Riverside park has a number of perks: history, space, trails, a water park, and play equipment. It's lovely in the autumn, and a prime spot for local photographers taking family photos. We visit several times a week. Check out the boat that carried Grant to his final resting place, view the trail track from afar, and get some great exercise in nature while your kids have a blast!

Good playground for kids of all ages. No mulch was a big plus for us with a non-walker and a toddler. We liked the trains especially!

A great place to walk around. There are several trails and paths to explore. Take time to overlook the James River! It is beautiful! Be careful if you are going on the trail that goes along the mountain. It is extremely steep and can be slippery when it rains. There are various artifacts throughout the park to look at. There is a boat from the Civil War, a train from years ago, and the constitution tree. There are two playgrounds for kids and several picnic tables to enjoy an outdoor meal during this time. Take some time to expire this beautiful park

This park never disappoints! It's gorgeous all year round, with beautiful blooming trees in the spring, and colorful leaves in the fall. It's expansive, and great for a walk or to take the family to kill some time. I like to park in the lot near the new playground and splash park. This is one of my favorite spots in town to photography families and couples!

Just one pic I took of the spray park!!!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this park!!!! I cannot say enough great things! I love that when you turn in, the area on the right has swings and a playground that is smaller but is completely treed, so you can stay out of the sun here!!!! Drive a little further and there's another playground which is a bit in the sun but still great. If you follow the road around more and up the hill a bit, you'll find a really cool play area that is made to resemble a train. What I love about this part of the park is the playground is covered by a canopy on one side, so the slides don't get so hot! It's one of my pet peeves to have the slides so hot that they burn kids' legs! In the same area is one of the little library areas also, so you can pick up a book while the little ones are playing! The best part of the park, IMHO, is beside the train part...it's the spray park!!!! It supposedly opens at 11 but I've been told you can press the on button to start it earlier. I doubt this is true but who knows?! In any event, my niece LOVED it and admittedly, I found it pretty cool! I was also told they're looking to expand this area! I think it would be great, although even when it's busy there's still plenty space to have fun! There's also nothing like this in the 'Burg so definitely worth checking out! There's also plenty of room around this area to sit in the grass and also in the shade so when you pack your towels and waters and all, don't forget a big blanket to sit on or chairs! There's also a bathroom area behind it, which is very convenient! I saw many moms pack for the day and bring lunch along - just don't forget the sunscreen!!!!

Ask the Community - Riverside Park

R there flume rides and other rides there?

No, just some sprinkler type things and dumping buckets of water. There is a playground right next to it and then a smaller one in the shade trees to your right as you drive in.

Rose Garden - Mr. Elder's Rose Garden, Lynchburg

Walking around the Monument Terrace…read morehttps://www.yelp.com/biz/monument-terrace-lynchburg?hrid=9B9B_yeoJiezrcCxq_uOfw area, we found this lovely rose garden that is a level spot of land not far away. A walking path goes past a number of rose bushes and there are a few benches. There is also a great view of the James River valley from here. The caption reads, "Mr. Elder's Rose Garden. Lawrence Lloyd Elder (1896-1964) was a valued employee of the City of Lynchburg for over 34 years. His special domain was gardening and his responsibility the greenhouses in Miller Park where the city's flowers were raised for use in the parks. Later he was assigned the care of nearby municipal properties, including Monument Terrace, the Court House, the Post office and the roses in the Confederate Cemetery. In the adjoining remote area he also tended his personal garden of roses, which brought much pleasure to the many city employees in the area. In 1986, twenty-two years after Mir. Elder's death, the Blue Ridge Rose Society, in cooperation with the City of Lynchburg, undertook the revitalization of the garden as a Bicentennial Project. The Garden now serves as a depository of old Lynchburg Roses, all of which are known to have been grown and loved by the people of Lynchburg during its 200 year history."
