We called multiple times during their business hours, left several voicemails, and sent text messages as requested, but no one has returned a single call or message. If this is how they treat potential customers at the very beginning of the process, it really makes you question how they would handle a major project or any problems after installation. This franchise comes across as completely irresponsible when it comes to basic communication and follow-through. I am in VA and I considered River Pools in Warsaw but instead went with Backyard Pools and Spas which I regret immensely. You can read that review under their alias, River Rock Hardscapes which is now listed as CLOSED as of July 2025. However, my neighbor chose River pools and we were scheduled to start the same week but my project was delayed two weeks so I had the pleasure of watching real professionals install a pool and work with an incredible hardscape team. When two similar projects are going at the same time it's hard not to compare and there was NO comparison in this case. I wish I would have inquired about their ability to get a pool outside of their own pool designs because the actual pool style was the reason I chose Backyard Pools and Spas. And in the end, my Latham pool had a cosmetic defect that Latham will not repair under warranty. They claim it's common to put the serial number in a prominent place on the pool. So in summary, River Pools in Warsaw, VA is top notch and stay away from Backyard Pools and Spas and Latham Pools. read more

I purchased a River Pool and spa in October 2021. The local franchise dealer River Pools of Charleston started our project in October 2022. Pool shell is sitting in our side yard with no finished plumbing and no equipment. Dealer has closed franchise and River Pools Corp. has left us high and dry with no answers as to how, and when our pool will be completed. So far, so good with River Pools! Communication on the process has been great from the beginning to today. Installation started in November and is pretty much complete now. What prompted this review was yesterday. The guys were coming to install the cover and anchors and I happened to get home and they were still there. I was surprised that two guys were working in a fairly large hole by the equipment. When I asked what they were doing, they said, "Jason thought the pipes were too high out of the ground and too far from the pad and wants a cleaner installation." I figured Jason was the project manager and asked if that was the case. No, they said, he is one of the owners. I began my search for a pool a few years prior. I had started conversation and even had a plan with another local company and suddenly communication stopped. Later, I found that my point of contact had left and there was follow up plan implemented. This was super disappointing so I began my search again. I also started exploring the option of contracting out each step as a cost saving measure and realized quickly having a turn key company was more desirable for me. I started to asked around and did online searching for a reputable company who specialized in fiberglass and saltwater pools and was very interested in tanning ledge. I found River Pools and Spas in late 2019. They were super attentive and scheduled time to come see me and talk about my goals. They designed my dream that included a waterfall and fire pit. I was impressed with their transparency and there informative website. Their videos and articles touch every question you could possible have and are absolutely a must to review. They will help you understand the true cost of pool installation and set realistic expectations. This is a very large purchase and you pay for what you get. Fast forward, April 2020 and my pool project was complete. This planning and scheduling started in December 2019 and couldn't of been more timely with the impact of COVID. We really enjoyed the luxury of my at home oasis. Where there set backs and challenges, yes! But weather is not predictable, shipment delays due to COVID and nor was my water table requiring some additional stone. None of this was River Pool and Spas fault and their communication was on point. Every time a challenge presented they did what I would expect a company to do, they communicated and did what was right to fix it instead of ignore you. I live on a very busy corner lot and has created a lot conversation on my experiences and recommendations and lead me to share my experience here. I highly recommend them! I will enjoy this pool and my added features for many, many years and couldn't be more pleased. They nailed my expectations and the look and feel I desired. This company is a joke! Everything from start to finish was a complete headache. My parents have spent $65,000 in cash, upfront, before any work was complete and now that the pool is in place it is a complete let down! The pool is over 4 inches taller in one corner than the others, the finish is already cracking after only a few weeks, and the tanning ledge is HOLLOW underneath. We have begged for the company to fix this problem and they have denied any issue, even when the electrician and cement workers have even called the company to complain. It looks like a joke! Absolutely horrible. Started our relationship with RP Nashville in April of 2021 and it is still to this day - November 4, 2022 not in working condition. The Nashville Franchise are non responsive and do not stand behind their Warranty or product. They use sub contractors who do not know what they are doing and are not held accountable for fixing what they messed up. Our pool installation was September 14, 2021 and it became apparent after the first rainfall that the drainage was not installed properly. We continue to have troubles with the heater whistling loudly when heating up. Wish I could add the video I took but it wouldn't let me. The spa jets push gravel into the spa making it unusable. Coping around pool cracks and falls into the pool and MANY more issues. We have been more than patience but continue to be ignored, put off, never called back. Don't believe the 5 star ratings- these customers have been compensated- I know this for a fact. LOOK ELSEWHERE FOR YOUR POOL. The only company to consider if you are looking for a fiberglass pool!!! The attention to detail and customer service continue to surprise me in the best way. 4 years later and happy with my selection! It seems like most of the current reviews are regarding customers feeling "abandoned" due to a recent business decision to shrink their service area. It's important discuss this when you are in your purchasing phase, and I assure you if you have major concerns, you will likely have the opportunity to speak to one of the owners. I don't fault customers for feeling this way, but would encourage you to TALK TO THEM about your concerns. River pools makes a SUPERIOR product to other manufactures out there. Even with their decision to no longer provide service (opening,closing,routine cleanings) in my area, Cody has always been available for the smallest questions. They also made sure they had alternate companies available for closing and opening so we were not left completely in the dark. Julien and his service team have always been knowledgeable and extremely professional when they come for major service and meticulously complete the work and ensure I don't have any questions. Again, while I completely understand recent frustrations regarding service, please consider this company for their products. First, let me say that we love our pool that was installed by this provider. BUT we don't like their customer service. They installed a pool for us and we had many, many issues with the placement and installation. When the pool was finally installed and they opened it, the tech told us to continue to fill it with water, which we did, and that he couldn't show us all the features until the pool was fuller. Even though it was taking forever to fill it, we monitored it until just after dark when we turned it off. Next morning, our yard was flooded and the (approx. 16k gallon) pool was less than 1/4 full because there was a leak in the PVC piping under the decking. It required sonar to find the leak under the concrete. They had to dig out the concrete and repair the pipe. The problem is, the leak filled the area around the fiberglass shell creating so much pressure that it forced water through the side of the hill where the pool was placed. Thereafter, we had a stream running down out the side of the hill and down into our yard from the pool whenever it rained. Every company rep that we spoke to refused to admit responsibility and refused to repair the damage. Their own rep said that this was definitely a problem created by the water finding the path of least resistance, and that all was needed was a pipe and a french drain that would direct the water toward the drain. River Pools refused to repair it, so we found a contractor to do it for about $5k. I'm writing this here for others because, according to their website, they publish all their reviews and have all positive reviews through their "independent" reviewer, Guild Quality. I left a very detailed review over a year ago that was never published, and the location of our pool does not show on their customer map. In January 2020 I decided to look into a backyard pool. I visited River pools in February 2020 and signed a contract in April for their "R36" pool with a scheduled start date of July 28th 2020. During this phase I was professionally assisted and counseled by Clara. This included designing, planning, measuring, placement, landscaping and more. She was great! Then River Pools handled all the permits thru Fairfax county. The company was able to start a few days earlier than planned which was fine with us. The installation crew arrived on July 20th and the pool was delivered. The crew dug the hole and set the pool in it that day for a test fit. The following day the pool was placed in the hole, filled with water and we jumped in. Over the next few weeks we had the filters, pumps, heater, auto cover and electrical installed. This was a challenging time as there was quite a bit to be coordinated and scheduled and there were quite a few items that had to be adjusted, changed and/or repaired during this time. This was the year of Covid 19 and everything backyard and pool related was in short supply and very hard to come by including contractors to do the work and weather delays and then the inspections had to be completed. I understand the River Pools staff had their hands full this summer. Some of their contractors and communication was less than perfect and some things had to be repaired. Being honestly critical I will say I wish there was better over-site by River Pools during this time. But, that being said, Grayson, Jason, Kacie, Rebecca, Brian, Julian and all the River Pools staff kept at it and made everything eventually come together very nicely. They never gave up and they solved the issues that came up. "CoverSafe" installed the Automatic Pool Cover and they were very professional and did a great job! The project took about two months from start to finish with a few more weeks of minor finishing work and set up. I love my pool and I am very satisfied with my decision to use River Pools and will hope for their success in the future. read more

When I first contacted River to obtain a quote, they responded immediately to schedule a sales pitch call. This call lasted about 45 minutes and the process was very clearly laid out to include what I needed to send them to ensure the process moved smoothly. At the conclusion of this call, I was 90% sure that I would be making a $60k+ purchase from this company. Upon receipt of several emails requesting site plans and photos from me, which was received minutes after this initial phone call, I responded with my property site plan, and scheduled another call with an employee who would discuss options and gather the necessary information to put together a proposal for two days later (Friday). During the second call, we discussed my property, the site plan, and the photos I submitted and was told that the next step would be my proposal. This is where they totally dropped the ball. On Monday, I sent an email inquiring how long it typically takes to receive a proposal as I forgot to ask this question during the phone call. The initial sales man apologized for not receiving it, included another manager in his response and stated he would check in with me the following day to ensure that I had received my proposal. The following day, there was no email, no proposal, and no phone call. I gave them another four days before checking in after still receiving nothing from them. I received a new call from a new "manager" apologizing, asking me what options I wanted in my pool (after already providing this information during the second phone call) so she could provide my immediate proposal over the phone. At this point, I'm seeing red flags all over the place. I started inquiring about the process and before I could even finish my questions, this manager began speaking over me with a plethora of excuses, people were fired, corona virus, etc. etc. And mentioned they were so busy that install times are now in October, when I had originally been told early August. It was at this point when they lost me. I was ready to spend $60k+ with this company but they are entirely too unorganized and apparently too busy to service their customers. read more

We had a pool installed in Williamsburg, VA a few years ago. The customer service at River Pools was pretty poor, but I could live with that. The real problem is the pentair equipment they install. The heat pump requires fixing at least a couple of times per year. While under warranty, we could force them to send someone out. There is only ONE company in the area that can work on the pentair equipment. Now that the warranty is expired, we can't get ANYONE to come out and service the heat pump / equipment. We are currently looking at options to have the pentair equipment taken out and replaced with something we can actually get serviced. They don't tell you about this difficulty when they are selling you the equipment. We have spent weeks not being able to use our pool because of this issue. I wish someone had warned me - so I'm warning others. Refuse to buy pentair equipment in this area. read more

Now that I have paid tens of thousands of dollars to have my pool installed they are telling me they will no longer service my area. They are cutting down their travel distance so they can save $1 million and their workers can get home earlier. This is not just normal maintenance they are talking about this is for any repairs or updating equipment that may be needed. They have abandoned us I did watch the whole video. What a waste of time! My wife and I contacted River Pools and Spas in late June 2020 about installing a new pool at our house in Lancaster County. After some delay, we were assigned to a sales person (Mike) who initially showed some interest and scheduled a Zoom meeting to discuss what we were looking for. But after the meeting on July 9 he never sent us the proposal he promised or the other information he promised. After he didn't respond to messages, I reached out directly to the office manager. We then got a response from the sales person saying that he thought he had sent the proposal, but then realized he hadn't. But then after we asked him to send the proposal he claimed to have sent, he still has not sent a proposal or anything! We sent follow-up messages asking him to send the proposal (since he supposedly had already prepared one) but got no response. Then I asked the office manager to assign us to a new sales person - no response. Three weeks later and counting, still nothing - no proposal, no follow-up, nothing. It's now been six weeks since we first contacted them, and we have nothing from them. Do yourself a favor, and don't waste your time. There are too many other pool companies out there to waste time with someone who shows so little interest in a new customer and repeatedly fails to deliver. read more
