I drove up to the top but couldn't see the view due to the weather. But, I could tell, on a nice day, it would be amazing. Lots of history here. Enjoy!

Call Your Bluff…read more Protected National Monument site that's over 3k-acres and is situated west of Gering, Nebraska. We visited here almost eight years ago on our epic road trip across the US, and I can't believe I forgot to review this place. The Good: *The bluff is an important landmark on the Oregon Trail and there's an Oregon Trail Museum at the base of the bluff. *There's a windy 1.6-mile drive up the Summit Rd to get to the top of Scotts Bluff. There were quite a few cars (the park draws in 100k visitors a year) in front of us, if I remember correctly. But I don't think it took that long to get to the top, because even if it did there some superb views along the way up. *Leashed pets are OK on trails *Free! The Meh: *Only four miles of hikable trails The Ugly: *I wish we had more time to explore and hike the trails, but we had a schedule to keep. Next time, Gadget! Conclusion: Great park that's worth a 1hr detour if you're headed along on this stretch of 80.

Once you hit the dirt trail you're actually on the original trail and the wagon ruts are still visible. Usually on weekends there are people talking about pioneer life on the Oregon Trail. Can you imagine how hard that must have been for the pioneers? We didn't plan this stop and just heard about it the night before. Highly recommend!

The German fella did a fine job but I am not bilingual (I wish I was because that is amazing) but I owe it to my yelpers to give a first review in English of this awesome visit last month! I certainly may want to review update sometime, but this need to be shared to all! I have waited posting many photos deciding if they belong under "Oregon Trail, Scotts Bluff National Monument" or even a yelp addition of the "visitor center" as well which is more or less a free little history museum in itself. Many new photos to share, is there a limit? Where to place them?! Overall briefly (if I can even be brief - especially HERE - with a mini review here & later update), you park at the visitor center for free. To arrive, you DRIVE along road today named "Oregon Trail" and "Old Oregon Trail." I posted a road sign of this name and my screen shot map photo navigating there via cell map! Exiting your car you can walk in front of the visitor center, all outside, and onto a half mile long piece remaining of the real historical Oregon Trail. AMAZING. Mother Nature surrounds you. You turn one way and in the distance see flat lands for miles. You look the other and see "Scotts Bluff Historical Monument" as well as other surrounding bluffs. I may be silly, but the dumbest questions are the unasked ones. I asked, what is a "bluff?" Well, I will spare humility to help others that don't know either.... It's not tall enough to be a MOUNTAIN, so it's a "Bluff." Cool. Simple answer to a simple question complete! There is a wagon (clearly different from our German visitor years ago holding up this review on yelp well). Today there is one uncovered wagon. I like the prior photos as well as the new additions I am delighted to add. There is a crossover of Pony Express (German mail delivery!) and Mormon Trail here at this point. So a lot of history is captured in this one little spot! There are oxen (plastic today - we can't hold wildlife captive here obviously), wagon, and a pulley for supplies is also displayed! I hope to write an updated review soon. It's still overwhelming amazement and I feel needs to be broken down to capture all the small pieces right here! 5000 characters or less... Oh my! Thank gosh words cannot describe much of this! Lovely! Priceless history lesson. Photos (18 alone from our German reviewer friend here) help truly tell the review equal or better than words alone could sometimes provide!!!

Unfortunately this particular location has dropped the ball by shamming a mother for breastfeeding her baby in a public setting. Not only was she shammed, but she was then told to leave the area she was currently breastfeeding, and then treated with disrespect and rudeness when she reached out to higher authorities. Not only is this not an example of Christian like behavior, but it also goes against this companies very own mission statement of building a healthy body, AND breaks federal law. I highly support staff members going through an intensive training dedicated to upholding federal standards that effect their members, as well as replacing the CEO who is incapable of supporting federal laws.

Visually, this is an incredibly beautiful place. And it was once a very quiet/peaceful/relatively…read morenatural one too. That's until the geniuses at Nebraska Game & Parks decide to install an ugly, noisy, multi-station "shooting range" in this once-beautiful park. Now, most times it's pleasant enough for visitors to want to find a little peace and quiet and enjoy some nature, you'll be treated instead to loud volleys of gunfire echoing through the the Wildcat Hills (including nearby public land parcels Buffalo Creek and Montz Ranch). The Nature Center was expanded at the same time as the "shooting complex" was installed, which is fortunate, since that is likely the only place you'll see much "nature" amidst the noise. The "shooting range" is only several hundred *feet* from the Nature Center, so have fun enjoying the "natural" noise as you take in the views. Big ugly berms now block views to the south from the park road...presumably to prevent stray gunfire from hitting vehicles. Thinking of enjoying some nice peaceful camping? The prevailing winds and sound-amplifying effects of the Hills means you'll be "enjoying" the gunfire from any of the park's designated camping areas. So put on some noise-canceling headphones, maybe with an app that plays some "natural" sounds, and enjoy your visit. Or keep driving and spend your tourist dollars on a place where the interests of a few (but very noisy) "shooters" don't outweigh those of the many.
