I passed Primal MMA on my way home from work one day and at that moment I decided I needed BJJ back in my life.

I first met him at the 1999 Canadian National Championships while we were both competing for a position on the National Karate team. His long standing competitive career was highlighted by 14 national gold medals (Karate Canada) representing Canada in 5 WKF World Championship as well as The Pan AM Games and numerous Pan-American Championships. Don Ritter retired from competition in 2005 and following his retirement he continued to support Karate Canada as an active Ontario Provincial Coach for a number of years. As coach he was well respected by all competitors and the coaching staff. As the head coach of Karate Canada, I had the pleasure of working with Don in 2014 where he was assistant coach while preparing our team to compete in Salzburg, Austria. He helped implement a preparatory training program for athletes pre-competition, during competition and post competition. His knowledge, patience and enthusiasm for karate and for coaching helped to create a positive atmosphere where athletes felt supported, well prepared and confident. As for Don's Character he is a generous individual, attentive to the needs of others and he has a strong sense of fairness and equality in dealing with people. I have no hesitation in recommending Don as an ideal candidate for any role in public and community youth athletic development. Please feel free to contact me if you have further questions. I was a green belt; one night training Mr. Ritter observed me in kumite, he pulled me aside and something I will never forget. He said, " I think you can take the number 3 spot in Canada". That night I went home and while meditating, I broke out in tears out of happiness. In my life, I've never had someone believe in me. This motivated to be even better. I tell this story all the time, the power of someone believing you is very special. Even when I tell this story, I have to fight back my tears. Thank you Mr. Ritter, you truly are a great leader, coach and person. Though I only trained a very short time with you, I think of you often and want you to know that I learned a lot about leadership because of you. I am a better person because of you. One day when I'm back in Canada, I hope to find you again.

Although I wasn't interested in the judo and jujitsu they are primarily known for, Bobby, the owner, accommodated my interest in getting fit and I ended up taking Dana's Strength and Conditioning classes and got hooked. I renewed my membership and then continued with private training sessions. I am the strongest I have ever been and feel and look pretty great (never thought I'd feel like this as a woman in my 40s with three kids). Dana is motivating and a fantastic teacher and trainer - she fine tunes and gives great prompts to assist with form and make sure the exercises are done properly and safely. In addition, my kids have trialed the jujitsu and gymnastics classes and loved them but couldn't continue due to their other activities, but from what I observed, Bobby is a knowledgeable, patient, and fun teacher. I highly recommend you or your kids try this dojo out for three months. Would be surprised if you or they aren't hooked like I was. elenaele

Good location right on the Danforth means I stuff my face with Greek food after an intense work out. Some days are super hard and others aren't. Depends on who's teaching. Usually an intense workout. The one thing that I LOVED today compared to last time was that their central air conditioning was on. Previously, the AC wasn't turned on and the space quickly turned into a sweat box, so today was much, much better. Again, Andrew led the warm up and conditioning section, and again, it wasn't an overly complicated work out. Seemed less intense than last time however. One thing that I noticed today compared to last time, was that they don't have a lot of dumbbells/kettlebells for the conditioning section. I feel like they should stock more 10, 12.5 and 15 lb weights since those seem to be the most popular. The ones left over always seem to be either 5 lb or 25 lb; as a result, I have to go to the 5 lb one (which is way too light for me) since 25 lb is too heavy. Levi wasn't here today, so Erin taught the beginners (3 of us today, a good sized group). Erin was friendly, and a great teacher (she also does a good Gollum impression watch out). As a studio, they also maintain a good standard of hygiene - immediately after someone cut their foot and blood got on the mats, Erin immediately helped him clean up and bandage his foot. Afterwards, she made sure the mats were properly disinfected before resuming teaching.
