All of us were delightfully surprised by the food and the overall experience. They had picnic tables on the patio and plenty of tables/booths inside + a bright large enclosed room beside the patio. Service was warm and friendly, who was attentive to my son and my family. She recommended the burger. They patty was grounded in house and seasoned perfectly and you can choose the fries, salad or daily soup as a side. You can also upgrade to poutine or onion rings (which looked good from a nearby table). Spring salad was well presented and fresh. Prices were higher than comparative restaurants in Toronto (eg Poutine is $15) but it feels like everything in Muskoka is pricier! A gem in Gravenhurst, I would recommend to stop by on your way in/out of Muskoka! It's also right across the street from Sawdust Brewery if you fancy a brew before or after!

Decided to have dinner at The Oar and wow, easily one of the best dining experiences we've ever had. My wife had the duck confit, I had the oven roasted chicken stuffed with sun-dried tomatoes and goat cheese. Lime margarita and Riesling to drink. Unbelievable flavour, excellent service, just a joy all around. We'll be back!

The owner was quite busy running around, serving people, grabbing drinks from the bar, taking orders, cleaning tables & bringing out food. It would have been nice if he had a waitress to cover the customers who were seated instead of him trying to do everything. He would make us fish & chips with halibut even though it was not on the menu. The order included soup or salad so my husband got the house salad with dressing & I got the bacon potatoe soup. Both were a good size portion and I really enjoyed my soup! The orders came with 2 large crispy & very hot portions of halibut and fries. We probably could have shared an order but we didn't know how big they were. Excellent dinner and fixed our cravings for this. Was so hungry I slathered the tartar sauce on & was digging in so fast... so tasty & almost forgot to take photos. I will come back next time so try their Greek food...

I loved my experience in coming here!…read more The space was lovely, really old school vibe. They had a small bar inside, with seating and a beautiful patio outside. Its in the back of a lane, so its not off the street. Yet, Bracebridge is on the small side so, its pretty easy to find. I believe they also play some local bands. I'd say more about the bathroom being small and them having an ecclectic collection of photos and the like. Yet I do not fully recall all about the ins and outs. Its kinda vague for me. I find its always nice to look at that kinda thing. Makes me have an appreciation for not being the only Collector of the odd. The person that was working the day we went, absolutely phenomenal. He was on the cute side, super friendly and accomodating. I ordered the plant based burger with their in season, warmed beet and chard salad, yet what appeared on my dish was not plant based. I'm not entirely fussy about the juices of the beef or anything. However when I asked him about it, he promptly was willing to have the whole dish redone. He seemed rather appaled that he had made a mistake like that, given he was plant based himself. Perhaps it was me not being assertive enough, or perhaps something was missed when the order was taken, either way immediate action was taken to quickly rectify the situation. And it was awesome! This to me, bespeaks of going above and beyond, which is something I resonate strongly with because I am that type of way myself. Would definitely return.

She is a local Realtor whom we done business with for years. My brother and his wife arrived first and was a bit early and the owner greeted them warmly and as he knew there were 3more of us coming without even being asked he asked a gentleman to move over one seat and brought over a couple of others stools so by the time I arrived I had a great seat at the bar waiting for me. Now for the Bar Tender....once again she was exceedingly warm and friendly and was delighted to tell us about the house drinks. I decided to ask it they had Margueritas as they weren't on the drink menu. She then carefully went over the different types of Tequila I could choose from which included Patron my personal favourite. She then created the best Margarita Ive ever had. My brother and his wife had Gin and Tonics created with the same care and flair as were the Virgin Ceasars ordered by our friends. We then were moved to our table and were warmly welcomed by our charming Kiwi waitress who had a wonderful sense of humour and provided terrific attentive service throughout our meal. Now for the food...I chose the Mulligatawny soup which was delicious and the Prime Rib which came with roast potatoes perfect Yorkshire pudding and a medley of beautifully cooked fresh vegetables which even included parsnips which as a transplanted Brit I thought was a creative touch... even the red wine gravy was spot on. My sister in law had The Blackened Mahi Mahi out friends both had the chicken supreme and my brother the seafood casserole. Each of these dishes was prepared with great care were creatively garnished and had generous portions... none of those tiny haute cuisine portions here.... We left stuffed but not before sampling their creme brulet which was also perfect. While outside after dinner I encountered the kitchen staff and they were equally friendly and interesting and we shared our passion for great food. Both my brother and I share a passion for great food and are no strangers to the kitchen. When guests come to our family cottage they are always delighted with our fare but once in awhile its nice to get away and let someone else do the work. Often Im disappointed when my dinner arrives has skimpy portions and I sit there thinking I could have made it better myself... theres none of that here! At the end of the day it comes down from the top as wise owners appreciate their staff and while setting high standards ensure that each staff member is treated fairly and with respect. It was apparent that each of the staff we met were happy to work there in this warm collegial environment. The final touch was that as I couldn't eat all my main course I asked our server if I could take it to go. Rather than simply drop a takeout container on the table she took it in the back packaged it up and returned it as we were leaving... we were sent off with the same warmth as when we were greeted and left feeling we had made some new friends... we can't wait to go back!....Crisco

Topped with fluffy croutons, tender crumbled bacon bits, and Parmesan cheese slivers, it's a simple and classic take on the starter. The prime rib ($44) was surprisingly large for 8oz covered in a well-seasoned crust that was fairly salty, so much so that I wish the restaurant left their gravy (not au jus as the menu describes) on the side. At least there was plenty of horseradish to counteract the saltiness. The buttery mashed potatoes seem to have chunks of the spuds added into the mash giving the side a nice contrast. On the other hand, the asparagus became mush as it's served under the meat, and the Yorkshire pudding was airy but dry. I guess you can't win them all. The Old Station House doesn't take reservations, but fair-weather months offers additional seating along their wrap around porch along with their rustic dining room. Still, I'd recommend visiting early (or much later) to avoid disappointment, especially if you're in the mood for prime rib that's subject to availability.

We were greeted at the front by the hostess and seated by our waiter. The patio set up was stunning and since it was snowing outside the fireplace warmed up the space. We came in at about 4pm which was on the tail end of lunch but beginning of dinner, so we were able to order from the dinner menu. We ordered the prime rib sandwich with lobster bisque soup, Caesar salad and miso glazed bone marrow. We were very disappointed when the bone marrow came out, we had thought it would be hot and easily spreadable but we were sadly mistaken. It was topped with a shrimp ceviche, caviar and micro greens. I felt the dish was two separate items smashed into one - the bone marrow was cold and chunky, tasting like you were eating chunks of fat mixed with the shrimp. We were interested in the Caesar salad because the waiter mentioned it was popular dish - but when this all came out, it looked & tasted like a regular salad. The prime rib sandwich wasn't anything spectacular and the lobster bisque tasted watered down. We finished off our meal with a London fog cream brulee which was delicious and a pistachio cheesecake. Overall we weren't fans of the food but we fell in love with the stunning decor & atmosphere.
