If you want a nice looking yard, Riverside is a good choice. The finished product is beautiful, however, if you are wanting your project done in a reasonable time, keep looking. They were supposed to start in February but didn't get finished until mid-April (we paid in full in Nov). Their communication with us and each other is terrible. If you talk to the owner, Jeff, he doesn't relay the info to the workers, or it appears that he doesn't. If you talk to his wife, she doesn't relay the info to Jeff or the workers. It was very frustrating, not to mention the guys that came did not speak a lick of English, the foreman even had a hard time communicating with us. Jeff's main excuse for the delay was Covid, he had it 3 times, which, I believe, but that never stopped his business from running. His crew was still working while Jeff was out sick, why would Jeff being sick delayed our project that we had planned out with him since November, I do not know. The crew would come for an hour, maybe 2 and then leave and we would not see them back for a week or more (usually more). I did change a few things, like plant choices and the river rap but both were minimal changes but took Jeff about 2 weeks to actually change it. The change took the guys maybe 20 mins.... But yet it was my fault there was the delay. We asked for the job to be completed by April 1st, we had family coming into town, they said it would be. We had our plants in and 1/3 rock, no lightening, no extended walkway and it sat like that for 2 weeks and that's when I emailed Jeff to finish or give us the remainder of our money back. They were there that week and finished. It's been a month since they have been done and we have one light that is the wrong color, we are still waiting on them to change it. My front yard does look beautiful and overall they did a wonderful job, it was just a headache to get them to work and to finish. If you're a more patient person than I am, then I do recommend this company. read more

We shopped around a bit for landscape rock and settled on Riverside Rock and Boulder. Great prices, excellent variety of rock and very responsive and willing to address our questions. We also got a quote for paver installation and found they had a very good price. We'll use them in the near future - we have to budget for that part. read more

I love RR&B. Their package prices are by far the most inexpensive. All of their staff is really friendly, and it's so fun to walk their nursery and pick every plant, tree, rock and paver. They just finished my backyard at my new build and I couldn't be happier. They have financing options and the owner made recommendations for which package fit my needs and my budget. This is in response to owners statement below That's a cop out, Your not answering because you have no good answer for the poor workmanship and extremely poor customer service. I'm happy to post any conversations between you and I by email. Let the public decide if I'm unreasonable. Step up. I'll be moving to google reviews next then better business reviews. This is a follow up to my negative review 9 months ago, please read original. Before doing business with this company also read the negative reviews on google and note they've had a couple complaints with the better business bureau although now resolved. How this company remains in business is beyond comprehension. Fast forward, contractor board finally has meeting with the owner (Jeff) and myself to review his work at my property . This is after no use of the pond since it was built in Aug of 2020. The pond leaked horribly to the point it was causing damage to the integrity of the cinder block wall. My neighbors threatened to sue me for the damage to their wall from all the water leaking thru. I've Attached pics, you can see the damage, this is my neighbors side of the wall. It didn't take long for the board to determine the pond did indeed need to be repaired. We scheduled a time couple weeks later. Their plan was to put a bentonite product into the pond which supposedly seals it. Mind you they were also to replace the failed pump. They poured the bentonite into the pond before they replaced the pump, the bentonite is suppose to cycle thru the pond which requires a pump. The worker turned on the old pump and it didn't work. We knew that already. I explained to the worker the pump was to be replaced because it didn't work, worker called Jeff owner and after the call I was then told Jeff denied the replacement of pump. Then 20 min later he came back and said they would replace the pump but it would be the next day. Meanwhile this bentonite had turned into 6 -8" of sludge. Worker came back the next day hooked up pump. I had my doubts the sludge would move thru the pump but they assured me all was fine. Ten days went by and there was still 8" of sludge at the bottom of the pond and completely gray water. (Pond was suppose to be for fish) i sent a text with pictures and their response was it takes up to 2 months. If you google bentonite sealant for ponds it says Max 2 to 3 days. This is just one of the Many lies Jeff told. Meanwhile my neighbor calls and says there is a puddle of gray water that came up in her yard thru the cinder block wall. I suggested all along Riverside just remove the pond and be done with it. Couple days later Jeff sends an email stating they will remove the pond, however if there is any damage to my wall I'm responsible. You can only imagine how well I took that statement. So argument ensued thru text and ended with him telling me I now have war on my hands with him. Lol... and then said if I posted anything negative on social media he will sue me for slander, now keep in mind I have pictures and the contractors board agreeing with my position so absolutely no need to say anything not true. Pictures don't lie. He must have thought about it overnite, they sent an email the next day saying they would remove pond but nothing about me being responsible for damaged wall. Couple weeks later it was scheduled for removal. Once removed and filled back in with rocks two days later the entire area was wet. I let it go for 16 days thinking this would dry out. After 16 days I sent an email showing pics of the area also the paint that needed to be completed and the cracked cinder block caused by the removal of pond with sledge hammers. I really should post his reply, he basically told me to pound sand I replied to the email and stated my case. I was told I was a bully and it was my fault because my entire yard was wet . I was then threatened and told they will sue for defamation and the cost of removing the pond. So here we are, contacted my attorney today so will update again after it's legally resolved. I'm a contractor in three states, I've never had to go in front of the contractors board in 17 years of business. If a contractor/business goes so far that a customer has to goto to the contractors board to resolve you really need to step away and not do business with them read more

I understand that Covid is throwing a wrench in things. Materials may be lacking, or less people to do the work, or whatever other effect. However, this doesn't mean that this information cannot be communicated proactively. Everything started well...until the day the work was supposed to start. The 2 to 3 day job (which I was told) took just over a week. Which isn't THAT much of a difference, but being left every day wondering whether anyone was going to show up was frustrating. There was zero communication about the schedule or plan. There were delays, but I only found out about them after calling and hunting down Jeff (the owner). I feel like this could have easily been communicated ahead of time so we were aware of the plan, and any delays. Instead we were just twiddling out thumbs wondering when/if anyone was showing up every day (some days they didn't). They did show up on a Saturday, which was great. But at this point it was playing catch up. And again, none of it communicated. The work was pretty solid, I'll give them that. But you can't leave customers hanging in the wind with no idea of what's happening and when work will be done. Side note - I did finally get some proactive communication of when the guys were showing up. But it wasn't until they had to deliver the boulders to finish the job and I had to pay them. read more

We really wanted to like this company, but we cannot recommend them after the experience we have had. First, the good: our backyard looks great. The crew that did the work were skilled, hard workers. Despite a language barrier, they worked with us and did what we asked. They were respectful. When we asked that the project be done in time for a birthday party, the crew worked 12 hours on a Saturday to get it done. Next, the challenges: there was a near total lack of communication. We sent emails, calls, voicemails, texts, and went in person multiple times trying to get on the same page. Workers showed up without notice and had no idea what they were supposed to be working on. The multiple invoices we received were incorrect from the start. When we continually asked that the numbers be updated to accurately reflect the work being done, we were told the invoice can't be changed. So, we were surprised when a line item we never heard of, or agreed to, was added after the final walk-thru! The "resolution": We ended up paying $1,000 more than the work that was done (according to the rates they sent us the entire time). They charged us an installation fee per square foot for pavers that are piled loose in our garage as extras, among other discrepancies on the invoices. When we called to ask for fair pricing, the owner started throwing out completely new numbers and saying he was "giving us a smokin' deal". When we clarified that a line item had been added after all the work had been done, he rudely threatened to get his lawyer to put a lien on our house if we didn't pay and then he hung up on us. We realized he wouldn't listen and honor the initial prices. We thought this was an honest business; instead they resorted to bullying. We will not work with this company anymore, but God has provided the money for us to pay what they want and we pray they will find peace in their business. It was a hard life lesson to learn, and we'd like to save others from experiencing the fiasco we've dealt with for the past three months. My wife selected RR&B after speaking with someone in their office. They came out reasonably quickly and provided a quote. The quote was very reasonable, however, because I wasn't home when the rep was at the house, I called and asked if he could briefly return so that I could clear up a couple of details in the quote. I was all ready to write a deposit check at that point. That was three phone calls ago, and three weeks ago. Each time I called I was polite, identified who I was explained why I was calling, and the rep swore someone would be calling me back in a day or so. Fast forward to now, and still crickets... I don't normally write such reviews, but I have to apply how I conduct myself professionally, in terms of conduct and ethics, to businesses/individuals when deciding how to rate services rendered or do business with them at all! I have policies as to how quickly I return emails and/or phone calls to my customers and hold myself proudly to that standard. If RR&B has too much business, that's understandable. This is pretty standard with landscaping companies at the moment. But that fact was never relayed to me. The actions, or inactions as it were, of this business do not bode well for their longevity if they treat all customers or potential customers in a similar manner. read more

We were getting different prices on rip rap and 1 inch screened to landscape over an acre. The man behind the desk was so unmotivated when asked if he had a particular 10 ton type, like we were an inconvenience. He strolled to the back of the lot, when he returned several minutes later, he said he could maybe get us 4-5 but it would have a lot of mud on it from all of the rain, otherwise it wouldn't be until the middle of next week. Little to no eye contact, no introduction until after we were walking away and just plane blah! It was cheaper and closer than who we chose to use, all due to the guy behind the desk. Sad Update: I didn't go in this time, the husband handled it! He wanted to give another chance since someone responded to first review, glad he did. Much better experience this go around. I have been trying to get my gravel done since February. When I tried to order they told me that another customer wanted the same gravel and that they would call me back because they wanted to order the gravel at the same time. Weeks went by and I kept calling to follow up. I was upset and told the customer service person that it wasn't fair that I had to wait for somebody else to decide if they wanted their gravel done when I was ready to purchase mine. I have tried calling numerous amount of times and no one ever answers the phone and the voicemail is full so I can't leave a message. 2 weeks ago I finally got ahold of somebody and told them that I wanted to order the gravel. She said she would call me back. As of yet, I haven't received a call back. Tomorrow is may 1st. 3 months later and I still don't have gravel. Horrible Experience and Customer service!! This company lacks professionalism and integrity. We ordered 2 tons of rock for delivery. Kim identified the sample of rock wrong, and sent us the wrong product. It arrived a day late and we had to call multiple times. Eventually, we drove down to their site and picked out the right rock and hauled it ourselves. Kim prommised to pick up the wrong rock that they left outside our customers house. Later that night, our customer called and said the pile of rock is still laying there in front of her home! Being a proudly owned Veteran company, we left our dinner tables and shevled it ourselves and hauled it at 9 at night. Riverside Rock and Boulder does not hold true to thier word! They say they are Veteran owned but don't operate by integrity or honesty. They're a discrase to the Veteran community and a dishonor to those they serve. Do what you say you're going to do! I was extremely happy to use a local owned company, but overall this was a total fail. I ordered 35 ton of rock it came quickly to the house, unfortunately it was the incorrect color ( that's on me for not checking when it arrived) I assume by the owners answer that I should have stated I ordered a white/grey/pink rock and the one I have is red. I also ordered dirt which was due to be at the house 3 different times the original date it never showed, I called the lady explained the driver forgot and it will be there tomorrow or latest early the morning after. It didn't come till the 3rd day at 2pm not early morning, which is when I was moving the rock and dirt with equipment I rented to do so. I called that day a few times I finally left a message telling them to cancel the dirt and refund all my money for it and it showed half hour later (I live 2 miles from the place?!?).. last the owner was supposed to quote me for landscaping 3 times now and cancelled twice and still hasn't shown up.. it's been 2 weeks since the last time they said he would be here. disappointed with the whole thing because first impression was they were going to be great all the ladies were helpful, the company and rock was just a let down. Quote was not itemized for parts and labor, like you would get at a car auto repair shop. It was a very general small one-line quote. You are not 100% sure what you are getting: how much you are being charge for parts; what the parts/brands are; and what you are being charged for labor? The owner Jeff said that he did a walk through with me. However, this is not true. Jeff never did a walk through with me / never discussed anything with me on site before the work. Also, I did order an extra product / service and I never received it. Didn't even receive the part so I could install it myself if I wanted. The owner Jeff would not refund what I paid for and did not receive. I guess now I understand why the quote was not itemized. My after-work estimate (based on home depot research) is I paid ~ $230 dollars in parts and $450 dollars in labor for ~ 2 hours ($225 / hour). You sir, are ripping people off. I'm a veteran too, come from a large family of veterans, and now we see how you treat other veterans. Reply - I said that I thought that there may be a backflow preventer on the main line, but I was not sure. Yes, you researched that and you did explain it to me over the phone that the backflow preventer needed to be installed on the main line and I said OKAY. (If you had done a site visit like you said you did, then you would have known that, and you wouldn't have needed the tech to send you a pic). The only products I received was a backflow preventer and a timer. The backflow preventer was installed and it appears to be a good job. It took your tech less than 5 minutes to attach the timer to the back of the house. Just screw it on with a screw gun and leave it. The backflow preventer and timer install only was fine since I need to bring piping to the back yard. I could have had that done before you got there if I had known. Why I decided to go through with this review is because I did not receive everything that I paid for. I did NOT receive a valve box and one was not installed, and you increased the price quote for that over the phone. You said that I could not receive a refund for the valve box or its install over the phone. If something cannot be delivered or done, then you don't pay for it. I highly recommend that someone perform a site visit before the install to ensure that the quote is correct. Also, I recommend that you itemize your quotes (i.e. parts versus labor, what the parts are, etc.) read more

We got a path and trash can landing on the side of the house. The work was done very fast and it looks awesome! We also had them place three large boulders in the front of our house. Instead of just placing and leaving, they dug out about four or five inches of soil and placed the boulders in to look more natural. We will call them back to put a pathway on the other side of the house and add curbing around the flower beds once we have the design we want. Glad we went with RR&B. read more

I Do not recommend this company to anyone. They do not know their own material... They have given me the wrong rock numerous times even after going in with a sample rock to compare. They are the rock experts, aren't they the ones you go to and trust that they know their rock, size and color? They not only screwed up our colors but also sent us the wrong size as well. To top it off, they then tried putting the blame on me for ordering the wrong color. They never admitted to making the mistake and never apologized either. I went back to them and gave them chance after chance, unfortunately I will not be going back there again.
