On June 11, 2021 I signed a contract with the owner Daniel Dawkins, to do work at my place of…read morebusiness. I paid him a deposit of $3,250 as stated in the contract. Daniel was supposed to drop off insurance and contractor forms to the Department of buildings on a specified day however he didn't do so. When I contacted him and asked him if he had dropped off the forms he said no and gave nothing but excuses. Fast forward to a month later 7-6-21 he still had not turned in the documents. I questioned him again about the documents on 7-6-21 and he stated that he was out of town but that he had all the documents together on his desk ready to turn in. Even at this point he still didn't turn in any documents. He continued to give me excuse after excuse. Fast forward a month later and now the city has reached out to me asking me for the contractor form and his proof of Licensure as well as insurances. Now I reach out to Daniel again and this time his lies start to get even bigger than before. He tells me that he was Audited and that it took 2 weeks and he's waiting on them to complete everything so he could renew his policy. Now let me remind you that on July 6, 2021 that he told me he had everything on his desk ready to turn in and that he was going to turn it in. This means that on July 6, 2021 he was lying. At this point I began to feel taken advantage of and my business partner tells me to terminate Daniel. I then have another conversation with him letting him know that my business partner wants to terminate his services. At that point he tells me that he was at the Department Of Buildings, which he was but then he tells me their was another problem with one of my forms and that he wasn't the actual hold up. Well guess what the form that he was referring to was the contractors form that he needed to fill out and get notarized and also had to let the owner of the building sign and notarize it however the owner wasn't going to sign and notarize a blank contractors form so again this was a matter of everyone waiting on Daniel to do his job. While he's at the DOB they also tell him that his insurance is incorrect. SMH at this pint because he knows better and I gave him forms showing exactly how his documents were supposed to be endorsed. At this point I'm outraged and now my business partner wants to have a meeting with Daniel because he's outraged to. We set up a meeting however Daniel does not show up to the meeting, he texted me the day of maybe around 130pm that he did not catch his morning flight and would not be able to make the meeting with myself and my business partner, how convenient. Now at this point I see him maybe a day later and he says he's gonna drop everything off on Friday. Now Friday comes and again he didn't drop off anything to the DOB. I reach out to him that Friday and he didn't answer. My assistant also reaches out to him and again no response. So now Monday comes and I'm infuriated because we called texted and left voicemails and didn't get any response. I call him on Monday and he goes oh I was going to call you, he then states that he was leaving his office at 2pm to go drop off the forms to DOB. I told him to let me know when he dropped it off so that I could email the plan examiner. I didn't hear from him so I began to call his phone but I got no Answer. I called multiple times and got no answer. It was at that point I had, had enough. This was beyond unprofessional. I terminated his services through email, text and voicemail. At that point he responds in might I add an unprofessional way. He tells me, he left his phone in the office but he did drop the documents off but at this point I did not want to do anymore business with his company. He sent Several messages going back and forth with me placing blame everywhere but on himself. He never once apologized but he did state that he would return my money. However, he was terminated on August 23, 2021 and today is September 2, 2021 and I still haven't received my money back. He went as far as to text me and ask me where I wanted my check sent to and I told him that I didn't want it be mailed that I would like it dropped off to my place of business and at that point he did not respond. I have not heard back from him and at this point I will be suing him for the return of my deposit. This is the most unprofessional company that I have ever dealt with. He gave me the run around week after week. Everything that I've seen on here from other people making complaints sounds pretty accurate to me because he did the same thing to me. I will also be putting other complaints in with the state against this company. He may have good reviews on houzz.com but trust me do not do business with this company. My Landlord even questioned me about the contractor and then stated that Daniel use to have a office down the street from him in Harrison NY and that he Found Daniel to be very unorganized. They did a massive add-on and renovation to my home. Eric Abraham was my point person for the…read moreproject. Eric did EVERYTHING, from picking out fixtures and moldings with my wife, to working hands out with subcontrators and city officials. Eric is totally honest and transparent. In some cases he would talk us out of an expensive option for one thing or another, telling us it was something that wouldn't have added much value to our house, and we really wouldn't get as much benefit as we thought we would. And in only two cases did the opposite thing happen, and I just WISH we had listened to Eric; We put a nice island in the middle of our kitchen, but the design didn't call for a sink. Eric respectfully recommended we add one; he said it WOULD add to the value of the house, buyers would expect to see it when we sold the house, and we would end up using it. And he said it'd be worth it. He didn't harp on it though. We declined to add the sink. And we've always regretted it since. He was right. Same goes for the bathtub in our master bedroom, where Eric once again respectfully recommended that we add jacuzzi jets, again for the same set of reasons that we should have added the sink the the kitchen island. Again, he didn't harp on it. Well, we declined again, and of course he had been right, again, and of course we've always regretted it since. All of that said, our renovation was a SMASHING success. Comstock's work was AMAZING. And not only that, but they said it would be take six months, and sure enough, it was SIX MONTHS. And they had every excuse for it to take longer, because during excavation they found the remains of an old oil tank. Of course no one knew this has been there, and it had to be properly remediated, etc. It's the kind of thing you dread, that you worry could add thousands upon thousands to the price of your job, and potentially take weeks, of not months to deal with. Nope. Comstock knew exactly who to call, and how best to deal with it. And it cost a small fraction of what I feared it might cost. My home has huge curb appeal now. The neighbors three houses down loved the work being done, and got to know Eric during the renovation. And they ended up using Comstock for their renovation, which was a job twice the size of mine! And their house looks awesome. I couldn't offer a better recommendation !!!
