Tonight I attended a virtual tasting of a sample kit from Nelson's Green Brier Distillery that Riverside hosted. The sample kit was available for pickup at the store after registering for the event. It was cool to learn about the family history behind the distillery from the brothers hosting the virtual tasting. Each sample whiskey or liquor has a history behind its making. The sample bottles were a generous amount of spirit. Each tasting was uniquely delicious, the Belle Meade Bourbon Reserve was strong but had a smooth after taste, the Belle Meade Bourbon Classic tasted like a quality classic bourbon, Nelson's Greenbrier Tennessee Whiskey was a unique blend of apple crisp, cinnamon, and barley flavors, and Louisa's Liqueur was a yummy dessert to top off the night. Talked quite awhile with Travis in the beer section and found some great "treasures" in their back shelf of limited items, including a Dogfish Head 120 from 2015 & 2016. Castello de Gabbiano is an excellent red Italian wine. Riverside has one of the largest selections in the Chattanooga area. The layout of this place makes it very easy to find that rare selection. Not just wine, since they have most you could think of and may be able to order what they don't. I have traveled to several countries like Italy and finding Gabbiano here after staying in their 12th century castle vinard is great. read more

They even sell some food items, cheese, crackers, yummy pickled stuff, olives, etc. Everything you need for a great day of drinking and snacking. AND if you haven't been to one of their free tasting events, you are so missing out! Get on their mailing list and you'll get all kinds of notices of free wine tastings, free beer tastings, free liquor tastings, and free food. C'mon, man! What more could you want? As a wine fiend, I really wanted to love this place, because for a while it had the best (practically only!) selection of great French wines in town. But unfortunately, I have always had a strange customer service experience when visiting or calling this store. The folks working there were either dismissive, weirdly silent, or borderline rude. Maybe this is because I'm on the younger side, so they figured I wasn't a worthwhile client. (You'd think they'd at least be a bit nicer at the checkout, once they saw that I was buying a ton of wine, but alas.) The last straw was when I spoke with them recently, looking for a time-sensitive gift for a friend's wedding: a particular top-shelf bourbon. The person who was 'helping' me very brusquely and dismissively said, "Oh, that's not distributed in Tennessee." "Are you sure? It's bottled in Tullahoma..." [checks with colleague] "[angrily] Just because it's bottled in Tennessee doesn't mean it's distributed in Tennessee. Our bourbon expert says it isn't distributed in Tennessee." Ok, then. I promptly called a newer wine and spirits store in Chattanooga (where I've always had really warm and welcoming customer service). They knew exactly what I was talking about and had it. I really wanted to like this place, but now that there are other options in town, I don't have to put up with being talked down to and receiving misinformation anymore. read more

Okay. I know NOTHING about wine. There; I admit it. Okay, I do have one factoid regarding this beverage: It's made from grapes! However, I DO have friends and strangers who really KNOW their grapes. So, when I've been agonising over a wine-gift, I've been dependent upon the kindness of strangers. However: Dependent upon Strangers, no more! While I'm not on a first name basis with any of the staff at Riverside, I don't feel as though they're strangers anymore. I walk in, tell 'em I need a bottle that has "Blah-blah" on the label, or a drawing of a possum or kangaroo, or has a certain colour when poured, and the price range I've budgeted. The staff finds the item for me very quickly (hmmm....too quickly?) I then reward my boldness with a bottle from their selection of fine single-malts. I've never been misdirected by the Riverside staff, I'd know; my friends aren't THAT kind. Beers, and accessories are offered, as well. I'll continue to drive past other purveyors of fine liquors, in order to darken this doorway when the occasion arises! read more

My go-to wine & spirit shop in Chattanooga, the best selection in town by far. Though their prices aren't the lowest, the variety and quality of items sold makes up for it. This place has everything-- from a great selection of wines at all price points, an awesome whiskey section, to a number of my favorite bitters. There's a beer shop next door, part of the same store but legally has to have a different entrance (stupid Tennessee liquor laws.) The assortment of beers is on point, though the guy working tonight left a lot to be desired. He had the personality of a rock and seemed annoyed to talk beer, or even give any customer service at all-- what a bummer. The employees there and in the main shop are usually right on top of it, hope tonight's experience was just a one time thing. Overall, usually a good, if not great, place for booze. read more

Good selection of wine and liquor. This is my go-to location in the North Shore when I need to pick something up on the way to a friend's house or a party. I've found the staff to be very helpful and friendly. I will say there have been a few times when I was a little disappointed with their wine knowledge (or lack thereof). We're from out of state. We're in shopping for 10+ minutes before we were approached and yelled at to put a mask on from their front door. We said ok we're from out of state and started walking to the door to put one on. As we were walking we tried to ask if they had a specific item and they yelled "ONCE AGAIN PUT A MASK ON BY OUR DOOR AND WE CAN HELP". A liquor store when traveling is important, you never know when you'll get bit by a snake and need some anti-venom. In need of some Vodka and beer anti-venom we were directed here. Not the easiest place to find, but worth the search. One of the best beer selections around and on top of it a growler fill station with an ever rotating selection. I guess the early reviews were in the opening phase and there were issues. I can only guess this however because I have never in 14 years of being of legal purchasing age ever experienced a friendlier, more knowledgeable, more professional staff at a liquor store. As far as price, I'm not a frequent shopper per say but what I am a cost oriented savvy purchaser in general... I have yet to find better pricing on liquor locally, I always have 4-5 staples I compare for easy judgement on price (in all facets of shopping, Not just liquor haha) and on spirits they are one of the best prices in chattanooga. Wine may be a slightly high but compared to the immediate area they are by far the best priced (wine at sams or Costco may be cheaper but that's not apples to apples especially on selection). All in all a great staff, great selection, and the BEST priced. read more

Love this place. Have found new drinks due to talking to the staff. Everyone is always super helpful and knowledgable and I have an amazing stocked bar due to their expertise. Review for skimmers: Pros: abundant selection, organized, clean environment. Cons: unwelcoming staff(which can make a huge difference when you're wanting to spend $100+), uncompetitive prices. For a liquor store, this place is very aesthetically inviting. There is easy access from Hwy 27 or if you're grocery shopping at Whole Foods. lt is very clean, well-organized, and has an abundant selection to choose from. The staff are, like a previous reviewer said, very hit-and-miss. I met the owner one week night right before closing, and I was surprised at how friendly I was greeted since it was about 5 minutes til 9. I was in search of a specific Vihno Verde, and although I didn't find it I was recommended a substitute that was delicious! The next several times I stopped by, I expected the same welcoming experience, but instead I was glared at from behind the register the entire time. I wasn't greeted. I wasn't asked if I needed assistance. I understand business. I don't expect to be treated special, but I expect respect. Recently, when I was at the register the woman kept stalling. Then, after she handed back my ID, and I swiped my card, she asked me PULL OUT MY ID AGAIN because she "wasn't sure she read my birthdate right." I was extremely confused, because I had already bought the bottle of wine. She held onto my ID and started asking me to recall information from it. "What's your full name?" "What's your date of birth?" "What's your address?" There were people waiting in line behind me, I was short on time, so I was about to just leave that nonsense when she finished the interrogation and let me leave. Riverside Wine and Events did the beer and wine for our wedding in July. They were extremely easy to work with, set up a time to go over what we wanted to order and had everything at the venue so we didn't have to worry about anything the day of the wedding. They have a great selection of wine and kegs and the price point was great. Will definitely use them again in the future for any large parties that I host. If you are using a venue where you can bring in your own alcohol, definitely call Riverside Events! read more

n my opinion, the service here is defined by arrogance, insolence and incompetence. After spending 30 minutes searching the store an trying to purchase a very expensive gift item from Riverside, I found what I thought was the item but Mac (or Mack) promised to do some research to confirm a release date and final pricing. When he didn't call as promised, I followed up by telephone. His response was, "I'm in a meeting, let me call you back." That's understandable, but he never called. Day 2, I tried again. Different excuse, but same result. Day 3, I spoke with 2 other Riverside employees and both deferred to Mac/Mack. They promised to have him call me immediately as the celebration date was arriving shortly. Neither Mac/Mack nor anyone else returned my call. I made one final attempt the morning of the celebration only to have Mack say he was in a "Managers' Meeting" and would call me back. He never did. As a result, I went to IMBIBE and made my very expensive purchase there. Probably won't ever spend that much money on a single anniversary bottle again, but if I did, I know it won't be wasted at Riverside. When I mentioned my experience to several friends out of frustration, they were able to guess that it was Riverside Beverage before I ever said the name of the store. Apparently, Riverside has enough business that their reputation for service doesn't matter. read more
