I was lucky enough to spend a few months taking weekly lessons here early in 2017, and I've got to…read moresay, it's an outstanding place to ride, board, or have your horse trained. Primarily a saddle seat barn, they've got a strong lesson program that's great for kids and adults alike. Most of their horses are American Saddlebreds, but they've got some Morgans, at least one cute Arab, a few ponies, and a quarter horse who I rode a few times for lessons. Lillian & Katie have a strong sense of what you need next, and I found that in listening to them closely and following their instructions I was able to gain skills and regain strength in the saddle post-baby, all of which was of great benefit to me. Because they're great at what they do, and they have talented horses and riders on their team, they go to a lot of shows. They went to Devon last year, as well as quite a few other local and regional shows, so if you're interested in riding saddleseat and competing, this is probably the best barn in the area for you. I found their clients to be friendly, and the atmosphere is relaxed enough that I would breathe a sigh of happy relief every time I walked in, no snooty barn drama to be found here... at least not in my experience! I was side lined with a back injury for a few months after taking lessons here, and I'm thinking of going in a different direction with my riding (dressage), but I would highly recommend Rocking Horse to anyone and everyone with a passion for horses, particularly if you want to learn to ride saddle seat or if you'd like your child to start in a lesson program.

The barn manager, Julie, wouldn't even talk to her and let her know. She sent me a text letting me know my daughter was no longer in the program. Very heartbreaking for my daughter. This is a great place to learn to ride!…read more I started lessons at Reevedale with Katie a few weeks ago, after buying their Groupon deal. Groupon, as we all know, is a little bit touch and go, both for business owners and for consumers. There were a bunch of barns offering Groupons, I picked Reevedale because they offer both hunt and saddle seat. I rode Western a little as a kid, and have always been curious about other disciplines; I doubt I'm brave enough to get into eventing, which I'd always daydreamed about, but I know I'd love to ride gaited horses! I was a little nervous that the barn might be snobby, as can sometimes be the case, but I decided to let go of the nerves, check my ego at the door, and get in there and learn to ride. In the end, it's all about your expectations. Ultimately, I was looking for a good atmosphere, where my incompetence on horseback could be kindly corrected by both horse and instructor, with the eventual hope of being able to properly communicate with a horse while on it's back. What I found at Reevedale was a warm, friendly environment. The horses are happy, well-trained and well-treated, and they're kind enough to put up with me as I learn to use my weight, legs and hands to ask them to do different things. Katie doesn't yell, she speaks up and gives clear instruction when she sees you slipping out of form, something even a seasoned rider will do when they're tired, or out of shape, and something that a beginner like me is going to do in an attempt to keep my balance! She looks out for me, keeps me safe and upright, and lets me know when I should move my legs up, or back, or when it looks like I'm ready to try something new. They've got an indoor area, so this doesn't have to be a spring-time only hobby for me, which is great because I need a reason to get out and be active in the winter time! In short, this is a place that I could see myself getting some really valuable instruction, and memorable equine face time! If you're looking to get into equestrian sports, or if you'd like to find a nice place to send your kids to learn, I highly recommend Reevedale Farm!
