Seth was our server, he was friendly and knowledgeable and attentive. Since it was our first time here, and first time actually trying (good) wine, he was able to provide us with samples and give us his opinion on foods. Started off with the pretzel bread, it was amazing! Such a cool concept (they also use the pretzels as croutons in the salad) speaking of salad, the Caesar salad we ordered was wonderful, crispy and cold. We ordered the drunken shrimp which was delicious, crispy, and complimented very well with a combination of the flavors and sauces. I ordered the seafood risotto and usually I'm not a fan of risotto or it's not my go to, it ended up being one of the best things I've had! The flavors were so good combined and the seafood was nicely cooked and seasoned. My bf got a dish (I forgot what it was called) but had noodles, chicken over a lemon sauce and capers) his was fantastic as well! The fingerling potatoes also had a lot of flavor, almost an au gratin style! Of course, we couldn't finish dinner and my drinking a whole bottle of wine without dessert, we got the smores dessert which was amazing. I don't like oaky whites or tanniny reds, but was able to find four whites to try: 2024 Sunrise on the James, which was semi-sweet and tart from the blood orange; 2024 Island Time, semi-sweet with a tart pineapple flavor; 2021 Vidal Blanc, which I thought had a funny smell and taste; 2023 River Breeze, which was citrusy but also kind of watery. I sat outside and listened to a talented guitar on the covered patio. The service was top notch, and the owners were really friendly, but I personally didn't like any of the wines I tried.

The grapes are a bit younger (oldest vines about five years) so the flavors are sharp and punchy. There drinkable now but also will age well. They have quite a variety on the tasting menu - from port style, whites and reds. We had a great tasting experience with one of the owners and felt comfortable sitting and drinking wine after our wine tasting. No snacks yet, but they are planning on getting.

The venue and atmosphere are lovely, the red wine flight is OK, but only 2 out of the 4 wines are worth recommending (Tannat and #1 Red Blend). The Zachariah needs aging. The menu has a nice variety, that should please most anyone, but the food was disappointing overall. The lobster tempura from the sharable menu (4 skewers with1/2 of a 3 oz. lobster tail on each [$39] is completely unseasoned and pretty much flavorless, so the lobster must be farm raised. The smash burger is served only well done because as the server said "That's the way we do it here". Other restaurants manage medium to medium-well, but this kitchen doesn't. The sharable menu boasts 1/2 lb of seasoned chilled jumbo shrimp. The shrimp were far from jumbo, more like the 45 count per lb size (large but not extra large, and certainly not jumbo), and lacked any seasoning except cocktail sauce on the side with so much horseradish it burns the sinuses. The service was good until it came time to pay the bill. I bought a bottle of the Zachariah red wine to give as a gift to someone with that name, and the waitress added it to the food bill and then added a 20% tip that also included the cost of the wine. Additionally, they collected the 6.3% served food tax to the cost of the bottle of wine, which is illegal. When I brought this to the server's attention, she refused to correct this, saying "This is how we do it here". Lastly, I paid cash and the server tried to pocket the $10 change and when I asked her for it she condescendingly asked, "You really want your change?" I said that I made no mention that she should keep it, and had already tipped her 20%. She was obviously annoyed and when she returned thrust the $10 at me, and without a word turned and walked away.

We were hoping to find a vineyard and found Spring Run on one of our searches. We were unable to reach anyone by telephone at first but it was already kind of late in the day so we just drove over there and unfortunately for us, we happened to go when it was closed. We called while we were in the parking lot and the super friendly owner answered and apologized that she was closed that day but talked us into visiting them the next day. We almost didn't make it the next day but we managed it and I'm so happy that we did! The owners are super friendly and explained the history of the vineyard and it was so beautiful and peaceful to just sit there and enjoy some wine and cheese and talk to the owners. We did wine flights and my favorite was their blackberry wine which we both ended up taking bottles of home with us. I thought the blackberry wine would be too sweet as I'm not a fan of sweet wine but it was more fruity than sweet and had the perfect taste. We also tried the Goot Essa Cheese and Rip Rap crackers and I can honestly say that it was some of the best cheese I had ever tasted! It's a 3 year sharp cheddar and it went perfectly with our wine flights! We also ended up taking a couple souvenir shirts with us as a memory to our awesome experience. I have family in Virginia and will definitely be making time to visit this vineyard again when I make it back!
