If you want to spend most of your time in Beavers Bend State Park, it is not too convenient for that. And, don't expect to get a cell phone signal. Wifi is not dependable. So, GREAT place if you want to be "removed," and very pretty. Since there isn't much information, I'll say: there are 8 cabins and they are down an 8-mile long road (Game Preserve Road/Sherman Road) from a point that is about 12 miles north of the state parks. There is a swimming pool, and there is a boat ramp very close by. The "lakefront" is a stretch. You can walk down a trail (gets very steep at the end) to the cove of the lake.

We snagged a room here to get us the majority of the way from Dallas to Eagle Rock Loop (Arkansas) so we could knock it out without a 4.5h drive leading up to it. I am so glad we did! Upon arrival at around 8PM, we had to call so the inn keeper could let us in, then we got a tour, and were shown upstairs to our room: #4. The floors are creaky with charm, but there's a private bathroom in the room, window-unit AC, and a large and powerful space heater (we were toasty on a freezing night). So much personality and personal touches here. A modest, but complimentary, selection of snacks and drinks are available in various places, too! All in all, I'd definitely come back and stay a little longer!

Upon arrival we received a warm greeting from the gentleman at the front desk and he showed us to our ground floor room. The decor in the hallway set the tone (rather rundown but featuring displays about the area and history of the hotel), one of the rooms we passed was missing a door and had a bed sheet covering the door way, perhaps it was being rehabbed? Our room was clean, sheets were nice and the beds were comfy but the room didn't feel finished (bare concrete floor, exposed pipes and electric lines from the room above running along the ceiling). The bathroom was clean but tiny and a bit rundown. After seeing the room for the first time, I'm certain that had I been with my wife, she would have insisted we get back in the car and keep driving. The hotel restaurant is closed for business (not sure if that is temporary or permanent) but that was definitely the only attractive room in the building. The whole marketing emphasis of this place is that it's "historic" but it's only from the 1940's, my home is much older and I've never thought of it as historic. Frankly, it felt like the whole "historic" thing was just an excuse for being so shabby. All in all I'd say that whoever is in charge of cleaning is doing a wonderful job but the whole place is rundown and desperately in need of restoration. You will be hard pressed to find somewhere decent to eat in town. We received a couple of recommendations for "El Rancho Mexican Grill" and it was pretty awful.

There is so much space and with the huge covered porch we never felt like we were on top of each other, even with 20 people. It was very clean and the owners were super nice and helpful. You feel completely secluded surrounded by all of the trees but there is a swimming area close by and it's just minutes from town with plenty of restaurants and entertainment.

They say the drain and clean it after every guest. Awesome. Management very easy to reach via messaging and with prompt responses. We would stay with this company again. Cons: lots of rules. Like so many rules and there were all these fines listed if you break them. Very scary. My husband didn't want to book the cabin because of all the rules.

The septic tank had a water hose spray in the back of the house where the hot tub, playground, camp fire, and patio with fire pit were located. It sprayed sewage several times while we were cooking out, eating, and enjoying ourselves on the accommodations this cabin advertises. It smelled horrible!!! We called the company and were told, "it's supposed to spray in order to release itself!" What?!?! Then be transparent on your listing because if that was listed, we would NOT have brought you our business. They sent a sewage truck the 3rd day of our stay and that solved the problem. The sewage guys said if it was straying as frequently as it was, it was over flowing!! It's evident they do NOT invest the money they make in maintaining the cabin. The bar stools were broken and loose. Maintenance confirmed they were missing screws. The TV in the upstairs bedroom did not work. The pool sticks were missing tips. Obviously, they don't maintain their sewage system. They knew we would be leaving a bad review as we constantly complained as no one wants to smell sewage while trying to enjoy the scenery. Now we are being accused of 8 missing bath towels. Who wants to take bath towels that everyone and their family has used! They are not even worth taking!! Rather than being greedy, invest in what you promote so your guest can experience what they PAY for!!!!

The only other real con for me is that these are outdoor rooms - but there are no indoor hotels anywhere near this price point in the area. To be fair, every place has had good service for me so far, and no exception - the Ozark desklady happily gave me a second key to unlock the room that had my first key locked inside (I was really tired last night, sorry!). Rooms are very well maintained and kept clean. No loiterers outside, unlike other hotels on this vacation, and no smoking anywhere. This all shows, and it's why we're at the top. What I'd like to see for 5 stars: quieter room A/Cs, slightly softer beds, room lights a little less obnoxiously bright (no lamps, it's just a few overheads - all or nothing it feels like). It's close. A good choice for Mena travelers.
