Absolutely furious with this company. Furnace stopped working in our rental, called this company…read more They showed up to diagnose the issue and charged $69 for the call, said we needed a new control board, which we were told would be about $100 for the part. Vrobels called the next day to say that the parts/labor quote was wrong, and that it would be about $350. They had to order the part and scheduled an 8:00 AM install two days later. On the day it was to be installed, I received a call at home at 8:15, notifying me that their "tech" was being given a "debriefing" and was running late. Tech finally arrived almost 45 minutes late, installed the new control board in less than ten minutes. Then the tech started the heater and walked away...total time in residence, less than 10 minutes. Vrobels charged another $354.15 for control board and install. The control board can be purchased at full retail price online for about $150. So, we were charged $200 for seven minutes of labor, after tech was 40 minutes late. I called Vrobels to complain about the price. Was given an excuse about them having to mark up parts and needing to charge sales tax. I said that $200 for labor was excessive for 7 minutes work. Whatever, shrugged it off and figured I'd forget about it. Few days go by, go to rental to some some things, furnace isn't working. Call Vrobels to complain. Said they had a letter and a "check" waiting to send us, because they felt bad for overcharging, misdiagnosing the issue, being late etc. Owner comes to look at the furnace, says it now needs a new switch and work done on the exhaust fan. Couple of days till part comes in. Switch comes in, owner comes to install. Installs switch, tries to work on fan, says fan is losing pressure, needs new fan. Tests furnace for about an hour. Then gives bill for $136.05 for new switch - does not charge for labor out of the kindness of his heart (or because they screwed up the whole thing so badly so far). New switch can be purchased for full retail online for $53.66 with free 2 day shipping, but again, he charged us $136. So he marked up the price $83. Gives us thank you/apology letter and a check for $50. The letter stated that by accepting the check (for the gross overcharge and hassle of dealing with their late and inept tech) that the repair would not be covered by a warranty - despite the parts carrying a one year manufacturer's warranty. Vrobels then calls with quote for new exhaust fan with install for $365...which again, had a huge markup. We will be calling elsewhere for the rest of the repair.

I have been a customer of Gary & Sons from the first day they were in business. Their first project…read morefor me was to install a spa and the work was done efficiently, quickly and professionally. Since then I have used Gary & Sons for any needs I have had at my house from installation of zero clearnace fire places. Central Air Conditioning, which included running new duct work, installation of an above ground pool, and yearly maintenace checks on all the equipment to keep the warranty in force. Garys was the only company in the Dubois Area that would even give me a price quote on doing residental service. Everyone else in the area seems to only want the commercial business. Garys has always been professional, efficient, neat in the approach from quote to completiong. I would recommend them to anyone with confidence that they will do a great job as they always have

I would give them zero stars if I could…read more I purchased a new furnace from Gary & Sons in the fall of 2024. I knew I was overpaying at $7800 for their bottom of the line furnace, but I was drawn in by their promise of excellent service. I bought their maintenance program which is supposed to get me a discount on parts and priority service scheduling. In Feb 2026, we had a power surge that took out our furnace. It wasn't covered under their warranty due to the power surge. Frustrating, but certainly understandable. Gary & Sons came out to diagnose it same day (Friday). The repair tech installed a control board that immediately shorted out again, and he determined it also needed a blower motor. Those needed to be ordered, which were supposed to be overnighted (Saturday). I heard nothing from them on Saturday, so I called again and was told the parts didn't get ordered until Saturday, and they were expected Monday. No word from them Monday until I called to check what the status was in the afternoon. I was told they should arrive Tuesday. I was only then told the repair would be $1809.67. Prior to this point I had not been given an estimate. I asked for a breakdown by parts and labor and was denied. My request to speak with a supervisor was also denied. I was told other customers have asked for a breakdown of parts and labor and it has never been honored, which seems like an odd practice given they claim members are supposed to get a 15% discount on parts. By looking at repair parts online, I estimated parts to be around $800-900, so the balance was labor. The $68 member discount on my estimate didn't seem to jive with their advertised discount, but again, how could I resolve this when I wasn't allowed to talk to anyone else? I was also sent an invoice for $688 for the original diagnostic service call and control board that the tech replaced and immediately shorted out. So all said and done, Gary & Sons wanted $2,497.67 to fix my brand new furnace. When parts did arrive Tuesday around 3pm, I asked for them to be installed same day since again I was supposed to get priority scheduling and Gary & Sons advertises 24x7 emergency service. "No" again. On March 27, I called to address the past due invoice of $688. Harry returned my call, and asked what I thought was fair to settle the outstanding invoice. I told him I was happy to pay for the diagnostic service visit, but not for the control board the technician shorted. He claimed that I wouldn't have been charged for 2 control boards if I had done the repair with them. That was impossible to know given the $2500 in invoices and quotes and their refusal to let me speak to a supervisor. He said the diagnostic call should have been $608 (they hadn't discounted the parts), and he needed $300 to call it complete. Given their tech ruined the board, and we were talking about a furnace I just paid $7800 for that seemed a bit outrageous. However, to be done with Gary & Sons I am happy to oblige. If you want to be overcharged at every turn and get lack-luster second-rate service, Gary & Sons is the company for you. Otherwise, there are lots of companies out there that will take far better care of you.
