This is a spot to cool down in a very hot place. The ice cream is out of this world! I had the pistachio gelato. The scoops were unearthly large! You will not be disappointed! The flavor and texture matched the size of the scoops. Plain and simple, this is some of the better ice cream I've ever had! Service couldn't have been better. Friendly staff, and like I said...the "scoopology" here is off the charts. They have PhDs in that science! Having frequented the flagship store in Savannah Georgia I was so excited to see this in Key West! I knew it was going to be good and it was! The bear claws are second to none. I also wanted to try the dark chocolate macadamia stacks and they did not disappoint! I love watching them, make the delicacies by hand as you walk in and they even offer samples of the praline and other signature items. Wednesday December 3rd attending a wedding for my son in Florida and walked into the River Street Sweets in Key West. We were so excited to see the store there as I went to college in Savannah and always LOVED the smell, free sample, and amazing treats. There were three staff workers not ONE said hello, greeted me, or offered a FREE praline sample. We walked thru and around the entire store and right out the door! First time ever I did not buy anything and may not purchase anything online this holiday season either. What a disappointment. read more

$13.33 for two pecan milk chocolate turtles and they had virtually no flavor. The pecans weren't toasted and I could barely taste the chocolate. Boring. The ongoing pandemic has definitely taken a toll on a lot of businesses and public places since a consumer's mindset to buy anything outside of essentials or to visit a public place like a park or beach, has crippled down significantly. Now by living with what has become the new normal, it is commendable on how these businesses and public places continue to remain open and cater to the general public by following the safety standards. It is now all the more important that we as customers, support these heroes during these dark hours to mankind. We stopped here just going by how inviting the entrance looked and the iconic "World Famous" tag that's attached literally to anything that you find in Keys; Here it was the "World famous Pralines". The baker/person who was at one of the counters offered a sample Praline which was just out of the world, to be honest and that even egged us to buy some more of those. The shop had a galore of desserts, sweets and candies that were even stored in large barrels, like we were in Willy Wonka's territory. Everything was sweet until this point except when he pointed out a very gender stereotypical remark when I was pulling out my wallet - "So it's always the woman deciding and the man paying huh?". We were awestruck by how proud he looked with his comment. I wanted to leave the place right away but my wife insisted that we pay for it as to why blunt a business for a dumb employee's sake. So we still paid for the pralines and were on our way out. I would have rated this place a 5 star if not for that ignorant caveman who thinks it's still the Man's world! read more

Instead of getting dessert at the restaurant we had dinner at we wanted to get gelato. We first stopped somewhere else, only they had ice cream and not gelato. We were so excited to come to River Street Sweets and see so many great selections of gelato!! (Yes, we know our gelato. We ate our gelato way through Italy.) Get a taste before you decide - we did ... and then ... we ended up getting two smalls. Peanut butter and salted caramel. We loved having them together. The staff was so nice and helpful. A super fun candy shop on the main strip through the Key. They have vintage style and modern candies, along with some handmade chocolates and ice cream in the back. They were making fresh chocolate turtles when we came in and it smelled great! We didn't end up getting anything as we didn't want it to melt in the car and we didn't want to eat it right there on the spot. The staff was busy working on cleaning and making chocolates, so we weren't greeted, but it wasn't a big deal and they did smile and nod at us as we looked. 2 stars because the service was great and the 2 gentlemen were very informative and helpful. The caramel apples were brown and mushy inside. We went here twice on our three night stay in key west. The first time because it smelled so good and we got free samples but we were too full to order anything. We made note to come back the next night to get dessert after dinner! They gave us free samples again which were amazing! We bought a turtle and pralines. The lady who helped us was amazing and really kind. I even requested one with extra pecans and she let me pick out a praline from a fresh batch. It is quite pricey but good quality and what is to be expected on Deval Street. We spent approximately nine dollars on two pieces of candy but they are delicious! Visited this candy store during my time in Key West and purchased over $70 worth of pralines. I was extremely disappointed when I tasted them and the nuts were bitter! They were definitely not fresh! I brought some back as gifts and everyone noticed and made a comment. I visit the location in Savannah a few times a year and it is amazingly fresh! The staff was very nice that's why I gave it four stars. Please make sure that the nuts are fresh before putting them in the pralines! read more
