"Manager" says "her Boss" will not okay a pool closure until 2:00 pm. Seriously? We have to wait over an hour and a half in our cars for a rain check? Very poor customer service. This is a municipal pool. Great service to our taxpayers. This pool is marginally okay. Hygiene is iffy. Have seen lifeguards scoop poop out and ignore any sanitation procedures on two separate occasions. Thank you Moline.

I still have family in the area but rarely visit during the pool season. This time was different. I called ahead to see if they have adult swim, and they did from 12pm-1pm. This was before regular pool hours. I was greeted with a smile by the manager and she was excited about her first adult swimmer. I asked "for the day?" and she said "of the season!" I walked into the lockerroom and it was like a blast from the past. Nothing had changed. It was as I remembered it as a kid. Some may think that this would be disappointing, but it was not. For an outdoor pool only open 2 1/2 months a year there is little need for luxury. The pool was clean and empty. I was the only adult swimmer the entire week (except when I brought two friends friday.) The cost for the hour was $1!!!!!!!!! I got five hours of exercise in for $5 for the week. You cannot beat that. I also found out that during regular hours it was only $2 for the day. We decided to stay the last day and play. There is a baby pool, a kiddie pool area, a regulation lap area (3.5ft deep) and then the diving area. The diving area is 12ft deep and still has the low board and the high board. I dove a few times and it was a blast. I cannot remember when the last time I had such fun. I hope that more people will start to attend so that I can be assured a spot to swim outside next season.

For $250 your child and 24 of their friends can swim for 90 minutes. Its mostly available on Saturdays in the late afternoon (4pm) or evening (6pm). You swim for 90 minutes then go to a dry area that you're able to decorate to enjoy some good eats, presents and fun. You can make reservations over the phone months in advance. My son raved about the party! Just be warned parking/drop-off can be a bit tricky.

I have gone to out of state Y's and have had difficulties being recognized as a national member. It has to do with the fact that I joined at the river Plex, which is a fuzzy area as far as the national YMCA network. I've tried to work this through the YMCA administrative office in Peoria with no results. The workaround is when you try to go to an out-of-state facility and they don't see you in their national database, you have to go through the hassle of having that out-of-state Y call back to a Peoria YMCA to verify your membership. That is very disappointing since I travel frequently and run into this roadblock.

While soaking in front of a huge glass window in the hot tub, you can actually see the bald eagles nesting in the trees on the other side of the Illinois River! But that's about it. The place is being run by idiots, all on the city payroll -- usually guys wearing tight body shirts who spend most of their time working out on the machines while giving scant attention to the "problems" all around them. The workout machine area overlooking all of this is virtually deserted with no supervision and no customers, particularly in the evening hours after work (one has to wonder why?). This encourages pilfering and chronic theft in the locker areas, among other things. Then a white school bus arrives and unloads various people on a hot summer day, who stand around talking to each other in the Olympic-size pool, thus preventing anyone from swimming laps until after they and their white bus leave two hours later. If one tries to complain, a guy in a tight body shirt comes over to tell you your behavior is not acceptable. Meanwhile, the people off the bus could be drowning from no supervision for all he knows because, up to then, he and his "crew" are busy talking to various types about tomorrow's big game at the events center! It is a big political operation to keep everyone happy during the summer heat and the drop-dead months of cold winter, so they will not throw rocks or steal hubcaps (as well as cars parked nearby) due to the lack of personal safety on the streets around the place --which has been funded by tax monies -- that is from those who pay taxes. Somebody made a lot of money building this place. Then they use it to stick it to the taxpaying citizens to keep some people "happy" who are "needy" and unhappy for whatever reasons. But watch for Mr. Body T. Shirt to run for mayor next time around, since he knows how to make the big shots with the real money happy.

We arrived at 1:15 to be turned away because they didn't have enough people there. We were told they'd be closing at 1:30. When I informed them we had just driven 30+ miles to be there, and that it was disappointing that they'd be closing early, we were told "Well....it's not like we can control the weather." (Did I mention it was a warm and sunny day???) I would think the least they could have done was offer us guest passes to come back another day. They didn't. And they seemed put out that we were even there in the first place. Very poor customer service.
