4.5 Stars for the bar/drinks (we neither ate nor stayed here)…read more The bartenders were both very friendly. Also, they serve real sized drinks here: pouring 35ml of whiskey (unlike so many other places in the UK that pour a paltry 25ml). Also, they not only had a great selection of whiskeys from which to choose, but they also had some recommended whiskey lists which did not disappoint (the Glen Scotia 15 and the Benromach 15 were both big hits with my tastebuds). I am only deducting 1/2 a star for the ambience, because it is nothing special. But, if you want something nice to sip on, and some friendly bartenders to engage with, make your way to Ceilidh Place.

This is far and away the best food in ullapool*…read more The place absolutely feels like the seaside cottage restaurant that it is. It's been around longer than you and I combined. The food however is a solid mix of traditional and new, ranging from fish n chips to lamb shanks; and oh man that lamb, it came served on the bone, but then promptly feel right off in the most tender pile of meat ever. The fish and chips were the best I had in Scotland this past trip, the burger (late night visit) is nothing to write home about (it is huge tho, only get if you're starving). The folks who work here are super nice, and you're more than welcome to get a drink at the bar and go sit by the water as you wait for your table - you can watch the ferry go out and have a pint , ptery much the most highlands thing one can do. --------- * And everyone knows it, make a reservation or you won't be eating herr

There are a few tables across the road so we grabbed a beer to take in the beautiful view of Loch Broom. We put our name down for dinner since there was a wait and were seated after about 30 minutes. We poured over the menu and the large list of specials up on the wall. Chuck decided his first meal would have to be fish, while I chose a roasted lamb shank. We were not disappointed. When the food came out, the portions were very large but it is high quality. The piece of fish was almost larger than the plate. My lamb was cooked to well that it just fell off the bone with the slightest touch and melted in my mouth. It was the perfect way to start our adventure in the highlands. The ingredients were very fresh and locally sourced. We returned for dinner again for our last night. They were slam packed and we were unable to put our names in for a table. Instead, we went to sit in the bar section, which is first come first serve. Thankfully, we were able to get two seats at the bar and sat for a few rounds before ordering some food. We saw the burgers on our first trip and had to order them for our last meal. These were also very large. It is served with a tomato chutney which was very tasty. As we wrapped up, an accordion player started a set in the back corner. He was really good and everyone in the bar was having a great time. If I ever find myself in Ullapool again, I hope the Arch Inn will still be there to enjoy another meal.

I had a very tasty salmon salad, a soup rather classic but good and excellent French fries - nicely served in a metal pot (like the ones you use for plants). The price for the lot was under £13. The place is separated in 2 spaces : one room which look like more a "real" restaurant room, and the other one which is smaller and cosier, with a bar and a chimney. We had our lunch in this one. We could sat by the window and the view on Ullapool bay was beautiful. I would definitely recommend that place for a nice and cheap lunch in a cosy place.

When we saw that guests nees to wait outside in order to get seated, we were very pleased as we thought that this is the high class restaurant we were lookong for. However, it went bad from there. The cuttlery, the place mat and the glasses had stains. The seats were quite deep, too. When our order was taken, the waiter forgot to ask us about drinks. Maybe he was too busy to tell which food was NOT available. It all boiled down to fish'n chips or salmon. And a fish soup for starters. While waiting for the starters, the missing drinks were dsicoeverd and fixed, so far, so nice. The starters themselves were quite unspectacular. The salmon was ordinary, the soup was OK. We also sat close to the kitchen (table 7) and has the luck to listen to most of the conversation going on there, which was not very appropriate. The continuous clapping of the kitchen door also made the wall shaking, which were next to our table. Finally the main course arrived and it seemed as if everything could be forgotten. The haddock was excellent, but then: he last bite of the side dish contained a stone! We were fortunate enough, not to bite strongly on it. We decided to pay the bill as fast as possible and left.

It was close to town, a very short walk and you are on the sea front. Breakfast in the morning was just as great, everything you needed and nothing you dont. REDRUM REDRUM. The interior is very dated and worn, BUT clean ! Basic hot pot with coffee and tea options. Room was good size, bed ok. Old furniture but everything was very clean and well maintained. Breakfast was a 'challenge". Even though it was part of reservation, you had to pick a time when you checked in. seating for 1 person wasn't possible either day and they said i could just "stand by" and wait for open table. so opted to not use their breakfast. hard to justify having a paid breakfast but no where to get or eat it. this was secondary impact of COVID protocols and not their normal way of business - but travelers should be aware of it, especially solo travelers. nothing was done to make an accommodation (eat in the patio or lobby area with plenty of table and chairs) - but that was probably due to a very new and inexperienced staff. Bathroom was clean, well appointed but old. No shower curtain so there was water everywhere - not their fault but design flaw. Lighting in room was ok - hard to use desk, so i ended up sitting on bed to use natural light from window. Nothing "bad" but nothing over the top "awesome" either. It is clean and basic. Very expensive for a basic motel 6 property, with a breakfast you can't partake of. You are 5 mins walk to the ferry - which was why i picked this location. The views and walks are pretty breath taking. Plenty of places in town to eat but make your reservation for dinner (WEEKS) before you travel. there is no "walk-in" during covid -- even though window signs say it is okay - it just doesn't work.
