I'm current head coach of the Senior National Karate team and it is my pleasure to…read more write this letter of reference for Mr Don Ritter. I have known Don for the past 20 years. I first met him at the 1999 Canadian National Championships while we were both competing for a position on the National Karate team. His long standing competitive career was highlighted by 14 national gold medals (Karate Canada) representing Canada in 5 WKF World Championship as well as The Pan AM Games and numerous Pan-American Championships. Don Ritter retired from competition in 2005 and following his retirement he continued to support Karate Canada as an active Ontario Provincial Coach for a number of years. As coach he was well respected by all competitors and the coaching staff. As the head coach of Karate Canada, I had the pleasure of working with Don in 2014 where he was assistant coach while preparing our team to compete in Salzburg, Austria. He helped implement a preparatory training program for athletes pre-competition, during competition and post competition. His knowledge, patience and enthusiasm for karate and for coaching helped to create a positive atmosphere where athletes felt supported, well prepared and confident. As for Don's Character he is a generous individual, attentive to the needs of others and he has a strong sense of fairness and equality in dealing with people. I have no hesitation in recommending Don as an ideal candidate for any role in public and community youth athletic development. Please feel free to contact me if you have further questions. You can contact me via email at: nassim.varasteh@karatecanada.org Sincerely, Nassim Varasteh Karate Canada National Team Head Coach

I trained with Don Ritter back in 2011 while I lived in Toronto. Because of my work I have to move…read morearound quite a bit, so, I've trained with many coaches. I was a green belt; one night training Mr. Ritter observed me in kumite, he pulled me aside and something I will never forget. He said, " I think you can take the number 3 spot in Canada". That night I went home and while meditating, I broke out in tears out of happiness. In my life, I've never had someone believe in me. This motivated to be even better. I tell this story all the time, the power of someone believing you is very special. Even when I tell this story, I have to fight back my tears. Thank you Mr. Ritter, you truly are a great leader, coach and person. Though I only trained a very short time with you, I think of you often and want you to know that I learned a lot about leadership because of you. I am a better person because of you. One day when I'm back in Canada, I hope to find you again.

Great gym! Most instructors are really good, friendly and really push you. Nice facilities. Smaller…read morethan the Davisville location. Good location right on the Danforth means I stuff my face with Greek food after an intense work out. Some days are super hard and others aren't. Depends on who's teaching. Usually an intense workout. A great Muay Thai gym! One of my favourites. I also love Krudar.

Today was my second class. The studio was open earlier than last time, so people could arrive early…read moreand just chill, or do their own warmup before class. The one thing that I LOVED today compared to last time was that their central air conditioning was on. Previously, the AC wasn't turned on and the space quickly turned into a sweat box, so today was much, much better. Again, Andrew led the warm up and conditioning section, and again, it wasn't an overly complicated work out. Seemed less intense than last time however. One thing that I noticed today compared to last time, was that they don't have a lot of dumbbells/kettlebells for the conditioning section. I feel like they should stock more 10, 12.5 and 15 lb weights since those seem to be the most popular. The ones left over always seem to be either 5 lb or 25 lb; as a result, I have to go to the 5 lb one (which is way too light for me) since 25 lb is too heavy. Levi wasn't here today, so Erin taught the beginners (3 of us today, a good sized group). Erin was friendly, and a great teacher (she also does a good Gollum impression watch out). As a studio, they also maintain a good standard of hygiene - immediately after someone cut their foot and blood got on the mats, Erin immediately helped him clean up and bandage his foot. Afterwards, she made sure the mats were properly disinfected before resuming teaching.

I've been training with Albert Phan for a year and a half now, and to say it has been life changing…read moremay sound trite or hyperbolic but is true. When I first started working with Albert, I noticed he was different from other typical trainers: - He is extremely knowledgeableable and analytical. He really listens and watches, figuring out how I move and where my biggest needs are. Albert reminds me of a physiotherapist who is attuned to not just how to build muscle, but also how muscles should move and fire. And for someone who hasn't really gone to the gym before, had constant back pains and a disproportionate body, this is key. - He isn't just going through the motions. Albert clearly puts a lot of thought and work into the customized plans he develops. He also created spreadsheets and trackers that not only provide me with my entire training plan, but also laid out my targets. For someone who likes to assess and see progress-to-goals, this is great. - He is holistic in his approach. Albert doesn't just focus on the muscle building aspect of training, but also on the importance of nutrition and sleep. He developed a nutrition plan for me and is constantly holding me accountable to it. Over the last year and a half of working with Albert, the changes have truly been significant: - I feel better. I'm stronger and move better, with years-long backpains gone. The routine and discipline have also helped me focus-in other aspects of my life. - I look better. I obviously could see the fat loss and muscle development as I was training with Albert. But a year in, many people around me have as well. In my recent visit home, everyone I met commented on how great I looked and asked me what my 'secret' was. - I am better. Every since I was a teenager, I'd get regular blood tests to monitor different aspects of my health. Even as recently as last year, my doctors were worried about my blood pressure and fatty liver, to the point that I was going to be put on meds. But because of the holistic plan Albert developed and the work we've put in, my blood pressure is great and I don't have a fatty liver anymore. I don't have to go on meds anymore, and my doctors are really happy and have encouraged me to continue doing what I'm doing. Albert obviously takes pride in what he does, exuding a professionalism I rarely see in trainers. He clearly views this as a craft and a calling, and I am better for it. I highly recommend Albert.

The girl with the curly hair must've taken this personally because she had a terrible attitude and was super dismissive of what I said. I'm sorry, how is this inconvenience for ME inconveniencing YOU? Reviewing the other feedback tells me that POC are going to encounter some sort of attitude at this location. Also this place smells nasty. The paper towel/cleaning solution is empty in most areas. The women's change room is gross as well and smells weird but that wont stop multiple women from sitting down on the benches fully naked. I don't even wanna know what the sauna is like, yuck. Also RUDE. Also the layout is unnecessarily awkward with rowing machines randomly in high traffic hallways. And I can still smell the BO funk on my coat after being there for only 1 hr. Hone fitness is up the street maybe you'll have better luck there.
