amount was great. The coating on these was quite thick, making them crunchy in contrast to the chewy-gooey texture served most places. My husband enjoyed the fish fry. The crunchy coating was like that on the curds, making these easy to pick up and eat as one might with a chicken tender. His sides were good. I had the ranch chicken wrap with grilled chicken, and coleslaw on the side. We agreed that the food was fine. Not out of this world, but good. Really, we agreed that the service impressed us the most.

The beach part is just gorgeous too. Water is pretty peaceful. On a non windy day like this, it was easy to ride the jet ski around. There was a decent sized separated area to go swimming in, which sd enjoyed. I loved that there was a playground and also a small splash pad nearby. My toddler loved it. Definitely plan to be back some day to explore more of the park, as we were mainly on the water.

I loved every minute of it and it was so much fun to be able to go there are stay, rent a boat, fish, swim, sit by the fire, and grill with some good people. We may have been rowdy at times, but Bob and Charmayne were always the best, even though they have retired now. The fresh donuts, diner style eating, and the small town style cabins were always the best. If you are expecting a 5 star Hilton Style resort, you shouldn't be going to these real Minnesota style campsites, but if you enjoy the outdoors, a relaxing escape from every day life, and a friendly place to enjoy... I 100% recommend this place. I will be bringing my family here now that my kids are old enough to enjoy it as well.
