Heading out of Cardiff city centre toward Canton, past the Millennium Stadium and then along Tudor Street, the multicultural local population ensures you can pick up all manner of international cuisine in both grocery and takeaway form. When it comes to the latter, however, it's easier to find oriental takeout than anywhere dealing in the humble British art of fish and chips. Riverside Fish Bar is a happy exception, keeping things cheap and cheerful over a counter almost right on the street front. The chips are cooked as they should be, although granted they're not consistently great enough to warrant a special trip. If you're doing anything other than casually passing or, more likely, meandering back from an evening on the sauce in town, take the time to wander up Cowbridge Road toward The Codfather instead.
